You said most hotels have wifi. I'm saying that over 90% have insufficient speeds to do anything useful except maybe stream audio. Which brings me back to my original point: this thing is useless. The Apple TV is 3x the price but has 100x the functionality. If you're content to live life in the bargain bin that's your prerogative though.

LOL at people acting like its free or they're profiting because it comes with a trial of Netflix.

well the roku is more flexible than the apple tv unless you're rocking a JB ATV2...

unless you have all apple products and use airplay.

Except in price, because the ATV is 3 times as much. And if you deduct the cost of the 3 free months of Netflix from the price of the Chromecast, the ATV is 10 times as much.

I still don't see the point of this Chromecast .. Mirrors my content from my Phone/Laptop to an HDTV, something an HDMI can do and I can use my Cell/iPad as the remote, a Jailbroken ATV has much much much more+ AirPlay if I need to mirror something

Every time that I am tempted by and android tablet (several times now) I try to remember just how disappointing the play store is. It's worked well so far.

Honestly there are some great specs on android (windows and Blackberry hardware, but APPS, and DEVELOPERS. Those are the only things that really matter. If Android or windows have the apps that you want then you have a lot of great choices, but for me iOS is the only platform that has what I want.

There are things that I would like to see in or change with Apple's iOS hardware, but for the most part, hardware is irrelevant.

Well for the hotels that do have sufficient wifi be great. I don't travel much but when I did I had no problems playing youtube clips using the provided wifi. As far as the useless comment to me I guess Apple TV is and Chromecast is as well. Why? because I have no need or want to stream media content to a tv. Except they are not, if one has a need both will provide that. So a better comment would be useless to me.

It absolutely does NOT. There is no streaming ANYTHING from ANY of your devices to this dongle. People saying otherwise have not read into it enough.

What does it do then? If it can't mirror apps then I likely won't purchase this.

Apparently there is supposed to be more support in the future? Ehhh

Where, in this particular case, since the APK's will be publicly accessible, the liklihood of using a 3rd party system like Plex to be able to push content to my tv wirelessly

The API does not push any content, just links to cloud services from where Chromecast can pull down content. I highly doubt you will be able to use Plex to watch NAS content this way.

Once again, Cromecast (push URL + pull content) != AirPlay (push content).

First gen. Nexus 7 improved in every aspect! Lighter, thinner, full HD display, NFC, great GPU, faster. Cheap as hell, what a bargain!

Are you high? What about this makes it "really bad" for the mini now? Other than a retina screen the other stuff is just spec crap that doesn't matter much in the real world. My mini is a dream. Would I like retina? I guess, but that doesn't stop me from using my mini all day long at work and home. And Android is still klunky to use and fugly. I'm not leaving the Apple ecosystem for this thing.

I'll see how chromecast goes but I already have 2 ATVs that work great. Kudos to Google for catching up a bit on Airplay but catching up is not particularly innovation.

Oh yeah, I forgot: Apple is doooomed. :(

Totally, which is why Apple is shamelessly copying Android in iOS 7.

Yeah, I dunno why you did that either. I mean what are you gonna do with the 7 you can't already do with the 10? Total waste of money, man. Shameful.

...now that I've talked you down a bit, wanna sell me your Nexus 10 for 50 bucks? :D

I will give you $55... and 3 months of free Netflix:D

On point: N7. Retina for a little over $225. Sweet. Chromecast? This is the most intriguing announcement. I haven't been on MR that long, but I can say this little item has received more unbiased enthusiasm from the MR forum than any product without :apple: on it. People appreciating tech for tech sake... cut it out. Need more trolling.

Samsung is going to steal this.

People actually buy this crappy tablets? Why, because of the price? Don't be cheap, guys!

Seriously, I haven't seen an Android tablet on my college and, well, anywhere but the shelves.

For me, this device seems to be the ONLY way that I can stream a purchased or rented movie or TV show from Google play to my TV without a hard wired connection. That is well worth $35, because many times I'll start a movie on my phone on public transportation but don't finish and want to finish watching it on TV. Or just purchase a movie from google play and watch it on TV. I don't know of any other wireless way to do this - but someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have my Nexus 7 (Tegra 3). I wish it was bigger for reading magazines but hey, it was $199. After that I have a nice leather case for it for $39.

It's perfect for streaming anime from my SMB mount.

We've been doing this for too long. You might want to leave Page 1 if you do not want to see people critical of the company to love. Now, loving a company is insane in my book.

My comment had nothing to do with being critical of Apple or "loving a company." My comment had to do with the clear reality of MacRumors being a favorite destination for Apple competitors and fans of such (trolls, astroturfers, shills, operatives, whatever term you personally prefer).

The point being (responding to the "Apple should be worried" comment): a number of comments on MacRumors raving about a competitor's device has no quantifiable reliability.
