Totally. Plastic back, old version of Gorilla Glass on the front, slower charging. Build quality matters.
Yeah, I’ll never understand why Android users act like those things don’t matter - some people want to spend their $600 on a phone with longevity, support and build quality. Others want to tick as many boxes as possible feature wise and will compromise details like that, that’s Android and it’s doing fine in the market too.

I’m wondering why this story is even a thing. The Google 9A is delayed already. Sounds like the ghost of Samsung past has reached into Google. A massive production issue has hit components.
From Google "a component quality issue that's affecting a small number of Pixel 9a devices"

That's not massive. They just decided to wait on preorders a couple weeks while they ensure its ready. A rushed product is always a bad product.

The iphone SE will probably have better resale value in a few years than the Pixel. The iPhone-as-an-app feature for Mac OS is very useful to me. Don't mind paying $100 extra for that, not to mention that I would pay that much for Google to NOT access my phone data.

I've never used, or cared about, resale value as a point when buying a phone as I never trade or sell my old devices; usually hand them down.

The nice thing about Pixel phones is you can install Graphene or Lineage and skip Google and Apple, altogethor.

Google today introduced the Pixel 9a, its latest lower-priced smartphone. The device is launching in April, and it will compete with Apple's new iPhone 16e.

Google-Pixel-9a.jpg

In terms of specs and pricing, the Pixel 9a tops the iPhone 16e in at least four ways.

First, the Pixel 9a's 6.3-inch OLED display is larger than the iPhone 16e's 6.1-inch screen.

Second, the Pixel 9a's display supports up to a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and content, while the iPhone 16e is limited to 60Hz.

Third, while both the Pixel 9a and the iPhone 16e are equipped with a 48-megapixel main rear camera, the Pixel 9a also has an Ultra Wide camera.

Fourth, the Pixel 9a starts at $499 in the U.S., while the iPhone 16e starts at $599.

Of course, the Pixel 9a runs Android, which is simply a dealbreaker for many iPhone users who prefer the Apple ecosystem or feel too locked in to bother switching platforms. But, increased competition is always good to see.

To learn more about the Pixel 9a, read Google's blog post.

Google releases another piece of garbage and a few people like it. Android is not as functional as iOS and really is a security nightmare, due to the lack of security.

It's not always the case, but with Apple you often pay more to get less, hardware-wise. And it works for Apple because its customers are ready to pay extra for the brand and its ecosystem. That's why Apple is so profitable. But that's also why Apple will never dominate the market, and I guess it's fine with them because it's part of their strategy: if Apple products were for the mass market, they would lose their luxury image and Apple couldn't charge as much. It's like Mercedes-Benz or Four Seasons Hotels: they don't want to cater to everyone.
Actually Apple's hardware outperforms with the optimized operating system. Android has to have higher specifications to overcome the limitations of Java in Android.

Educate yourself. This hasn't been a problem since like 2013 when android really wasn't long lasting and smartphones were all over the news and had a cool factor.

This argument is garbage. Buy an Android and use it for two weeks and you'll realize how out of touch your post is. even something like this and use it for a while.

Article left out another important stat.

iPhone 16e weight: 167g
Pixel 9a: 186g.
Wow. Hefty

Thats the same (187g) as my iPhone 15 Pro! Those extra 20 grams are huge. Best weight phone I ever had was the iPhone X, and that was 170g, and the weight difference is very noticeable.

idk I think they made it because they realized they can charge corporations (aka phone for employees) because of them being enabled by current economic conditions which allowed them to raise the price by like 30%. For the average consumer this phone is ******* for the price. Especially in the EU where you add taxes, see cheap internet plans, and have to worry about Chinese phones and EU legislation.

idk, if I was a corporate and buying a phone, i'd buy the $100 less phone. For a thousand employees, thats a $100,000 in savings.

What about OS updates? I heard you are left in the dust after 3-4 years. No more updates for your android device.

Doing fine? Android's the biggest OS on the planet, I'd argue the only reason iOS is still a thing because Apple fans choose to go a different route for variety perhaps.

