Same issue with Instagram. It has no setting to turn off location tracking, it was removed a long time ago from the sertings app, but every new city I go to or country (I went to a city in Germany), instagram suggested ads and contents (videos and photos) from around the areas I visited. It’s unbelieveable that they are allowed to do this! I do not give permission for them to track me where ever I go, apple turning a blind eye as usually to the ‘big players’ (google/Facebook) letting them do whatever they want. I feel sick to know Facebook is tracking me, I love instagram but never had a Facebook account and now I’m manipulated into seeing ads and being tracked. Disgusting company.

Google and every other company does it. You don't need any fancy "Location Services" to get the location of a web client. You just need an ip, and ip's are REQUIRED for a web connection. Do you really think a company as large as Apple doesn't track every connection to its servers in some way? The only difference, perhaps, would be that Apple doesn't "share" this information, but honestly we have no way to tell.
You’re conflating several things.
1. Location SERVICES is an iPhone setting that controls access to location data. You can limit it or turn it off per-app or globally.
2. Location HISTORY is a Google feature which logs your physical location history, and which apparently continues to do so after you use THEIR option to turn it off.
3. Of COURSE a mobile browser needs an IP address. But,
4. Apple doesn’t track it’s users.
5. “it’s servers”?! So you’re saying that all outbound mobile iOS browser traffic gets routed through Apple servers??
6. Google’s entire business model centers around gathering information about you and then monetizing it.
7. Apple’s isn’t.

Google is so creepy. So morally ontusee.

It’s what worries me about Apple’s crappy software and the recent hardware slide. I don’t want to have to use Google stuff. But at some point, Apple’s quality will just get to shoddy and then the privacy trade-off will be worth it.

Truth hurts, huh? First thing you have to do on an iOS device is sign in before you can use it so everything is tracked to iCloud. On Android and Google services it's optional if you want to remain anonymous.

I believe this is wrong as of the last time I tried about 3-6 months ago on iOS 11. You can avoid signing in to any Apple service on iOS, but it isn't obvious. You have to follow some of the "I don't have iCloud" or "Skip this step" or "Set up later" options that are less prominent, and it eventually lets you in. Once in, it's then possible to log in to the App Store only so you can still download apps while keeping iCloud disabled. It might offer to log you in to iCloud at that point but simply decline.

I'd be a very vocal opponent if Apple began to force the use of iCloud, but though they made it less obvious that's still not the case, fortunately.

How do they do this on iOS? If I never give an app permission, now does it access location services?

What's concerning is the amount of information Google tracks on you even if you don't have any accounts with any of their services. And that page that lets you restrict the amount that it collects, well you can only access that if you sign in with one of their accounts! This point about tracking "non-users" was brought up in the Facebook privacy scandal. How can users who don't even want their services choose not to be tracked when they're tracking everyone anyway?

You are Google's product. They will find every convoluted unethical way to continue to record your location and personal information even if you think you turned it off. Welcome to "surveillance capitalism".

Google, "Hoop 1, Hoop 2, Whahahahaha! They'll never figure it out... adding more hoops!"

I deleted what little Google activity I had, and deleted my gmail accounts a while back. Google can take their privacy rhetoric and go pound sand.

Still wipes the floor with Apple Maps and I need to use it.
I will stick with Apple maps and Onstar. If one of them can't get me where I need to be, it wasn't meant to be. I refuse to Google.

Screen shot or BS. I'm talking about forced sign in on a new iOS device before you can use it all and see the home screen.

I was honestly pretty diplomatic considering your language to the other guy, but I'm choosing not to engage any further on this. It's not my job to prove this or anything for you. I stand by my claim, the community can judge whether it is accurate (it is).

You will of course need to completely erase and set up as a new phone to do so, so it's not something many people do, but I prefer to install major new versions of an OS this way (and used to test beta software) so I've had a lot of experience in going through the process. It was still possible as of recent versions of iOS 11. I certainly hope it remains so for iOS 12.

An alternative to google search for users who value their privacy in this day and age, should try duckduckgo instead. Google is an evil company and I'm sure they're a company that has deep ties with the shadow government like most other owned and operated corporations out there. Instead of depending on Google for mail, use Apple's instead.

Privacy should be a big concern for everyone this day and age, we're slowly losing our freedom and rights. We all need to stick together and do something about this. Definitely educate our younger generation, which are easily getting drawn into this habit.

Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, most of these sites are under control by the shadow government. People should've woken up a long time ago about this stuff. Sad that there are still a majority who are still asleep or just don't want to know what's really happening in this world. You guys need to stop believing everything you see on the media and TV these days. That's a propaganda tool for the shadow government to brainwash and mind control the masses. I pray for those people who are easily misled.

Exactly. I cannot fathom how people can use Google services anymore. All their services have decent alternatives (yes even search).

Now they’re are double dipping: ads/tracking and premium prices on hardware... Do no evil my ass.

Ahhh, remembering a simpler time, and Google's quaint moto: "do no evil"

You claim someone is wrong and they ask for proof via a simple screenshot and you run away? Sounds like you're back pedaling.

Collecting the location information by using the data from cell towers even with the location services turned OFF, thus telling the end user YOU WILL BE TRACKED NO MATTER WHAT.

And now this...

If Apple did this, people would be already in front of their doors with pitchforks and torches.
Google has been getting away with so many crimes basically since its inception.

But, they will not get away for any much longer.
I think they will keep getting away with it because people really, really like free stuff. Their whole business model is built upon that fact. The reason people hold Apple to a higher standard is because Apple's entire business model is built upon consumer trust and being a premium brand. People expect when they pay more to not have to deal with this other BS on the side that people who use Google products have come to accept. It's a personality thing, which is what a lot of people don't get. If you're of one mindset then you pick the one that gets you and bash the one that doesn't. However I still think that Apple has the moral high ground when it comes to things like this. They'll be judged on the right side of history while Google (and Facebook, etc) is leading us down a path that threatens the free world itself.
