Google to Take on Apple in Health and Fitness Tracking with 'Google Fit'

Both Apple and Google have gotten some "inspiration" from the jailbreak/modding community.

But, Android fanatics claim that Google found those ideas by themselves (not jailbreak) and Apple copied Android features. Apple copied jailbreaks and Google did that too.

That's like the go-to excuse when Apple gets caught aping an Android feature in this always very stupid who-did-what-first war. There might've been a couple of occasions where some clever idea that was first done in the Cydia scene was eventually adopted into Android, then by Apple later, but I'd hardly call it a universal thing.

Google has come up with quite a few of their own clever ideas, copied others directly from the competition, and lifted some from things Palm did way back when. Just like Apple.

Congratulations. You found a flaw in a massive system. Guess what: Google maps have flaws too. All maps have flaws - they're made by humans.

I am fully aware of that. Your post, however, seemed to claim that Apple Maps would be an exception to that rule.

It's asinine to think that Google is going to sell health data with this Google Fit service. There are strict laws on disclosure of medical information. And if there isn't some stringent privacy measures built into the service, customers aren't going to use it.

Shameless Copycats!
Google is The New Xerox

A copy is never better than its original

Why is it a after thought for google every time ? Can't they come up with something original ? Freaking Copycats!!!

I really hate google for this (copying) i would stop using google search if i had a choice. Though i do like them as an Engineering company, but there marketing is just screwed up .. they are always the followers at what Apple makes. There marketing team should understand that Engineering is not just about a "me-too" product, it is about revolutionising the tech space.

Half of there (googles/Samsung) products are Apples Rumour Products, as if they always wanna make junk products just to say "Yup we were the first". Come on Samsung/Google grow-up.

How stupid to think Google copied Apple. Its been under development for nearly as long as Apple, you can't just watch the WWDC keynote and do it tomorrow. Its unbelievable how some people really lack common sense:rolleyes:

Who cares who copies who, the real question here is, do you really want a money mongering corporation that is NOT a healthcare provider gathering and handling your personal health info? Personally I don't, perticularly a internet connected device.

wasn't google..

Already in the health data business at one point? They had Health.google.com and has since closed it down due to lack of interest; they may have a leg up on apple as far as development goes, but apple will surely have a larger user base quickly

You do realize that Apple HealthKit is not an original. Visit the app store for the mac and iTunes and you can find a host of apps that can perform the same tasks as Apple's HealthKit. So, you could say Apple is a copycat too. Currently, I'm using Digifit Cardio App.

You may recall Google Health was discontinued about two years ago. That app collected much of the data Apple's HealthKit now collect. The only difference between the two is Apple's UI allows different sensors to tap into its health app whereas Googles did not.

Knowing google, it will be a competitive product aimed at higher market share than apple, but Apple hardware will prove better than most third-party hardware out there.
