Oh look, the auction has ended and the page isn't available any longer.

Do you smell a scam? :)

Possibly the legitimate seller had their account hacked, or possible an illegitmate seller sold lots of stuff back and forth between dummy accounts for low dollar values to build feedback (I didn't look)

Who knows.

There were only two available at that price. I see that he has a couple other Macs up for auction but it looks like he normally sells t shirts.

This is a great deal.

I got mine for 1300 cash on Craigslist. It was brand new and was not stolen.

don't listen to the nay-sayers here, they are just jealous they paid full retail. i paid 1600 for my new MBP after the CB and rebates, and another 165 for applecare after cashback, and i have the laptop here in hand, brand new with valid applecare. just always remember to purchase on a credit card just in case

The only way someone could afford to do this without losing money is if the computers are stolen. Here in the UK, possession of stolen goods is a criminal offence so I hope you enjoy your time in the clink.

So that would mean that in the UK the only way you should buy used goods is if you absolutely know for sure they weren't stolen. So how do you prove to someone that what they are selling on ebay wasn't stolen? What if you walk into a mom and pop shop that bought stolen stuff? You go to jail for shopping there? I hope you realize how ludicrous this sounds.

Unless lawmakers in the UK are complete fools, I would assume the law states you can be jailed for "knowingly" buying stolen goods. Just because you found a good deal on ebay doesn't mean its stolen. Theres no reason to believe the merchandise is stolen. After cashback deals and rebates, I bought my MBP for just under $1500. I bought it from amazon.com so no it isn't stolen. I could sell it for $1600 on ebay and make a small profit.

I'm leaning toward the naysayers and I paid just under $1500. I used a legit microsoft cashback program, and I bought my laptop from amazon.com, a reputable online and official apple reseller. I didn't have to wait 30 days to recieve something that is readily available. There is no shortage of MBP's so theres no reason you should have to wait 30 days.

How much time does paypal give you to file a claim? If the limit is 30 days then you're going to be in trouble and that means paypal won't cover you and you will have effectively been scammed.

The price sounds good, good enough to make you scratch your head and wonder. The "30" day wait period should set off all your alarms though.

Think about it, what logical reason is there to make you wait 30 days? The only thing I can think of is if they know Apple is going to have a massive black friday sale.

If anyone here thinks there is $850 profit on a $2500 machine for this guy to reduce the price this much, then I've got multiple bridges to sell you. :D

Seriously show a little brain power over your greed. Apple doesn't make that much profit on each machine, let alone a reseller. It's either a scam or stolen goods. Either way you won't be seeing a machine on this.

Good luck to anyone who bought.

^ from what I've read on this forum Apple make around 30% on each machine. I mean they give 25% off for the ADC membership and still make 5% , that's why they have 25 billion in cash in the bank ;)

Anyone know how long you have to file a claim incase the item is never shipped? :(

45 days after payment. Full value is covered.

I emailed Ebay about the seller's account. They said, "There are no indications of suspicious activities". I also contacted the seller via Ebay Message to confirm the listing.

You guys missed a good deal.

Let us know when / if you get the machine. That will be the only way to know for sure.

From my past experiences with paypal's protection services, you will only get back what they can recover. I've had disputes for $400 and was only returned $100, as well as $800 was returned $65. So buyer beware for sure!

Plus if for some reason the seller closes their account (since it is a nice chunk of change), the payments would have cleared for them, and you are sorry out of luck.

I think there is simply too much at risk here.

Good Luck!

they are still listed, I would not touch that with a ten foot pole, :) Also Ebay i thought , need the sellr to have the items in his possession?

All Sales final NO returns!

I also purchased a Macbook Pro from this seller as a pre-order. I purchased the MB471LL, the 2.53ghz version that sells for $2500 from the Apple Store. I paid $2000 and after Live cash back it will come out to $1800 - quite a deal!

Of course I was skeptical, but PayPal has recently updated its coverage policy in a positive way and the seller's ratings are incredible. I also confirmed the model and condition with the seller and he confirmed it almost instantaneously. Ten of these were sold and I look forward to receiving mine. I'll be sure and update the forum once (if - as I know many of you expect) I receive it!

dont u have to buy two?

I would be more than happy to hear that you got the machines safe and sound. We also hope that you do not happen to know the seller by any chance :p

Do you really not see how this guy is doing this? Its called a ponzi or pyramid scheme (its just a small one!). He obviously has multiples listed so all he is going to do is keep selling them at this price buying a few every month and sending them out, meanwhile he has sales from 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5 days ago so he has all the money in the bank and it just continues like this as a never ending cycle.

Im almost positive this isnt allowed on ebay....

A Ponzi scheme can only go on for so long if each transaction is a money loser for him. This guy has tons of great feedback, for computers, iPods, Canon DSLR's, etc. If you sell 3 MacBook Pro's today for a discount, you will need to sell 4 next month to cover the actual cost, then 6 the next month, etc.

I don't disagree that the price seems too good to be true (although Live.com cashback plays into it, and MS/EBay/Paypal is footing the bill for that one), but at some point you take a calculated risk.

I feel that it is more risky to deal on Craigslist. You show up with cash and get a rob at gun point. Happens all the time.

There are reasons to think this is a good seller. Lots of positive feedbacks with some high dollar items, account since 2005, quick response when contacted, Ebay confirmed the account is in good standing, Pay Pal protection for the full cost, my credit card online protection. That's better than most sellers on Ebay.

Listing meets Ebay Pre-sale policy:

Yes, but this means he has to keep going forever. Eventually when he stops, the last people in get scammed otherwise he loses money right? I'd hate to buy from this guy without knowing if you are going to get caught in that last round.
