It’s not going to happen especially in the United States. Folks in here pretending as if the 16e isn’t going to sell better than the pixel.
I think brand loyalty is less of an issue at the budget end of the market where price is more of a deciding factor. I can see a lot of younger people drawn to this phone by the superior Gemini AI features.

It's amazing how after switching to all Apple computing back in 2006 and buying the first iphone and every premium iphone model since then how Apple has steadily declined in my own personal view. It's even more amazing at how this site, who used to be the most steadfastly defenders of everything Apple, has also steadily followed that suit.

I recently switched back to building my own PC rigs like the latest i9 RTX4090 beast. It keeps pace with my Mac Studio Ultra in Lightroom, Photoshop, and every other productivity app/program I use.

Looks like I am not alone in the view of the almighty.

Well, not everyone. (That's more of a UK sort of claim, isn't it?)
No. The EU regulations are not targeted at any one company. Same goes for the U.K. I think it would be illegal to do that unless a company was seriously violating the rules or abusing their market power.

The vast majority of young people in America want iPhones. Non of the AI solutions has penetrated the regular consumer market beyond students using it to cheat. Especially considering most Americans buy their phones in monthly installments. In competitive markets outside the United States I can see the Pixel having a better chance with consumers. I know my mother and sisters are more likely to get the cheapest iPhone to replace their current iPhones then learning android and buying a pixel

Isn’t ProMotion basically table stakes at this point (I’d include MagSafe too)? No new iPhone should launch without either.
You would be surprised how many consumers don’t understand and or don’t care about a high refresh rate phone. Every time I try to explain it to people or try to show them the difference they still don’t get it. People in a MacRumors forum think the average consumer has the same wants and needs as them lol.

I know that used to be the case years ago but I’ve not seen any market research lately to suggest that is still the case given how much the competition has improved.

Americans are not using AI? I find that very hard to believe.

I said this a couple of weeks ago with the 16e…the pixel 9a is going to release for cheaper and be the better phone all the way around. Some reacted with a laugh emoji while many agreed. Seems today that we can all see that Apple dropped the ball on this one because the Pixel 9a is definitely the better value. I’m hoping with the next release of the 17e, perhaps there will be an increase in features and decrease in price to go toe to toe with the Pixel 9a

I’m sure there are plenty of things the 16e has that the average consumer wouldn’t say they want or need (if they even knew what the tech was). It’s Apple who decided ProMotion would be differentiation, which was probably fine a few years ago but at this point should it still be used to differentiate?

The most recent study has 87% of gen z own an iPhone with 88% said an iPhone will also be their next upgrade. Like I said the pixel has a better chance in other markets then the USA

Yet I bet you the 16e will still outsell it

The EU rules apply only to entities doing business in the EU with respect to that subset of their business. That would not be everybody.

The reference to the UK was about the Investigatory Powers Act, supposedly entitling them access to the data of any user worldwide.

Can you provide a link to that study please.

The pixel main competition is other android phones not the iPhone. The market has to work harder to differentiate. The pixel like as a whole still has an upward battle to win the regular consumer who sees galaxy phones as the android default.

Almost all my friends either never bought iPhones or now have switched to Samsung or Pixel phones.

Siri is so bad now, it's worse now than ever. So many restrictions - why doesn't it remember I always click allow location or whatever else. My best friend could delete background people and objects years ago in photos and it must've been intuitive because he has no clue how anything works. 2 of my friends have the Samsung fold phone and love it. My work is all based on google apps, gmail, calendar, meet. I would say 95% of our patrons use gmail and 2% use iCloud. The rest still use aol emails (our average Patron age is 70).

They may, they may not. But the real cheese isn’t in selling the hardware, it’s in selling services and having access to users data in the form of buying habits, movements, and preferences.

How do you think Zuck got sooooo rich? It wasn’t selling phones.
Zuck doesn’t own Google.

I think it’s a legitimate question if the argument is Google is selling this for $499 because they don’t care if they make money off it or not.

That certainly used to be the case but I’m not so sure now. Google have definitely pitched this phone to take users away from the iPhone.
