"conversations which last" = Google stores your chat history for all of eternity in order to market targeted ads to you.

Simply not true. As per the keynote, history is optional. Plus, which targeted ads do you see in the app?

Seriously, what has this website turned into? Forums are overrun by Google and Samsung sheep and all the stories posted are about Google or Samsung. Sad. It was fun while it lasted though

what is this? USA App Store only? (edit: Works in Canada if you follow link directly, search does not show the app)

also, about time they made an "official" chat app.. the one within Google+ app was good, but recent builds made it worse.

edit: Why not use the Google Talk name? or Google Chat? Hangouts really?

Hangin' out with my wang out.

What? You think Apple doesn't save your iMessages on their servers? You guys kill me.

that wasnt the question.

i trust apple w/ my data more so than google, because apple isnt an ad company that makes its money mining my personal details and using it for targeting ads. nor has apple been found guilty of violating privacy in multiple countries.

I can't install it yet but a question for those who have it now. Does it check your iphone contacts for friends with the same app just like Whatsapp does with telephone numbers? or does it rely on gmail's contact management??

Would you guys really trust google with your conversations? Really?
I will surely not trust them to handle confidential informations, just like I would be a fool to trust Apple, Microsoft or any other such provider.

I'm not even going to lie, this site doesn't even feel like a source for Apple news and rumors, but rather news and rumors from its competitors and other shenanigans.

I'm definitely a fan of this app for iOS. It works well and keeps me signed in even when I force close the app. I get push notifications. What I don't understand is am I always signed in? How do people tell about me being inactive?

Well you can always ignore it until Apple do something newsworthy. Based on the current development cycle and media releases you might be looking at the same home page for quite a while though.

More than Apple, yeah

I have the app and it's pretty confusing. For instance, if I search for a friends he shows up twice (phone and email). Then I add another and it's a group chat, but the lower left icon displays only one friend, which (I assume) means there's only one friend in the hangout... So confusing.

I'd be happier if Messages in Mountain Lion wasn't such a piece of crap. Randomly arranging message order, failing to show messages, sending messages to the wrong contact account ...

out of "beta" my ass.

I figured it was just a glitch with my setup! Ridiculous...

I want to test this with my buddy who uses an android phone, does anyone know of a direct link to android version of this app?

Google Apps for Business here and says hangouts has not been authorized for my domain. I already use google + app and can use hangouts there. Can't find anything in the domain settings that would prevent the hangout app from being authorized.

Whether or not you delete your history, Google still retains that data.

Google makes no secret that the ads targeted to you are based on words indexed in your Google search strings, in your Gmail emails, and I'm sure on your Google "Hangout" chats.

Keeping it on servers and monetizing personal data are two very different things.

It's Google's primary business to serve targeted ads, so being able to snoop-in on every private conversation I have and know where I travel, etc. is their greatest wet dream. Apple makes most of its money selling hardware. :)

...how do you think iAds works? Just because Apple makes more money on hardware, doesn't mean they are not using your personal info to sell ads.
