I'm a guy. I like gold. End of story.
Yeah!
Haters gonna hate!

I also left the Apple store after playing around with one in disbelief how much hype the gold iPhone could generate. I also thought it looked like white gold to me, more champagne, very light kind of gold, absolutely not worth waiting for weeks to come for it to be stocked. I'd be damned if there was silver version available and not gold if I walked out of the store empty handed.

As far I am concerned, there are two colours, black and white. White just happens to come in two versions. I will always prefer black to white. I don't really look at the back of my phones, when using them. I was actually impressed that they made the 5c with a black face.

I have a lot of friends and colleagues with iPhones. For whatever reason, I rarely see white phones outside of my wife's. I got her a white 4s so I can tell them apart around the house. I do like the grey back on the phone and prefer it to slate.

That all being said, I have a black 5s headed my way next week. It was my first and only choice.

I give Apple credit for making such a subtle change to the black phone (minimize scratches apparently) and white (gold vs silver accents). It's created a whole need breed of hype. ;)

Same here, I ordered the Gold 64GB and i knew it would be subtle but not that subtle. Today was the first day i actually looked at it in person at the apple store. The last couple times there i never looked at it.

At first i picked it up and played with it for a bit and i thought it was a silver actually lol. The only real way to really tell it it apart is to look at the back or the ring around the home button. The ring around the home button is the more bold gold accent on the whole phone. The sides are barely noticeable, you could pass them off as silver to someone who is a moron. The back is the dead give away, although it really still not that bold of a color, which apple most likely wants to avoid.

The main reason i ordered the gold version though is I like the look of the ring around the home button compared to the silver or black. It just looks really nice. Other than that i will never see the rest of the phone as it will be in a case

Wait a minute, so people aren't impressed because the gold phone doesn't look bling, bling shiny gold? But I thought that's the reason people hated the idea of a gold phone in the first place?

It's not a super bright color but it's not as washed out as it looks under the apple store lights. You need to look at it in normal light to get the proper color. Personally I love the tone of the gold. It's not bright, un apple like. If you think about it, the silver really is a washed out light silver too. It's just that we are used to seeing that color on all apple products.

Everyone prefers a different color. I like the silver model, and the gold is nice too. The space grey is boring. Just a blah color.

I totally agree. I settled for the space grey on launch day and then picked up a gold the next day. The grey is BORING but I'm loving the gold. Very classy looking.

Saw all three colors today at the Apple store as well. The white/silver one gets my vote.. very sleek! I still prefer the black iPhone 5 to the 5S, but it doesn't look bad either. I definitely wasn't a fan of the gold, but can't complain about having more choices :)

I am a guy and actually like the gold phone - so I ordered it on launch morning and received it on Tuesday. Plus my wife always gets the last year phone when I upgrade and she really likes the gold so I have her set up for next year when the 6 arrives. In the meantime, I will enjoy it. That being said, I think all the options for the 5S are excellent. I like the slate and black bezel of the 5 better than the space grey, but that is a non issue at this point.

I still want the gold.

Many many stated early on that he/she will get the gold.

Even if others are not impressed, that's a matter of opinion. The fact of the matter is, there are 3 available colors and Apple shouldn't create an artificial scarcity. Gold should be available for those to choose or pass. Not to buy the space grey because it's the only remaining option due to unequal shipping.

Would have it alot better if they really made it into the actual gold color. The current one looks more like light bronze to me....

I had the same experience today, based solely on pictures I have been searching for a gold 5s since launch day and just wasn't having any luck.

Finally this morning I was off so I went and lined up at the apple store just on the off chance that they might have some. They didn't. While I was there I figured I might as well get a good look at it to see if I needed to settle for another color.

When I got in the store I got disappointed because they only had silver on display and then I went "wait those two look slightly different" I was staring at a gold and had no idea. It is such a subtle difference that it honestly lost some of its appeal and made it a much closer decision between silver and gold. I hopped on Best Buys website found a store close by that said they had the silver and stock and went and bought one. No looking back now I am happy.

Silver is the best color... especially with the new touch ID button.

I like the fact that they chose not to make it a bright obnoxious looking gold.

This. I actually like the Gold 5S and I probably would've ordered Gold if I had known that's what it was going to look like. I was afraid it was going to be this gaudy, blingy monstrosity that I'd be embarrassed to put in front of me at work and in public, but it's actually very tastefully done.

I'd say it's the best looking of the new iPhones. The Space Grey is a step backwards in my opinion. The slate was nice due to the black metal band but now with the way the grey looks if say it's the worst of the 3 new models. Just looks so plain.

The Space Grey I have mixed feelings on. As a previous owner of a black 5, I definitely see why they did it: nicks and dents and scuffs are harder to notice on the Space Grey, while they're glaringly obvious on the Slate/Black model. The whole reason I went silver/white this time around was so that those scuffs and nicks wouldn't be so noticeable.

Not that I'm regretting going silver... I like it. But if I had been able to see the other two colors, I probably would've spent more time trying to decide which of the three I wanted to go with.

I went to the Apple store today to get a new cover for my space gray 16gb 5s. While I was there I looked at the ONE Gold iphone they had on display. At first I thought it was silver. Then after looking closely and holding a silver next to it, I could see the difference. This thing is not BLING. It's a very subdued, almost white gold color. I was thinking about switching if the opportunity arose, but not now. I no longer feel like I missed out, the space gray is a prettier phone. JMHO.

So you would have preferred gold BLING? That would have been nauseating and cheesy. Thankfully Apple kept it classy. Feel free to buy one of these though *Gold chain, gold teeth and MC Hammer pants not included*

I'm one of the ones waiting for gold and after seeing it in person the other day, I'm sad that I didn't go with silver. I had a white 5 and love the white front, so I thought I'd go gold just for something different, but I now really prefer the silver. Sigh.

Just return it and get what you want :)

The only thing that is ridiculous...is this statement. The gold is a fine option for anyone who likes it, it's just a phone.

EricE

This.

I'm so tired of color of phone = gender association

I was selling a phone to a guy and told him all we had was white and he verbatim looks at me and says "I'm a man, I need a man color".

I said "yes I realize this, it's just a phone, don't let color threaten your sexuality"

Him and his buddy started laughing and ended up getting it anyways.

what many of you miss is that some of us prefer the black phone irrespective of what the back looks like. The screen's contents (for me at least) tend to have more pop nestled in a black frame vs. white. Hence, I have always chosen a black phone, ipod, etc. All of my flatscreen TVs have a black frame.

Tired of people assuming that because someone got a black phone, they settled. Apple makes more of them because black demand is greatest for a number of reasons.

That said, my wife and sister prefer white phones because it matches their purse, etc. They don't care about screen contrast and value style more than I do.

Wait a minute, so people aren't impressed because the gold phone doesn't look bling, bling shiny gold? But I thought that's the reason people hated the idea of a gold phone in the first place?

Thats kinda stereotyping the Apple users.

Space gray is by far the most boring of the 3. iPhone 5 slate black was much sleaker. Colors for the 5s are a bit strange to me, no plain white or all black .

i'm not saying that color isn't important, b/c for many people it is. But the reality is that the majority of people use some sort of case for their phones, and you cannot see the back nor the sides at all.

Apple's new cases, which are very nice, cover the back and sides and the only thing that you can see is the front of the phone. And of course, the little colored ring around the home button depending on the color that you bought.

So for me, I got the space grey, b/c I knew that I would have a case on the phone.
