Yeah, that's why all those 4"ers are selling like crazy. You'd be surprise what a 15% increase in size will do to make web pages much more enjoyable to read. You're assuming everyone has the eyes of a 20 year old.

So you like reading on a screen that has lower resolution but is larger? The iPhone 4 has the best screen on the market to read on, because of the retina display.

The reason all those 4 inch phones are selling so well is because almost all Android phones are 4 inches and up now.

This time last year we did have a few more rumors to go on. I would not count on liquid metal this year.

My best guess is that this year we will see a larger screen, an A5, and perhaps more storage. More ram would be sweet but I'm not counting on it.

I think it's funny people are calling it the iPhone 5. I think it'll be called the iPhone 4G or the iPhone 4x.

I think it's funny how you think this. Mainly because you're completely wrong. The iPhone 3G was called "3G" because of the network. The iPhone 5 will not run on the 4G network mainly because it's not supported everywhere. And calling a phone the iPhone 4s is just retarded. The name will be the iPhone 5. And come announcement day, you'll bite your words.

Personally, I think the 2011 iphone will be a minor upgrade like 3GS.

I will still never, ever understand why people call the 3GS a minor upgrade. Is it because it kept the same design as the previous generation? So none of the specs qualify it for a major upgrade? People really need to start understanding that the iPhone 3GS was not minor...

:DNah, they'll call it iphone 4U. U for universal.

You're kidding right? Since when was the 3GS upgrade minor? If you think that external upgrades are "major" ones, then you're sadly mistaken. Don't judge a book by it's cover.
No iPhone 4U buddy (no pun intended).

Totally agree.

as above,

3GS was a major upgrade over the 3G,
the 3GS is closer the the 4 than the 3G, just because it looks the same doesnt mean it is,

and yes it will be the iPhone 5 not 4S/4GS,

why can't people understand this?

iPhone 5 will have the A5 chip and iOS 5, nothing else is for sure, iOS 5 will have a bigger difference than the spec in my opinion,

For me, it was minor due to the lack of redesign. Also, apple contributed to that perception by calling it 3GS; it implied that it's an extension of the 3G, but not a new phone altogether.
I never owned a 3GS. Perhaps that's why I don't perceive any major differences.
Anyway, to amend my earlier statement, the 2011 iphone will not have a design overhaul. The only redesign would likely be the antenna, since precedence has already been established with the verizon iphone.

as far as i know the 3gs is pretty much the 4 but without the retina display and different shape, massive difference to the 3g (if you have a 3g and 3gs next to each other the difference is massive in speed, i've owned 3g, 3gs and 4 and its obvious)

it had to be called the 3gs to get the numbers back in order (after skipping 2 to show it had 3G) so 90% of the normal public could keep up to date on which phone is newest, hence why the next will be the 5

iPhone = iPhone 1
iPhone 3G = iPhone 2
iPhone 3GS = iPhone 3
iPhone 4 = iPhone 4
iPhone 5 = iPhone 5

Pourquoi?

You think they are going to go 4 -> 5 -> 4G? Thats just dumb.

They aren't going to ever have a 4G. There are phones - lots of them - called 4G out now, and many more coming. As we all know, 5 is higher than 4. So therefore, in the minds of the masses, 5 is better than 4, and thus the iPhone 5 is better than the XYZ 4G. No other reasoning is needed.

This is what people mean when they say that anyone will buy an Apple product if the external is different and has a an Apple logo on it..

They called it 3GS because it was the 3rd iPhone, and had to show that it was an improvement. It wouldn't make sense for them to call it the iPhone 3 when last year they came out with the iPhone 3G right? Of course it was a new phone.
Lol, way to judge.

Btw, the Verizon iPhone's antenna is having the same issues as well, and thus the antenna hasn't been fixed.
Chances are the iPhone 5 might be a redesign if Apple didn't come up with a good antenna for the current design.

It'll be called iPhone 5. iPhone 4G will be left for 2012 when both VZW and AT&T get their LTE networks up and running the way the 3G ones are.

No one knows what the next two iPhones will be called, but I gaurantee you that the one in 2012 will not be called a 4G after naming this year's model a 5.

The whole "G" thing confuses a lot of people. I have heard a lot of people call the iPhone 4 the "4G"- either because they think it's on a 4G network or because they are abbreviating "4th generation." Personally I think they should just leave the letters out of it from now on. I think going with the number name system is the least confusing way for the average consumer to understand what the latest version is. People that come on these forums, we know what we're looking at, but a lot of people don't. I have a coworker that just bought a 3Gs simply because it's an iPhone. She thought she would be able to video chat (facetime) with it, even though it has no front facing camera. The reality is, there ARE people that naive out there. They see the commercial and they just go for it without checking in to things first. I think if you're buying a "smart phone" you should be smart enough to check out the specs of both the phone AND the network before you bust out that credit card, but that's just me.

I think they are gonna stick with the number system and call it the "iPhone 5" and I think aside from the A5 the upgrades will be minimal. I am however really looking forward to a new version of iOS. Keeping my fingers crossed that iOS 5 gives us some of what we're missing.

They should name it iAndroidkiller and everyone would be excited about the fresh name ;)
And for shure it does need a 5" 16:9 screen with a double HD screen and at least 6 different slots, conectors whatsoever and a physical keyboard with trackpad.
And a scale. A scale would be overkill and a real new feature.

I love to read those threads about the next iPhone :D I for myself think it will be an upgraded version of the iP4 but nothing to be excited over.

I'll tell you what I'd love to see (but am not expecting), another button on the side. I miss having an extra button that you could assign a task to. For quick launching the camera, or an app, etc.

.
Yep. What good's perfect resolution if you need magnifying glasses to see it?

You have anger issues. I am glad I don't have to live with you.

Don't get your hopes up too high, even though iPhone4 was a big improvement over the 3GS it was in many cases a disappointment, bad antenna design, glass back, minimal OS improvements, no notification system, mediocre multi tasking, 3.5 inch display and so on....

Epic fail? Lets wait to make that call.

I'm sorry, how is multitasking a minimal os improvement and more importantly how is it mediocre? Multitasking works splendidly and without draining battery.

people don't seem to get that you can't keep the same ppi and resolution with a larger screen. if they keep the same ppi, they'll have to change the resolution, which doesn't go along with what apple does. it'll be a pain for developers to not just 2x the resolution. if they keep the same resolution, they'll decrease the ppi, which people will bitch and whine about, even though they have a larger screen. its a lose lose situation, so best case scenario is to keep the same ppi and same sized screen until the next large revision (which i don't think will be the next one).

I have the 3gs and I think it's a great phone!
If the next iphone is 64 gig I'll buy it!
I won't mind it having a dual processor either but as long as the price doesn't go up too much! I wouldn't own another kind of phone.
Anyone know if any of the copy cat phones offer 64 gigs of storage?

I guess they forget that all the other phones don't run an apple os?
Most of those other phones are clunky no matter what new feature they have, they're just playing catch up with apple!

I think it's been the same for every iPhone as well. The box & phones themselves have always just said "iPhone".

I wonder if they'll eventually get out of this naming. Right now its ok, iPhone 4, iPhone 5, but what about in 5-10 years from now?

Do we really care what the phone will be named 10 years from now? I don't. For me, the name doesnt matter nearly as much as the specs and functionality. I am hoping the iphone 5 is better than anything available right now, including the iphone 4.

Exactly. They can call it iSuck and it will still sell millions...

If apple releases a product called the "iPhone 5" I would sure as hell hope it's better than the iPhone 4...
