1) You do a poor Nostradamus. I challenge you to show me where I've ever explicitly or implictly said on these pages that Apple was an "angel" corporation. Apple is a company, not a church, a charity, or co-op. Sorry to bust your convenient story line by pegging me as, by implication of your statement, a fan boy.

2) The SLA you quote is necessary for location service type apps to work, not to sell Starbucks information that you like to visit Pete's Coffee. Big difference between that and what Google does. Apple's own iAds works off of aggregated data, not personal data. Apple has stated in its privacy policy it does not sell personal data. Period.

I think you need to read Apple's Privacy Policy before you say anything more.

Hah...I never said you explicitly labeled Apple as an "angel" corporation - so calm down. Nor was I saying you are a fanboy. Maybe my choice of words was poor, but my point is this: Apple is not as "innocent" as you and others in this thread believe. They do and will use your data. Given the wording of the SLA, it sure as heck is written in a manner that does let them use it for advertising if they so choose to. I don't think you can deny this.

yeah but the difference is not that Apple copied its that it didn't seem like ohhh well Google announced one so now we have to also in the way this seems. It's just like when touch id came out. The next day Samsung was like me too. It's not oh here is our spin on the old idea.

Touch unlocking devices isn't anything new that Apple invented either. I seem to recall laptops with fingerpoint readers that would unlock the computer. Apple was the first to put it on a phone.

I do not understand criticizing Apple for constantly refining its products. Many people use all these products for a purpose. The have to get work done with them. No product is "perfect"... there can always be improvement. I need a company that makes a product, and I know that they will continue to support, and improve it. Obsession to perfection. I do NOT want a company that throws a ton of products at the wall to see what sticks... and has already moved on to other stuff and forgotten them a month later.
And Android Operating System. Why tout all its features, when it is dead on arrival. If you buy a phone, done expect to easily upgrade it to any new version of the OS. How many Android users are on the newest version? Not many. I run a business, and rely on the apps and tech. I will always choose the company that is constantly refining... as trivial as you might think that is. Because if I find a flaw in the software, i can be confident Apple is working on a fix (instead of making driverless cars or whatever.

Having the latest os isn't always that important but here's a simple solution buy a nexus or pure google version of a phone and you will always have the latest android os. It's the only the skinned versions that hold you back. upgrade wise.

MS did it first, Samsung launched before Apple, Apple announced it (we have to see it) and Google is playing catch up.

There, hopefully it'll help you put some things in perspective.

He's emotional

No way apple fans will say that apple copies too

But what makes you think Apple doesn't share the data that it collects on you with its partners?
What makes you think they could share that info with partners and word wouldn't ever get out? We often find out well in advance what the next iPhone, iPad, or Mac will look like because partners leak. Why would these partners — who would be using the info for marketing — be dramatically less likely to leak the information over a much longer period of time?

Not sure who did it first, but the Motorola Atrix 4G had a finger print reading power button (for security) on it, which predates touch id.

The more competition in the Market the better. More features, More products. More choice. Everyone is welcome.

Not always. Having too many choices can stunt innovation because nobody works together and collaborates on a system that could truly change the way things are done. It's part of the reason the TV industry still hasn't been overhauled. The copying is often done to prevent disruptive technology from being too disruptive.

You do realize that Apple explicitly states they can/will use your information with its partners, right? Go read the iOS 7.0 SLA or see my previous post (#61).

"Your current heartrate is 151. Do you need a will-writer? Click for directions."

It gets even worse: 'Your current heart rate is 151. You are 0.01 meters from your partner, whose heart rate is 145. Are you using protection? <Insert ad for condoms>'.

(sorry about the crude humor. Suffice it to say I resisted the impulse to joke about a scenario involving heart rates, proximity to partner, and Viagra)

monkey see, monkey do

no vision, no leadership

Google has no vision? Really?

Or are you speaking about Apple (putting other brand components in yet another case they have made?)

What are all the BIG projects, perhaps life changing, that Apple are working on right now?

Apple bought the company who provided this technology to Motorola after the strip was released IIRC.

Or course, I love things to work well, but is that all you need to do?

I had to actually laugh, and this is hand on heart true.

I read your posting on my iPad, and guess, what, I was about to type a reply, but Safari crashed me out to the iOS home screen. So I could not be bothered to browse back to it again, I just waited till I'm back on my PC to reply to you via Google chrome.

Google are experimenting building driverless cars for the future for everyone to benefit from perhaps in time, trying to offer a means for the whole world to have wifi internet access around the globe (something we take for granted) and trying to map the whole planet in even greater detail for every man, women and child to benefit from.
And Apple can't even stop their own web browser from crashing all the time on their own hardware. sheesh!

so many purely asanine comments in this thread about google copying.

you do realize that Apple are copying too right? health based Apps, hardware and platforms have been available by competing platforms for years.

Apple AND google are late to the game.

but of course, only google is the copycat.

The more competition in the Market the better. More features, More products. More choice. Everyone is welcome.

But the problem is

  1. Only reason Google doing this is just because of Apple is doing. If Google had made this a couple years ago, they would be just ''late'' but making it just after 1 month Apple introduced health app in WWDC seems a little bit strange
  2. Google usually copies all Apple services and acts like they are original and definetely did not stole anything
  3. Google usually makes a worse version of it and uses it just for collecting your data. No privacy, no respect to the consumer

There's no word to get out. Apple explains it clearly in their privacy policy. Apple collects and disseminates both personal and anonymous data. Just like Google. If you want to know what either company collects and shares, it's just a few keystrokes away.

Apple:http://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/en-ww/

Google: http://www.google.com/policies/privacy/

That way, you can avoid the FUD that permeates internet forums. Just an FYI, both companies policies are strikingly similar.

Apples Touch ID method is unique. No other mobile device uses this method.!
