LOL. I find it hilarious how so many people can argue over why such and such phone is better than another. In the end all that really matters is whether you like it or not. I bought an iPhone 3G the first day it came out and ended up giving it to my girlfriend two months later because I really didn't care for it. I felt the plan was way too expensive (and that was with a university discount) for what it was. It's a great idea and I'm sure it fits the needs for many people but from a cost perspective it was totally not what I needed. So I reverted back to my el cheapo $30 a month Sprint employee referral plan and continued to use my outdated Blackberry Curve. It takes crappy pictures, crappy video, has a somewhat decent audio player with 3.5mm headphone jack, and makes/receives phone calls. For $30 a month, I can't complain.
But all of that changed recently. I finally stepped back into the Smartphone arena and picked up a Samsung Galaxy S on the T-Mobile network. 500 min, unlimited txt/data/nights&weekends, free VOIP calling via Google Voice, tethering, great camera, great 720p video, great audio player, and it's only costing me $60 a month. After my girlfriend learned all of this she went out and bought the same exact phone with the same exact plan. So instead of paying the $80 a month for her iPhone 3G, she's now paying $60 a month and getting more out of it.
Of course, we are two people out of the millions who are using Smartphones. Our needs obviously are not going to be the same as everyone else. But for what we do, this is the best solution.
Oh, and screw AT&T. I can't stand them. When Apple can finally start selling their phones on other carriers then the iPhone vs Android war will really begin.
