Yes, but this is only because of Apple's sandbox restrictions. Google Now's android counterpart does everything siri does and more afaik.

Nah, Siri has the gimmicky side of things down.

I don't think you can Google Now if you need to know where to hide a body.

I'm going to go check right now.

Nope, still no answer beyond a search.

Google Nexus 4 has no carrier logo, no bloatware.

What does the material it's made of matter, though, if all you're going to do is put it in a case? And I suspect that most people buy a case for their phone if they're smart.

Only the Nexus can say that, and that rotates manufacturers every year, which is weird and not great for growth.

I use a Speck PixelSkin case on my iPhone 5 as more of a jacket when I'm out in drop-danger-zones. When I'm home, the beautifully designed aluminum exterior is in all of its naked glory. And with the advent of AppleCare+, more and more people use their iPhone's naked knowing that a drop is no longer a $650 problem. Just a short trip to the Apple Store and a small deductible away from problem-solved.

If I were to get an Android phone though, it would have to be the Nexus because I can't deal with carrier logos and useless bloatware that I can't delete. It's just weird that the Nexus isn't even a top 3 Android device and the fact that it doesn't do LTE in the US is beyond puzzling.

Looks awesome but does it tell me how many miles I walked every month? That's the feature I'm interested in. :D

Anyone else getting "Check back soon... Try again later" when trying to update their cards? All I'm seeing are glowing reviews across the net on this thing but I think they're jumping the gun a bit.

Oh, don't get me wrong.

I don't think I'm ever getting a non-Nexus android phone.

If I did, it'd be rooted and ROM'd so fast it wouldn't even be funny. I hate getting updates slow.

I did hear the Nexus 4 is beautiful, though. Something about the glass back makes it suck for dropping.

I really don't understand everyone's paranoia about Google collecting information on them.

Apple knows every time you buy a Justin Bieber song from iTunes. Worse yet, they know all of the Bieber songs you pirated with iTunes Match.

And since they have your Facebook and Twitter integrated into the OS, it's only a matter of time until they show all your friends that you're a closet Bieleber!

Getting back to the point on hand, I like the idea of Google now. Especially since it was pointed out that the location services can be turned off in the apps privacy settings. I get horrible cell reception at work, and any app trying to get data just kills my battery.

I know you're joking, but try Runkeeper for that. I just looked up my all time distance run. You can set up walking activities and get reports on that, which could be broken down to the month.

The always on location service usage in the background (even long after the app is closed) is unacceptable.

I personally find Apple making the iPhone 5 long and introducing features that have been out for a while on Android (camera panoramic for example) and calling it "innovation" unacceptable.

It's cool man, whatever makes you feel better about using an outdated mobile OS. :p

Google is the enemy of the Big Apple around these here parts. Mention Google or Android around here, prepare to see a thread in the Feedback section of how this is an Apple site and no mention of anything else should be spoken about.

Ask Google Now to text someone in your address book. Also ask it to set a reminder. etc etc etc etc etc

It doesn't appear able to call any of my contacts, play any of my songs, or write a text. I don't think Siri has to worry for now.

ahh NO...I can't set my alarm or make reminders nor open apps so Siri stays.

Maybe for you but not for me as I use Siri everyday. Besides requiring me to signup for a GMail account makes the Google Search app useless to me. Hint, I don't want a GMail account.

So you guys are saying I have two assistants now:

Siri: Old, and a little slow, she does mundance tasks such as setting reminders, alarms, sends texts

Google Now: Smart, responsive, fast, alerts me about traffic, automatically presents me with boarding pass when I'm in the airport, etc...

Yea whether we like it or not this is direct competition (and a blow) to Siri's 'intelligent' features.

Whenever an Apple fanboy complains about Google gathering user information and how intrusive it is to their lives, I always wonder:

a) what terrible, dark secrets Apple fans are hiding
B) why do you care if Google targets ads to you? Seriously, in the Information Age where everything you do leaves a digital paper trail, why does this somehow bother you?

You can create a Google account without creating a Gmail account. And you can use your current email address to create the account.

But for it to go through your e-mail to automatically create a lot of these cards doesn't it need access to your emails in a gmail account?

So...is there an easy way to synch multiple calendars onto the Google one so all of my appointments and meetings are on there? Or do I just need to duplicate entries (in the case of work email) and just switch to Google as my default calendar app for personal stuff?

Google Calendar suport multiple calendars

I love how google is making it easier and easier not to switch platforms.
And that right there is a win for Google. People may not be using Android, but people are using Google services over Apple services on their iPhones. My iPhone is basically a Google phone running iOS. Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps, Google Music, Google Now etc...

Google Calendar suport multiple calendars

Im just noticing that there is no calendar option for Google in my settings. So are you saying Google just looks at all my calendar entries on my iPhone no matter how many are on there?

Me confused...

I do like the idea of just opening the Google app to see everything I want to see in the cards (particularly flight info), but it isn't showing a meeting I have in 5 minutes...not sure I know how to get it to do that and "help" isn't really helping me with that.

Cards in google now

This is cool, you may already know this but you can set specific cards that you want to show all the time by pulling up your cards at the bottom then click on the wheel at the bottom right side, then you see a list of all the cards you can choose from, they will show on, but if you click on a specific card, lets say, Stocks, click on stocks, then you can set it to always show ON then below that click on the word Stocks, there you can set which stock you want to show on your card and since you set it to show always ON it will show this card always and the stock YOU want to see.

I think it's cool!!

It requires a Google account and that it is a non-starter for me.

True, but no matter how many calendars I can setup in Google Calendar, it's my work calendar that would actually make this app useful for me. And my employer uses Exchange, not Google. They need to either update the app to use the phone's local calendar, or provide a way for the app to connect to an Exchange server.

I agree. And once there's a way to natively connect 6 Google accounts and sync select services from each one flawlessly (without that delegation crap) then I'd might consider getting an iPhone as well.

Or at the very least move the iPad back into the primary portable device position.
