…and Google thinks that people trust them..?

Came here to say this.

Google outrank Apple on trust in every independent study. Surprising I know. Google score insanely high.

Apple throw a lot of money in fancy privacy ads but all they get is better trust than Meta lol. Fun fact: Amazon scores higher in trust than Apple as well!

I think a few privacy scandals and a lingering effect of batterygate hurts them, out in the wild.

Everyone here trusts them though, I think.

But I assume Google will be just fine when Gemini is one of Apple’s 3rd party partners.

Which has never made sense to me. I have a feeling those studies are of folks who may not be familiar with how Google actually does with their data. I would imagine if you actually explained what Google is doing with data, the average user's opinion would change.

Gemini can't even answer this simple question! "Alice has four brothers and one sister. How many sisters does Alice's brother have?"

It’s just ingrained in their DNA.

I won’t say where I work but recently we had ChatGPT and Google both in to sell us enterprise AI solutions.

The difference in presentation was night and day.

ChatGPT were all about capability and product.

Google’s first few slides were all about privacy, security and data ownership. It was hammered home before anything else. Then the next part was about integration with all the other Gsuite tools we have (and many other businesses have). They’ll win the enterprise buck because they get it.

ChatGPT will fade away and Google will dominate.

My assessment: Apple only got into bed with them because they were desperate to catch up after getting caught off guard by AI. ChatGPT, if the rumours here are true, aren’t even getting paid. That’s how desperate both parties in the deal are! Apple will be surprised when they realise how little the average Joe cares about it.

*excuse the previous typos, Apple iPhone keyboard…

On device is better than sending it to servers. Apple has on device AI, and needs user to consent to send data to cloud. Google doesn’t provide on device option, everything is up for grabs.
Apple doesn't anything more on device than Samsung or Google do. What is your point?
It would have been nice if Apple came up with at least one single on-device idea on their own instead of adopting everything Samsung has been doing and now Google, too.

Although privacy is one of the things that on-device AI can address (whether or not Google keeps that promise remains to be seen), it is mainly for (1) faster response, even without the Internet and (2) avoid paying for the cloud infrastructure.

Over the next few years, consumer-based AI companies will struggle t recoup the cost of expensive cloud infrastructure.

Apple does lot more on device. May be read up on how on device AI runs on Apple devices. Surprisingly Apple models are open source unlike Samsung and Google that send data to servers.

lol only fools trust google

Apple "trusts" Google. I believe Apple is or at least was Google's largest customer for its cloud storage services. Apple used Google TPUs in the development of its AI. Apple uses Google (yes, for $$$$$) as the coveted pre-set search default on Safari.

I’m an Apple user who chose OpenAI. I subscribe because it’s useful for me and much better than Gemini in my trials.

Also, the OpenAI features in iOS will be opt in. This means you will specifically have to choose to use it.
I was hoping Gemini would work, Google had a great offer with 30 TB free cloud space and heavily discounted Google suite. Alas, Gemini was one of the worst along with copilot. I don’t subscribe to Open AI every month but I do subscribe few months when I need it.

Trust is a nuanced and multifaceted concept. Are Google trustworthy in the enterprise sector? Sure, as far as I can tell from all the way over here, but that doesn't impact me!

Do I trust them as a consumer to do and not do things the way I'm happy with? No way!

So much better then what Apple announced for their AI software, that may or may not even launch this year. I am sorry but Open AI just isn't it, its the least trust worthy company, they killed their ethics ai team, people are leaving.. just wouldn't touch them with any of my data. Apple really should have partnered first with Google imo, but that probably doesn't look quite right in their leaders eyes I am sure.

I wonder how many people against side loading will say this without a hint of irony
They're not a perfect correlation. Not using ChatGPT is just not using it. Having side loading enable introduces more avenues for security vulnerabilities, whether you use it or not.

So does using ChatGPT like how you can trick it into telling you the contents of other people's conversations

Lmao source?

Anyone who gives any sh** about their data’s privacy buys iPhone… I mean c’mon Google is an ADVERTISING company, and what do advertisers like?

Sweet, delicious user data.
