Google took aim at Apple last year, this year they have merely put the soil into the grave Apple fell into....

Yeah I have a Nexus 7 that has a better screen already then the iPad Mini, if Apple don't give the mini a retina screen and a LOT more power then you are an even bigger mug to buy it over the new Nexus 7, even the Note 8 has a better screen.
Apple need to put up or shut up.

And that's why I have Apple Products filled with Google Apps and Services. The day Apple understand that is impossible to think Everyone will have only Apple products that day Apple will conquer all the tech-Empire as we know it.

you misunderstand apples business model. apple works to commoditizes services to sell more (apple) hardware. period. google commoditizes hardware (and competitors' software) to get more users to sell more ads.

since apple is not an ad company, producing free services on non-apple hardware gets them nothing. (iTunes doesn't earn apple nearly as much as hardware margin)

cant wait to hear what the first reviews are after using it, Cheap devices always sells , only apple can pull off a very expensive device

Apple sold over 14 million iPad's last quarter. It took Google a year to sell 7 million Nexus 7's.

Your Nexus has a marginally higher pixel density than a Mini while having considerably less display area.

I don't think 'better' means what you think it means.

Actually my Nexus has a PPI of 216 and the iPad mini with a BIGGER screen has only 163 PPI, yeah you CAN tell the difference, the iPad Mini's screen just can't compare, the new Nexus 7 will make you think you wasted your money on a Mini. The differences are more than 'marginal'. And as for sales I suppose you never read the bit where Apple have sold 2.4 million LESS iPads then this time last year?

Once again...absolutely jaw-dropping "innovation" from Google. Now we can stream what's on our phones, computers, and such to a TV.

This is absolutely revolutionary!!!! oh wait...:p

Except in price, because the ATV is 3 times as much. And if you deduct the cost of the 3 free months of Netflix from the price of the Chromecast, the ATV is 10 times as much.

Which is worth every penny when you realize you can actually watch content that isn't Youtube/Netflix or contained within a browser.

Just ordered chromecast. Fun little device for the price and as I was contemplating buying the Samsung Dock for my Galaxy S4, this comes as a surprise.

Also gifted away my iPad 3rd Gen and just bought a Sony Experia Z Tablet. Love the design and the lightness. My iPad was a brick!!!

But the decision to switch was due to the fact that I moved to the Google Ecosystem and Services. So your hardware choices today are not made by their brilliant design but the services it provides.. How strange.

Yes I could use all of Google's services in Apple. But tell me how to syn contacts again? CardDav or something like that? It never worked in my iPad.:(

Don't think I'll be buying the new Nexus 7 this year. I bought a Nexus 7 in February a few days after buying a Nexus 4 and bought an IPad Mini in June. Nothing in the new one is must have. I use my Mini more than anything.

Chromecast is better than Airplay in so many ways. It's a no brainer at $35. I'm starting to feel a little sorry for Apple these days. All of their momentum has stalled. Christ, Asus is making a better tablet. It's making me think that Cook needs to go ASAP.

For people who think this is like airplay, it is worth noting that the content does NOT, I repeat, DOES NOT stream from the tablet, but rather the internet. The tablet just controls it.

Translation: No app or display mirroring. Not like airplay at all.

Useless.

That is all.

Yep.

It will be connecting with everything soon.

The api is being dissected by developers all over the internet. They are all over this thing.

my concern that I had with the early (non jailbroken) ATV's is the requiremnt for content that you are streaming over network from your computers itunes library to be in a specific apple compatible video format, which at times was severly limited (No DiVX containers for example).

Apple used to and not sure if it does now, but require that the content either be bought exclusively from itunes, or be converted to itunes format. (if you have your own library of media content)

If you're someone like me, who has 2TB of media in various formats, from FLAAC audio to MKV encoded HD content, the prospect of having to do mass conversion just to use my own content on an APT is an extreme barrier to entering the eco-system. This is a case where a walled garden ecosystem is an absolute detriment to sales.

Where, in this particular case, since the APK's will be publicly accessible, the liklihood of using a 3rd party system like Plex to be able to push content to my tv wirelessly, for $35 / display is an extremely promising idea.