Most flagships these days are promising 5 years of OS updates, Samsung's doing a Google & matching their 7 years (major) updates policy. For the really popular models there's custom ROM's which can be updated for years on end.

Actually, Apple sells iphon 13 (and 12) in India as a premium "super power" phone (visit amazon.in for verification) for around $450. Support for the OS will last till max of 2026. So, we should be asking Apple whether the OS support questions too.

Unfortunately, people in India are enamored with the brand and more of these phones are sold than iPhone 16. In fact, many believe they have gotten Apple Intelligence after buying an iPhone 13 there.

OS support issue is a two edged sword for Apple.

The headline is clickbait.. most of those 4 features are not reasons the Pixel tops the Iphone...

(1) A 0.2" larger screen is not "better." Is a 7" screen even better? What about 8" There are tablets smaller than this (see amazon).

By that rationale, I should just forget about anything labeled a "phone" and just use my tablet for everything, because it's screen is "superior" right cuz it's "bigger" ?

(2) The refresh rate of the screen, some people seem to care about, but is a total non issue for me. I have high refresh turned OFF on my ipad pro, because I simply don't see a difference, and want the extra battery life (and I am EXTREMELY sensitive to the soap opera effect, and work in photography and notice things like subtle color changes).

(3) And the price? Paying an extra $100 for iOS is a bargain. So those are all moot points.

But where the Pixel *IS* better is two areas the article ignores:
The Pixel's battery is over 25% larger.
The Pixel has ALMOST no (well, a very tiny) camera bump (Toms Hardware calls it the best camera bump since the Iphone 6, which I remember had a small protrusion).

Both of these are very welcome changes. That said, the only phone which might woo me from Apple (particularly after being disappointed at the new 16e price) is the upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VII. It's going to be priced at $1,000+ but with battery life that lasts days, a headphone jack, SD card memory storage at a fraction of what Apple charges, and great cameras and build quality. Android spies on you, but Sony's model uses a stripped down version. And I've seen some disturbing privacy things from Apple lately too.

It's not that deep.

My dad's phone (a fairly old moto g60s) works just fine on Android 12. Which btw, still gets tons of third party support. One thing I find interesting is older android versions still working great whereas a three year old iOS version is basically eol (no, just because apple still sends an update here and there doesn't mean other apps will work on it).

Because Google are known for following through with promises? There is an entire website dedicated to Google killing everything it develops
ok dude just stop bringing up irrelevant arguments. Android 12 and up work just fine and I'm not sure why you keep using the software update argument as a silver bullet. It's not like apple has a great track record in terms of delivering on promises.

Wow. Did you not know Android is made by Google? How are comments about Google not relevant to Android? And what has Apples track record got to do with Android if you are so set on keeping this on a narrow path. What a joke… Geez I hate toxic forums.

And when you falsely say I 'keep bringing up irrelevant arguments'" I assume you’re talking about someone else.

Maybe I have set it wrong, but a family member Android phone doesn't even have a built in PDF viewer. Another weird aspect is that you have to have a 3rd party sms app!? I thought SMS is standard in all mobile phones since like 1998. that was a weird concept for me.

Not sure about the situation in India. $450 is expensive for a 3 year old phone given you can get a cutting edge Pixel for $500. Another thing I do not get is how those phones are made and sold for $700 new then in 3 years they are cheap enough to sell for $450 with profit margin. This shows the markup is huge between manufacturing and sale price when new.

-Moto g60s was released in 2021 same year as Android 12, it should run it no problem nothing amazing here.

-What you mean 3rd party support?

-Do android phones get the latest release of Android from a central place or does each manufacturer have to keep up his own version of it?

-You old Android 12 might be working but security patches and malware is something to keep an eye on. Not sure how it goes in the Android app world but usually apps won't work on older OS versions, only to a certain extent.

Yeah, and iOS is made by apple, and we live in a free market that's actually not that free, and so on.

This is not a narrow path, irrelevant arguments is you fearmongering about androids security when it's not even very exposed to systemic attacks, and those who do usually also affect iphone users since they're scams, malware, data stealing etc
