dont u have to buy two?

Although the extra line on the listing says that, it also says in the item description it's ok to buy one. I have confirmed it with seller and he sent me an email two days ago confirming my shipping address.

It's hard to argue with a PowerSeller rating.

No it's not. If their account has been cracked then any scammer could be getting the money and selling nothing. Also you need to look at what they have been selling. It they have been selling T-shirts for 5 years, then suddenly start selling expensive computers for way below cost, then it's a scam powerseller or not.

But look at his feedback. He's gotten great feedback for a lot of expensive stuff- computers, iPod Touch's, cameras...

Usually the hacked accounts are easy to spot. Another huge tip-off is when they ask you to contact them through different email address, and not through the 'contact seller' button on the page.

This listing has none of those suspicious marks.

Looks Legit to me

This looks legit to me.

In two years when I get my new Mac it will most certainly be off of Craigslist. Yes, you have to be cautious, but there are good deals, and no shipping charges.

Good luck getting your great deal :)

This particular one may be perfectly fine, to be honest I have not looked at their feedback. I simply wanted to point out that a powerseller alone doesn't guarantee safety.

No matter what though, I would never bid on something that is readily available but they won't deliver for 30 days. There's just something very fishy going on here. I just don't know what it is for sure.

A deal breaker to me, more than waiting for 30 days, is what if the MBP turns to be defective out of the box  Apple will do nothing unless it is a major issue since you are out of the 14-day return/exchange policy.

You are covered by AppleCare. You can't return it to Apple anyway, that's only if you bought from Apple.com or Apple Store.

well, since you arent purchasing directly from apple you would have to return to the reseller anyway. and you are protected (theoretically) by paypal and your credit card.

wont that be a witch if Apple really does drop the prices right before Christmas? I have had more people ask me about this and I have been telling them Apple doesnt go on sale. Watch me be wrong.

Is there really a chance of this happening? It would be plausible with the economic crash and all but Mac sales have supposedly been unaffected so I very seriously doubt it.

Fact: you can't get a new MBP for $1400.

As others have said, the 30 day waiting period is also fishy.

Anyone willing to throw $1400+ in the air for such a shady listing is pretty reckless.

Since Apple ships the MBP and many items directly from China, can it be the fact that the items are stolen in China? He probably made a deal with someone in China thats willing to sell to him at an unbelievable price. Maybe the 30 day wait is because the items are arriving via a ship. lol.

Many powersellers on ebay have suppliers in China. I recently bought a brand new 8GB ipod nano for $125 shipped that turned out to be fake. The seller apparently got screwed by his supplier in China.

His pre-ipod sales, the seller has 100% FB and has an ebay store with 1000's of items. Now this seller is banned by ebay.

maybe this one will turn out to be similar?

Did you get your money back?

The seller you bought from only has a score of 65 prior to be removed.

I just returned the item, so not yet. I should be expecting the refund any day now.

not if its a grey market item.

i'm just interested to see if indeed these are grey market, the buyers find the OP and demand a refund or worse. Considering how many problems there are with the late 08s.

edit: oh sweet:
"WE DO NOT PROVIDE A RECIEPT WITH WHOLESALE ORDERS! IT IS AT THE MANUFACTURERS DISCRETION TO PROVIDE WARRANTY SERVICE WITHOUT A RECIEPT, PLEASE PURCHASE A WARRANTY THROUGH SQUARETRADE IF YOU FEEL YOU NEED MORE COVERAGE."

no proof of purchase! awesome..

Yeah, that is just too much risk.

I bought both of my MacBooks and lots of things from Ebay. No receipt is normal on Ebay.

sure, used macbooks from other people who have purchased it "legally" or other legitimate sellers. I'm not saying everyone on ebay is illegal. There are however, grey market items on ebay for sure. I'd be willing to check the serial#s when the OP gets em.

i'm guilty of buying grey market. If you know what you're doing you can get good deals. However, computers are so problem-prone that i would not.

the problem with grey market is that Apple can deny warranty service. As does many other companies.

yes, and also by purchase date. Apple keeps track of when you purchased the computer when you buy it legally via retail store or online.

if these weren't even purchased legally, then who knows? Might not even be in the system as a purchased computer.

I'm somewhat confident that you will get the MBP. The legality of the item on the other hand though, hard to say.

I've seen people buy brand new high end computers in Mexico City for a quarter of the price, most of them have no idea that they're stolen, but they are.

I'm not saying this one is stolen, we don't know, anyone's free to sell whatever they want at the price they want to.

To the OP,

wasn't your intention to resell yours? If these are not legit, can you imagine the trouble that you will put yourself through with selling it?

I've always bought my computers second hand, and with the understanding that I will be reselling them at some point to get another second hand model. That way, I never have to pay full price for a machine, and the cost of upgrading my previous model is not that great. But I do have to pay attention if the one I get is legit, because of the trouble that I can get to if I have to resell it.

If you plan on keeping it, and using it until it breaks, that's one thing. But reselling it is another.

Be careful!
