Apple talks a lot about Privacy as a differentiator for their devices. They should live up to it and start messaging through RCS when the other person is using it on their end.
Lol says the person who doesn’t know rcs is not encrypted, RCS and Google RCS are not the same thing, google is using a propriety addon for their encryption

iPhone to iPhone communication can still use iMessage but I'd really like it if I could get better quality video and pics when I text Android users. It's really childish to tell someone that they shouldn't be friends with someone that doesn't have the smartphone brand they themselves have.
You can use any existing app to do that stop limiting yourself lol

Hey Google,

„How secure is RCS? Unlike iMessage or WhatsApp, RCS doesn't support end-to-end encryption, which encrypts messages as they travel from sender to recipient. That means messages sent over RCS could technically be intercepted and viewed by third-parties.“

Side bar: The new generation mostly uses Apple iPhones. Android is dying.

You do know that there is an entire planet outside of the US where Android is more or less the dominant platform?

As an iOS user outside of the US I would very much appreciate if I had a good messaging platform built into my phone that worked with the many people that use Android, which really isn't going anywhere.

I love Apple and I love Android. I currently have an iPhone with one of the main reasons is iMessage, but I have a few family members (especially my grandparents) that have Android and we can't send them videos due to the compression issues and trying to teach my grandfather how to use another messaging app is out the door as he can barely figure out his phone now. A lot of people just can't afford iPhones as well, I totally understand Apple wanting to keep the iMessage ecosystem for their own but if they can work with google to add some sort of RCS so Apple and Android can send at least videos that are actually viewable would be perfect!
Just use any decent messaging app why are you limiting yourself

The difference is that WhatsApp requires an internet (or data) connection. Those that turn off data won't be able to use WhatsApp. That's where iMessage becomes elegant, because it falls back to SMS to ensure message delivery. Does RCS, or are users stuck with an unsent message?
Google Rcs also requires a data connection

The way it’s written makes perfect sense, putting 2023 instead doesn’t. It’s referring to the year ending rather than a specific date.

Although, as a non-USer, the ad being in Las Vegas is odd to me. Isn’t the ball drop a New York thing or do those on the west coast celebrate the New Year early?
Fair enough, my mistake.

To your question, it’s the most watched New Year’s Eve special in the country. A reference to the ball dropping would be understood symbolically to be referring to the start of the New Year notwithstanding their time zone.

I’m not a Google fan, but c’mon people… A modern cross-platform messaging system would benefit all users and is long overdue. It just needs both major OS makers to lay down arms long enough to collaborate on it. One of those companies is at least trying, and it ain’t Apple!
Rcs is not modern, it’s not been adopted by networks for a reason

All major mobile carriers and manufacturers have implemented RCS support, including AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Motorola, Nokia, OnePlus, Samsung, Sony, and others, with Apple remaining the lone holdout.
I know that MacRumors is US centric, but this is really beyond anything else. Outside of the US, almost no major mobile carriers have implemented RCS support. Apart from many objections I have to RCS, RCS wouldn't do me any good as my carrier hasn't implemented RCS and has no plans to do so.

Apple is doomed, once again its proprietary ship is thinking.

EUs DMA mandates all messengers to be compatible. So what to do, Apple?

There is a good chance that Apple will announce RCS compatibility on WWDC 2023.

Apple, your strategy (or Tims strategy) fails once again.
You fail to understand the networks do not support rcs, implementing support for something is not supported is worthless all you are doing is using a proprietary google rcs which is not official, not a standard and they can shut it down in 2 years when they get bored

Let me help you with some knowledge, or better - just read it yourself. If you do not want to read, long story short: You are completely wrong …

The only reason I want Apple to implement RCS or to open up iMessage is so that I don't have to see posts of Americans talking about how they're forced to buy iPhones because of iMessage anymore. So weird how people in the US want to lock themselves in like that instead of using a cross platform messenger app.

hey google, fix the "would you like to switch to chrome" pop up and shut the eff up.
That’s actually what made me star t to resist Google. I went to do some maintenance on my Dad’s PC. He had installed chrome because it installed itself with some other software. When I deleted chrome it seemed that everything was urging me to re-install it. It was beyond annoying. It was creepy. I switched from Google search to Bing or DuckDuckGo and have never looked back. No gmail accounts. No Google photos. YouTube is the only thing I can’t avoid.

I use iMessage because all of my friends use iMessage. I have friends in other countries. All but one uses iMessage. I’m not going near anything Facebook or Google make.

or write via whatsapp or any other messenger
It is the same story - again. Apple was the only company that refused to switch to USB-C.

And, when you read the article, it also remains the lone holdout to implement RCS.

Apple hates open or common standards, cause standards or compatibility violate its „lock customers in, lock competition out“ guideline.

This no longer matters, the rest of the world uses Whatsapp or Wechat, NA is the odd man out.

Google is trying because it would benefit Google

So what? Apple is blocking it because it benefits Apple. There's no reason for us to apply a double standard here.

As a user, my question is do I want improved out of the box messaging regardless of which phone the other person is using? I'm not sure why my answer would be no.
