that's not an example of "light years ahead" - that's an example of a plug in google coded for - something easily added to Apples existing system. Light years ahead would be: "google show me flights between chicago and um no I mean uh .... LA and new york tomorrow evening around 1-ish - oh and it must be first class seating only - that's important and I prefer Delta because I have miles with them - definitely not American" - THAT would be light years ahead - try it and let me know what google does. Anything else is programmed actions that any "AI" can currently do.
I guess our opinions differ. One AI lacks even the level of intelligence you claim is easy to switch in and one doesn't. I'm not here to argue. I use android and iOS side by side and Siri (for whatever reason, justifiable or not) simply isn't as good. I don't personally need to claim it's light years ahead though. Simply saying "Siri isn't all that good compared to google now" is fine by me. This doesn't need to be a semantics debate. Google now is measurably better st presenting info the first time by virtually all accounts.

Even the ***** wall paper on the phone is copied from Apple. Lets be honest here, Google cannot innovate - they can only copy. Google music - Apple Music, Google home - Amazon Echo, Chromecast - Apple TV, Google WIFI, Apple Airport. Android - iOS. They have 1 good original thing - search - that is it!

You forgot to add "IMHO". These are not facts just your personalized bias. Tell me again how Apple is the innovative leader in their relic computers.

Apple is not the winner in everything except in your own bias. Competition is really good, don't be mad because someone else is competing. Apple has been notorious in copying from others as well.

Wow, I can't imagine why people who buy Apple's uber expensive products would have higher incomes on average. Whatever could be the reason?

Admittedly I should have been more explicit in my description of dumb consumers. By "dumb consumers" I basically mean people who are dumb about tech. Lots of smart people who excell in their own fields of work simply don't know much about computers. They learn what they must but unless they're enthusiasts they don't know every nook and cranny of their computer's OS.

It's the same with DSLRs. They're bought by people with high incomes, but only a fraction of the buyers actually know how to use the damn things. Most people just set to "P" and play with the zoom - doesn't mean they're stupid, they just don't have the time or interest to learn about photography.

Uber expensive? Here in the UK a 5.5 inch 128GB Pixel is the same price as a 5.5 inch 128GB iPhone 7 Plus.
Does that mean Google products are now uber expensive also then?

Then why are iPhones sold in low budget stores like Walmart and Target?

Because iPhones are sought after by people from all economic levels and smart consumers shop where they

Ok, thank you for the clarification Giscard. That makes more sense.

not enough people to make it relevant anyway, so, essentially, nobody.

You must be living in your own world. Just because YOU don't need it, doesn't mean nobody else does. I see this type of logic with Apple fanboys all the time though. It's pretty ridiculous.

Every question they asked Googl's assistant on stage SIRI can equally answer. Light years ahead??? No!

Nexus and iPad user here. Google Now (predecessor of Assistant) is light years, dozens of light years ahead of Siri. Not only about what it can do / answer, but also the speed and the accuracy. There's no debate here.

-.- Of course google can offer that to a phone that will only have in the 10s of millions in operation. The data for 100s of millions of iOS devices is much more substantial. That's like going to a cafe and getting a free coffee in a town of 2000 people and expecting the same treatment at a Starbucks in Manhattan. You just wouldn't expect that.

And it's not true. While it does not offer full resolution for free, you can download photos for iOS or _any_ android device right now and get free, unlimited storage for your photos at a reduced (12mp) resolution. that's not 10s of millions or 100s of millions, but Billions of devices.

Even the ***** wall paper on the phone is copied from Apple.
I was under the impression that this much-maligned wallpaper is a satellite photo of something with water, while the Apple wallpaper is a photo of waves. Or is now every picture containing water an original Apple invention?

might as well put a high speed data connection probe right up your rectum. Great tech from the company you can't trust.... can we say fascism?

This launch is similar to when Amazon launched Fire Phone and probably will end up like that phone.
- boring design,
- way behind the other phones,
- feature no one wants(4 cameras for Fire),
- exclusivity with a Carrier (ATT in Fire's case, Verizon in Google's)
- Similarly priced to other high end phones.

WTF, Google?

I love how much thicker this phone is than the iPhone. That's innovation, Apple. Making things thicker, not thinner. It's about function over form. Not form being function, because thinness has no correlation with use.

Being thicker makes it so there is no ugly protruding camera and allows for a bigger and heavier battery. That makes it easier to use.

Lol. Ok, if you say so. As an end user, it is a heck of a lot more useful than a link to Orbitz, which is Siri's answer.

I would feel embarrassed pulling out a Google phone out of my pocket in public. I dunno, pulling out an iPhone just feels cool. Hard to explain this psychological phenomenon.

With a Google product, you feel yourself like a second-class citizen that lives in a third-world country. Whereas Apple products feel luxurious, it's like owning a Porsche, or like living in Switzerland or Monaco.
You are kidding right. iPhones are ugly as **** with those huge bezels. I will keep my S7 thanks.

the coloring and style look very similar. at least to me.

Can you do that with an iPhone...........

Wireless charging means no cables into the device, please stop pretending it's anything else as you STILL need a charger plugged into the friggin mains no matter what wireless charging anyone is working on, you don't just magically pull electricity out of thin air. And considering overhead electric cable on pylons have been proven to cause cancer, good luck with your electricity beaming across your room.....
I get your frustration but I think they were referring to "wireless charging mat" versus "wireless charging." Obviously both would require something plugged into the walls, but true wireless wouldn't require the device to be sitting on a charging mat/station, and would work at distances of like ten feet or so.

And no, there are no devices that currently have that, so it's a semantic point entirely. Like I said, I get your frustration.

I see a lot of salty Apple fanboys. Perhaps it's because they managed to make a nice phone WITH a headphone jack?
Or maybe it's because this is how the majority of internet discourse goes, people defending their camp because they like that thing and therefore it must be best and anyone who holds a different preference is inherently wrong? Just a thought.

Absolutely right. I've tried both platforms recently and am back on iOS now. Google Now is so far ahead of Siri it's not even funny. It understands more and provides more accurate information. It gets close to something I'd actually use. As opposed to Siri, which is still a gimmick to me. Anyone who argues otherwise must be a pure Apple fanboy. I'd challenge them to come up with one non-obscure thing that Siri does better.

So basically, immaturity?

I'll have to admit I'm definitely on the side of the trusty old analog jack dying. Have been for longer than Apple even decided to do it.

I think the biggest adavantage replacement technology will have is true two-way communication. Allowing for more advanced noise cancellation development taking advantage of the processing power of your device, all manner of sensors built in and so on. There's probably many benefits we haven't even begun to imagine yet.

As for wireless, if they can get that to as good as if not better than the old girl then all the better. I'm definitely in favour of wire free listening. I love my current wired cans don't get me wrong and I paid a lot of money for them. But the prospect of not strangling myself or having them yanked from my head, that I like. I've also got good Bluetooth cans but there's massive, massive scope to improve there.

The simplicity of things such as Apple have implemented, connect to one of your devices just once and then all of your (Apple) devices are registered. Start playing on your iPhone/iPad/Apple TV/Mac/iPod/Apple Watch and the headphones just work. Switch playback to a different device, the headphones automatically switch with along it and just work. That's a future I dreamed of when I started getting into headphones all those years ago.

competition is great - i'm all for it. But what google is doing "IMHO" - (happy?) is not competing - It copying. They aren't looking to ship this in volume (I'm guessing) - so push the envelope of design - don't copy apple's two year old design. Apple is not the winner in everything - Google kills everyone in search. But, when the google bosses get on stage and send shade to Apple and the present this thing as an "innovation" then they open the door to criticism.
