Congrats OP!
Pretty soon I will be driving soon too and I am very excited because I probably will start taking drivers ed pretty soon. Here in North Texas you can get your permit at 15 and your drivers license at 16. It seems as if you have some pretty high demands for a first car. Sure you want a two door, leather seats, and under 5 year old car, but I wish you luck finding that in a price range a young driver can afford. If I'm lucky I might end up with my mom's 1997 Altima. It's not a bad car though! :p:apple:

haha, I'm probably setting my standards high cause i'm always in my friends brothes SS Cobalt, and it's soooo nice.

I know i'll end up with an old piece of junk, but I can always hope and window shop.

ahhh...I've put my test off for months...I took it once, but got a 74(didn't study)

I need to take it soon, but I've been busy/lazy.

Gees, it sounds so much harder here in the uk :(

I'm a learner driver, preparing for the practical, theory, hazard perception and car maintenance tests.

For a first car hopefully i'm getting a heavily-used-60,000-miles-on-the-clock Ford Ka (1998) or inheriting my brother's Fiesta. I love the look of the Ka, and its fuel economy is relatively good for an older engine. Oh, and manual of course :)

Don't get a big engine! As a young male driver you'll be screwed on insurance  ....plus the added cost of more fuel for larger engines...

tip: just drive... start out by driving down the street/around the neighborhood, then try short easy drives to the store then work your way up to highway... just always drive. 1 your mom/dad will like it that they don't have to drive and 2 you'll get a lot of practice. My friends who failed the road test never drove with there parents due to lack of experience... so just drive
ooo and watch out for trees, mailboxes, and curbs. ;)

I had gotten my license when I was 16. I am now 47. I still remember my test! It was very nerve racking at first until I got behind the wheel. I did fail my first one though, I was told it was because I DID A ROLLING STOP! I don't recall doing that at all (thought this when I was first told of it). The 2nd time I passed it!
I was more afraid of the parallel parking than I was anything else. (did that beautifully both times). :D :p
Tip for the day: Always come to a complete stop. I was once told it only takes 3 seconds to do that. good luck on your road test. ;)

i managed to speed on my road test like 15 MPH over the limit and still managed to pass :D

Down here, you can get your permit at 15, and license at 16. It may not be smart, but we like getting things done earlier. :D

Yawn. In Alberta permit is at 14 and license at 16 with at least a year of driving with a permit. Fun fun fun. :D

make sure you're on a steady schedule with driving. i'm currently not, and still trying to find a way i can get driving lessons. i'm hoping to get my driver's license before the end of the summer, but i'm not sure, i've been trying to get on a schedule for nearly three years now.

You can get your licence so early. In Western Australia you have to be 16 to get your learners permit. You have to be 16 and a half to get your second phase learners for which you need to sit your practical driving assessment. Then you have to do i think it's 25 hours of driving over a period of at least 6 months though i think that is being increased in the near future to 125 hours. So you have to be at least 17 before you can drive on your own though you still have to show red "P" plates meaning you can't drive between 12a.m. and 5a.m. and even if your over 18 you can't have any alcohol in your system. Then after 6 months of having red "P's" you can get you green "P's" which you have to have for another 18 months and you still can't have alcohol in your system.

I was extremely happy when I got my learners permit at nearly 17. I had attempted to go for my permit when I had just turned 16 and I failed it :( I was so discouraged it took me nearly a year to go back. I did pass my driving test the first go :D Can't believe it's been nearly 7 years since I got my permit!

I'm a learner driver, preparing for the practical, theory, hazard perception and car maintenance tests.

I found the theory and hazard perception to be straightforward. A lot of the questions are just common sense. I would recommend buying this. If you do the mock tests on there it is exactly like the real test. I did abotut 4 hours of mock exams and I passed with 48/50 on the questions and a similar amount on the hazard perception.

I should hopefully be having my practical test before christmas. I'm not as young as most learners so I can probably afford a slightly nicer car than most, but I'm not sure what I want yet.

Here in New South Wales it is 16 you can get your L's, 120 hours of driving and then a driving test you progress to red P's (once you are 17). Have to hold them for minimum of one year until your 18 until you get your green P's. Then you need to wait two more years on your green P's until you can get your full license, making you at least 20.

Here is Michigan you can get your permit at 14 and 9months. I am 15 and a half and I still have not taken drivers ed! (lol thanks to Mom)

All my friends are getting their learners (they're all turning 15) around now. I'm like one of the youngest kids and my 15th birthday isn't until May! So i still have plenty of time to gawk at my friends'.

But my parents do let me drive their cars in a parking lot! :p

Here in Tennessee, you can get your Learners Permit at 15. You have to be 16 and have had your permit for at least 6 months before you can get your license. Living in a small town is relatively good, as the test consists of: Turning, stopping, lane switching, and parking (any kind.. just stopping and putting it in park I guess). The whole thing takes 10 minutes max. I got my permit a year ago 6 days from now, and driving at first was awesome, but the awesomeness wore off after a month or two. Now I'm excited to get my license, Oct. 22 @ 9:30AM! :D

driving is easy imo. For your behind the wheel test, just drive slow. I drove at 25 mph everywhere even in a 45 mph zone. Got yelled at but I passed.

Now I'm onto motorcycles :D
