BZZZZZT wrong answer. That was NOT what they had in stock, one other store supposedly DID get it in stock and sold out. For 2500 dollars you should at least know what you are selling.

I am super unhappy right now. Two xp machines dead in a week and my wait for a macbook pro continues.

Seems like some cross communication or something. As I said, when Tysons called me around 11 AM today, they said they had gotten in a 2.16 matte and that was it, but that they did expect to get some more in this afternoon. I'm hoping they'll have some stuff when I get there tonight.

Hmm, I think I regret going with the 160 now.

Just called to see whether I could change my order. "Sure, just cancel your order and place a new one." Great. 😡 If my machine is not here by the 2nd I will have to wait 3 more weeks for it. It's iffy as is; receive by date is the 3rd. But many seem to be shipping early, so my fingers are crossed.

They also would not tell me anything beyond what the order status web page says. No information on where it was in the build process or anything.

I'm within distance of a few Apple stores, but evidently they only carry the 120GB drive "standard configurations"?! Honestly, what percentage of buyers will not opt for the 160 or 200? I would think a definite minority. 120GB is out of the question for me.

Ahh, I see. Well, hopefully they'll still have some left when I go by tonight. I need to go by anyway to return my current MacBook.

I have to admit i'm still trying to decide between the 2.16 and 2.33 models. I think I'd be pretty fine with the 2.16 glossy (I originally had been planning on matte, but after having a MacBook for a week and a half and using it in a number of lighting conditions, I am fine with glossy).

I really wish someone who already had a 2.16 could answer what the X1600 128MB in it is clocked at, and how it does in 3DMark05, etc.

Okay, I got it from Apple.dk (has already shipped) and will get insurance from edbforsikring.dk. Fona's all risk is better (and cheaper) but my local Fona didn't know about the new C2D and I've heard great things about edbforsikring.
3 years is about 2200kr and 4 is 2600kr - I can also chose theft, but that's expensive and will only cover break ins. And my normal insurance covers that.

What will you be using your machine for?

Mostly webdesign and graphical work... but i will also game on it.. once every 3rd week or so i visit my girlfriend in Århus (i live in Esbjerg), so ill also be using it on the train there.

Really, I think the 160GB hard drive is the sweet spot. I wouldn't regret the purchase at all.

How are you people getting yours shipped so fast? Mine just shipped from Shanghai, China, and won't arrive until Wednesday. What gives?

I ordered a stock 2.33 15" Matte
I ordered it about 20 mins after the store went back up on Tuesday.
I paid for 2 day shipping.

I'll be pissed if the people who waited until thursday to order were given a 1-day ship option (2 day was the fastest when I ordered) and are getting them today.

Also, I'm in Michigan, so its not like I live in Albania or something.

The 160GB drive is definately the sweet spot. It's the fastest drive they offer for the 15", and it's right between the 120GB and 200GB drives in storage capacity. It's more than enough for me. I intend on running OSX and Vista on my MBP, so I opted for a larger drive to ensure that I'd have plenty of space. Also, the hard drive is such a pain to upgrade in the future so I figured I might as well do it BTO.

OK, thanks for the info. But did you partition your drive as suggested in those links? The numbers there suggest that you should be able to arrange for ordinary usage not to take any performance hit. I'm not sure I completely buy the analysis -- there are a few unsupported assumptions -- but it makes a reasonable case.

Ordered my C2D MacBook 2.16GHz

I placed my order for my Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro. Upgrading from a 15 inch 1.5GHz G4 w/1GB of RAM, and ATI 9700 graphics, 80 gig hard drive.

Purchased the 2.16GHz, 2GB of RAM, 160 gig hard drive configuration yesterday morning online. Shows my order shipping on Oct. 31st and arriving Nov. 3rd. I tacked on the 2-3 day shipping though.

I wonder if Cupertino has these things on display at HQ's store? I've already checked Stanford and they're not expecting them till next week and I can't speak for Palo Alto cuz I haven't been there yet.

It'd kinda be nice to go checkout exactly what I just purchased...but even if I can't...still can't wait for Nov. 3rd!!!

A chinese restaurant around here has a menu item that includes "chinks" of chicken. They have probably printed 10 different menus over the years, and they always have that little error in their menu. I am 99.999% sure they have known since the first printing and at this point think it is just funny/memorable to the people eating.

Since you're local, can I ask you what restaurant that was? I'm always on the lookout for a good chinese restaurant, especially since one of my favorite local ones (Forbidden City) moved to a smaller takeout-only location.

No, I didn't do that.

I don't know, if you really really regret it, you can cancel your order or whatever, but I really would be pretty happy with a 160GB 5400rpm drive.

When did your estimated delivery date say on the FedEx webpage?

Oct. 30, on my Apple shipment notification email. I don't know what it said on FedEx now that it's been delivered, though. Hopefully you get yours soon! I got mine at about 9:30AM and am calibrating the battery now. Too bad I won't be able to use it since I've got things to do tonight. 😎

Yeah, I read that. I think "snail's pace" is an exaggeration. Also, again, those tests do not reflect performance when the drive is partitioned as suggested in the links I originally referenced.

All laptop drives are slow, this one is just even slower. I know the 200GB is PMR- I was pointing out the 160GB specifically to show that it is comprable to the 160GB drive for the MacBook Pro, whether it is the Seagate or Hitachi model.
