The pandemic is there for everyone but apparently only Apple’s supply chain was affected to the extent of postponing their smartphone release. Coming from the biggest and richest tech company in the world I can only qualify this situation as ridiculous! Amateurish even...

Arguably the iPhone is the largest phone release in the pandemic so far. The sheer quantity of devices is the main problem. If the expected quantity were lower I'm sure there wouldn't have been a delay. The new Apple Watches are probably shipping more devices than the Pixel 5.

Go check the number of iPhones that Apple manufactures in a month and the number of Pixel phones that Google manufactures in a month, and then get back to us.

Pretty sure it's still a plastic phone. They seem to be using some clever word play by saying "100% recycled aluminum" to make it sound like the phone is actually aluminum.

Still a great phone though :)

Not sure there's any ambiguity.

100% recycled aluminum enclosure.

Google even managed to include... an 18W USB-C power adapter! 😁

²Back housing only

Probably talking about some supporting backplate.

I'm 100% sure everything you touch is plastic with this phone. There's not a single antenna line in the whole enclosure and there's wireless charging.

Oneplus pulled exactly the same move with their OnePlus Nord, turned out they were talking about the buttons and the sides was all plastic.

I have to admit - this looks like a really nice phone. While I prefer the stainless steel on my phone, this would be a pretty slick alternative . . . if it didn't run android. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The back housing is the back housing. The back housing is the only place manufacturers can choose between plastic and aluminum.

Everybody uses aluminum for the midframe, even for $200 smartphones.

It’s like they copied the HomePod design and slapped apples multiple iPhone colours on it
Ever since the HomePod was announced it seems like Google’s designers pined it to their board. I know this one is based on the mesh face of the Google Home Max but... it sure looks like a flattened HomePod! From straight on it is uncanny. Then again, Sony and Echo took direct “inspiration” for a while there too...

Hey looks great and like they put a bit of effort into it. The price point is solid for 2020 where a lot of people will be struggling to go for a flagship $1000 phone.

Solid post. Consumers are budget conscious, and you’re right, they’re not spending A $1000 on smart phones in an economy that’s not stable. The iPhone SE 2 and Pixel 5 our phones that offer substantial features with an affordable price point. The only thing you’re choosing, is not the hardware, it’s the platform you prefer.

Thanks for the Head's-Up, I had completely forgotten about these two.

Will now look into them in more detail.

On the surface, they certainly "appear" to be worthy of some App Dev time !

Also, different subject, I believe this ups the chances AAPL announces their 5.5" "SE Plus" by year's end !
