my two TVs have netflix, if I want to watch netflix on my phone so if I want to watch netflix on my tv I do

then why I would want to use my phone and my TV for a single purpose if I can do it separately? :D

I think you need to quantify useless. Maybe for you. Maybe for me. But not useless at all.

I think you mean qualify. And I will.

I have a ps3, Xbox 360, and Apple TV. All of which do the exact same stuff this half baked piece of crap dongle will do already except they also do way more. The chrome cast is therefore not filling any void in terms of functionality in my house. It is useless. Happy?

Smartglass on any phone or tablet will allow you to easily control streaming content to your tv.

People who think this will work well in hotel rooms: how do you plan on connecting it to the web? Because it only streams from the web.

Useless.

Have music or movies on your tablet? Cool story bro! Because it won't stream to this device.

Wifi. Many hotels have wifi.

For one, it's a helluva lot faster to search and browse through Netflix on a tablet than it is using a remote on a Smart TV.

For two, it's not just for Netflix. It's whatever app uses the API to connect to it.

you got a point speed is always welcome, what I am saying is the Chromecast may not be for everybody just a point of view

one of my tv's is always connected to an HTPC and I can do anything way faster than a tablet can :)

but heck $35 with 3 free months of netflix that's a steal :D

Well I don't have a ps3, xbox or atv so maybe not so useless after all?

This is way to good to be true. I didn't think it would work with existing Netflix users.

Ordering 2 now.

yeah that is what I though was well. Then I saw EXISTING ACCOUNTS. That was what pushed me over the edge as I was on the fence before hand.

Is that so? I travel a lot for work. Wifi at a hotel rarely comes in at over 2 Mbps. Besides, they all require you to go to a page to sign on. Are you sure this will even work with this dongle?
I never said fast wifi. How would I know if it would work as these were just announced if I did I would have to be psychic or work for Google.

yes and every new TV will have Google TV built in within a year. Says Google few years ago.

But that's just it. They are not leaving this up to tv/hardware manufacturer's, etc, they are putting it straight into the hands of developers, who can add this functionality to existing or new apps with an average of less than 200 lines of new code. That makes it pretty darned easy to adopt and pretty darned difficult to ignore.

So you've been eagerly waiting for Airplay with less functionality?

You sure about that. Airplay really only plays nice with Apple stuff. Since none of my devices can use Airplay.

The 360 and my Bluray players can do DNLA but that has limited file formats. I am hoping this can be set to mirror what is on my Computer screen. If not the better netflex controls than the TV is a boost.

I am willing to gamble $16 to fill in a void and add that mirror. The $16 gamble is I pretty much save 3 months of netflix that already am paying for.

You said most hotels have wifi. I'm saying that over 90% have insufficient speeds to do anything useful except maybe stream audio. Which brings me back to my original point: this thing is useless. The Apple TV is 3x the price but has 100x the functionality. If you're content to live life in the bargain bin that's your prerogative though.

LOL at people acting like its free or they're profiting because it comes with a trial of Netflix.

Any idea if this mirrors apps? I'm seeing conflicting info while reading this thread.

Lots of brand new forum members posting how the are leaving Apple for this dongle. Really? You are that much of an Apple fan that you waited until now to sign up to MacRumors to tell us you are now leaving?

I smell the stench of fandroid trolls.

For someone lurking around on a Apple specific site, you sure have almost no Apple gear.

For average people here, they can already do everything you said you hope this thing could do in the future.
