Google learned the Microsoft way... The stuff we sell is ****, so let's at least make it cheap or free.

Google's messaging app is on par with iMessages.

Google's Maps are far superior to that of Apple's.

Google's search algorithms are vastly superior to that of Apple's, Microsoft's, and Yahoo's.

Google Docs and Sheets are better than Apple's Pages & Numbers in the cloud.

People need to think about posting . Google has been working on health kit stuff probably just as long as Apple has been.

Source or it didn't happen.

Google is infinitely better than Microsoft, but Google Maps has actually been worse for me. It took me to the wrong destination for a U-Haul drop off, about a mile off, yesterday, and I've had other issues. Apple Maps has never given me bad directions, plus the app is way less laggy and easier to use.

Apple's POI implementation is downright embarrassing.

Apple is not first but they are the one that successfully disrupts the market and makes the product really work making it astounding popular to the masses and even a must have for people who do not care about computers iPod, iPhone, iPad and it will be the same with the iWatch and also iHealth and iHome!

Just like they did with maps, ping, mobileme and what have you?

The difference being Apple wants to work with health professionals, and Google will be targeting you with ads for high blood pressure pills, viagra, and hemorrhoid cream.

No where as much as Facebook and Google, their whole business model is to sell user info and data. Apple's business model is to sell you their products and gears. In this case I trust Apple lot more.

If you don't see the difference, I can't help you.

I don't think Google sells user data, as it would probably be a bad decision for them to do so. The user data is one of the most valuable things they have. What they do is *they* use the data for targeting the ads that advertisers pay for (other than maybe some aggregate data such as how much search volume certain terms get, etc.) No need to sell the keys to the kingdom.

Not sure why people are saying google are copying? wasn't it samsung that have been making a huge push for health before apple? with there heart rate monitor and applications they released with the Galaxy s4?

Besides if they do announce and release a health app/features in 2 weeks time, wouldn't it be clear they have been working on in for a while? aka before apple annouched it? or do people think it would be that quick to create an app, API etc in the space of 3 weeks?

Shameless Copycats!
Google is The New Xerox

A copy is never better than its original

Yeah, even though Google had already announced a platform dedicated to smart wearables (you can easily assume that would include fitness-tracking products) before we had any word from Apple about HealthKit.

Anyway, it's not like Apple don't copy others - look at iOS 8. I'm an iOS developer but I'm not afraid to look at the reality of things here. Both companies will have had their respective projects in the making for a long time, it's inevitable that this is the next step in smart products that big players like Apple, Google and Microsoft will want to take.

it's also a bit rich saying google is a copy can considering ios7 copied many design features from palm, windows mobile and android, and iOS 8 continues features like widgets, 3rd party keyboards, hey siri etc

Yes, Apple offering is worst than Microsoft and Samsung offerings in health

Couldn't be the case they have people infiltrated inside Apple gathering information for them?
Many Companies do it, Countries too; plus, the media (including MR) has been advertising it for a while already.

So, i'm not surprised at all.

I'm sure that people write those comments to have a good laugh, no one with just a little common sense can write such ridiculous things

Just a quick word to all those shouting copies cats, how's that notification centre coming on for you?

Isn't that the point? Apple does something that has been done before and you cry about it for four years. The competition does it at least four or five times a year.

Just like they did with maps, ping, mobileme and what have you?

No, like they did with iPod, iPhone, iPad, aluminum bodied PC's, phones, and tablets, capacitive screens, gyroscopes, accelerometers, fingerprint sensors, etc. Software certainly isn't Apple's strongest point.

Or the price!

Oh you'll be paying one way or another.

Yeah, no. Is meant to come in on that add well. One of the more famous things apple (and Microsoft for that matter) is famous for doing is copying the Xerox windowing system for MacOS and Windows respectively. You may have been ignorant of it, but the more educated here on this matter automatically went there, not to a xerox copy.

Also, if you're old enough to still say Xerox for a copy, you should know this. And that there is the problem with Apple users in general.

Here... get your facts straight: http://zurb.com/article/801/steve-jobs-and-xerox-the-truth-about-inno

You can jab back and fourth all you want. All comes down to how much money made form the platform.

My take on Android is it's consumer market is the biggest hoard of cheap bastards I have ever met. They don't want to pay for anything except their cell phone bill.

About the only way to make money off Android is in enterprise apps or selling your own Android devices. The rest of the Android market is table scraps.

Why is it a after thought for google every time ? Can't they come up with something original ? Freaking Copycats!!!

I really hate google for this (copying) i would stop using google search if i had a choice. Though i do like them as an Engineering company, but there marketing is just screwed up .. they are always the followers at what Apple makes. There marketing team should understand that Engineering is not just about a "me-too" product, it is about revolutionising the tech space.

Half of there (googles/Samsung) products are Apples Rumour Products, as if they always wanna make junk products just to say "Yup we were the first". Come on Samsung/Google grow-up.

Yes its sad that their I/O reveal of this is coming after Apple announced theirs. I mean the nerve of the company. I give them credit though for copyinging a whole fitness app system in just mere weeks though. I mean wow imagine what they could have done if they were developing it months ago and wanted to show it off for their I/O showcase.....

The more options the better. I don't think I'll be using anyone's health tracker in reality. I'm just tooooo fit and it might anger the device.

An app that measures your running distance isn't the same as a full fledge health app.

Their fitness app and integration was a precursor to their health applications today. Fitness is related to health. Its also been developed over the years.

Google also failed at the Connected TV! Once Apple does the Connected TV correctly with their real Apple TV ( not the little cube ) then Google will copy Apple again! I see a pattern!

It is quite a coincidence when Steve Jobs biography came out about solving television we saw a resurgence with smart TV's.
