Google Unveils Pixel Phone, Smart Home Hub, and More at AI-Focused Event

I hate to shoot holes in your theory that Apple's iPhone is targeted at dumb consumers, but since it is like shooting fish in a barrel, I'll point you to the following study from AdWeek. Sorry.

"iPhone users represent the richer spectrum of the society with 67% users having an annual household income of $200K or more. 80% of the Android users are more likely to have only a high school diploma compared with 37% of the iPhone users to have a graduate degree."

oh I'm in the 33% and the 63% - maybe I'm not worthy!

That looks.... like an uglier iPhone
I have to agree with this. And why that big bezel on the bottom if the buttons are on the screen?

Odd phone and very expensive.

Like a lot of Google's products, they'll get bored and drop it in a couple of years.

You really can't argue against fast charging. It's a good feature. Even if you wouldn't use if often.

I remember people "yelling" at me when I suggested the original iPad should have come with a camera...

I agree.
I wish iPhone had fast charging... And it doesn't have to be a race to see has the fastest (which what tech sites will focus on)... it just has to be decent solution, so I can fit the charge-up time in my every day life.

Even 20-30 min to charge up 70% would be fine for me (vs. currently a couple of hours).

For example, in the evening when my iPhone goes below, say, 30% after a day of heavier usage, it'll be nice to quickly spend 20 minutes to top it up before going out for the evening.

.

Newsflash! Low-income families can't afford higher education because it's prohibitively expensive. They also can't afford iPhones because they are prohibitively expensive. Because they can't afford these things, they must be stupid! Because they are stupid, Android targets them, because Apple targets the smart people, who aren't low-income.

Apple is for smart people. Because smart people are rich! And only rich people can afford advanced degrees to make them appear smart according to articles like this, which is the key to being smart.

This logic is awesome! We can use this kind of BS to prove anyone with an Apple product is truly elite in every way. Congratulations on your find!

So you can hold your Nexus 5 in your hands and use it properly whilst charging 'wireless'?

Can you do that with an iPhone...........

Wireless charging means no cables into the device, please stop pretending it's anything else as you STILL need a charger plugged into the friggin mains no matter what wireless charging anyone is working on, you don't just magically pull electricity out of thin air. And considering overhead electric cable on pylons have been proven to cause cancer, good luck with your electricity beaming across your room.....

As an Amazon Echo user I'll be interested in seeing how many products Google Home is compatible with, if it's anything like Siri who is forcing existing companies to upgrade their hardware before it will work then it'll be a long haul.

me too,
Nest being owned by Alphabet and surely SONOS if they are integrating with Echo in 2017.

Indeed, iPhone and iWatch users are courageously and unapologetically materialistic and superficial.

I would feel embarrassed pulling out a Google phone out of my pocket in public. I dunno, pulling out an iPhone just feels cool. Hard to explain this psychological phenomenon.
It's called "being a snob".

With a Google product, you feel yourself like a second-class citizen that lives in a third-world country. Whereas Apple products feel luxurious, it's like owning a Porsche, or like living in Switzerland or Monaco.
I live in Switzerland, own two Porsches (yeah I'm rather fortunate) and think Google products are very cool. Does your head in, right?

I think @DoctaSfink was just making a point that Apple users aren't inherently "smart," and Android users aren't inherently "dumb." And those with college degrees aren't inherently "smart" and those with only high school degrees aren't inherently "dumb."

Are you serious?

Do you feel the same way about what you wear? Would you feel embarassed driving a Honda?

My iPhone charges pretty quickly when I use a 2.1A charger, either by a third-party or a stray iPad charger. I have no clue why Apple continues to include those little 1A chargers with the iPhone.

So this is an iPhone for android users... let see
Same form factor as iPhone - checked
Antenna bands - checked
Gimmicky attempt at siri - checked
No sd card - checked
Clean and simple UI - checked
I won't disagree with most of these points, but I'd have to say google has been leaps and bounds ahead with their "gimmicky attempt at Siri" for years now. Opinions will differ I suppose.

Really? Who is they?

Try something right now for me. Ask Google Now for flights between Chicago and New York City.

Now ask Siri the same question.

I'll sit back and wait for you to tell me who is light years ahead.
I think most people making comments here about Siri being the bees knees don't use Google assistant at all. There are many aspects I think Apple has the overall edge in terms of user experience. Siri isn't one of those bullet points.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm left sorely disappointed with pixel to be rather frank....

Some of the other things are nice though. If they work as advertised.

If its easy, why haven't Apple already implemented this? Why do other manufacturers have to do this first before Apple?

Battery longevity. Having a battery that lasts a full day (2 with a 7+) and then a normal charge overnight will allow the battery to last long. Quick charge kills the lifespan of the battery. O, and your phone can explode.

Unlimited high-res image storage is pretty awesome. C'mon Apple, time to compete!

Yeah, and if you decide to get rid of that phone, what happens to all that free storage? I'm pretty sure this is how they plan to hook you into using their phones forever or paying for unlimited storage if you ever switch.

Yes, it is SO COOL using the same gadget as almost everybody else (in the US, at least).

Yay for group-think!
Yay for vapid materialism!
Yay for superficiality!

What happened to think different?

Google AI >>>>> Apple AI by far. It's no contest. Siri is horrible once you've used anything Google has to offer. Apple is way behind because they don't collect enough data.
