Seems to work very well here... (Colorado Springs, CO)

FWIW, this will get better as time goes on.. the Navizon software uses a database of cellphone towers and WiFi bases that have been submitted via users with GPS units... So if no one has 'logged' your area yet, you're not going to get any results ;)

If you have a GPS and navizon capable device (See navizon.com for details...) you can help out and get paid for it too!

Man I want to do this!

Maybe next time. I can understand not being able to locate, but hard locking the phone when it pops up the 'cannot locate' message.......

I got this thing working as soon as I read the post on Gizmodo a few hours ago, but when I hit "Locate" it thinks I'm in North Hollywood, California! Strangely, it would have been accurate a year and a half ago when I actually lived there... no idea how it found that location instead of Uniontown, Ohio where I actually am right now!

OH MY!!! WOW!!! THAT PROGRAM CAN SEE IN THE PAST!!!!

;)

Cool in theory, less good in practice. Although even if it worked as intended, I wouldn't say that "within a few hundred yards" is GPS quality.

this may be a dumb question - but does the installer.app and this gps thing work for the ipod touch or are they still working on hacks for that since it's still new. just curious..

Installer.app does not work on the touch firstly because the touch hasn't been able to be jailbroken yet and secondly, who knows if it will be able to run the same way on the touch. This program will probably not work on the touch since it can't pinpoint cellular towers without cellular hardware... unless it can pinpoint via WiFi since it says something about wifi in the app??

seems to identify my location however the directions to and from do not work, or at least for me. anyone else have this issue with the directions area of the program? thanks

This must store IP addresses with locations or something

I just tried it out. My workplace is in North Hollywood, CA and moved from Westwood area a year or so ago. I tried it out while connected to WiFi and it pinpointed my location to Westwood at the exact location we used to be at.

When I turned off WiFi and tried again, it couldn't identify the Cell Site I was connected to.

Oh well. Maybe it'll get better.

this may be a dumb? but does this use edge or just wifi, cuase i have an unlocked iphone but no data plan
thx

Cannot enter username

I cannot enter the username only the password? Strange. Anone else has this issue?

Works pretty sweet for me. I am in Utah. It got the N/S right on, but was off 1/4 mile W/E.

I like the traffic report that is right there, too. I guess that is part of Google Maps, but I had not had occasion to see that yet.

It uses cell tower data, so it won't work with WiFi unless someone has entered location info for the WiFi source. But... the site is updateable, so, in theory, it supports it.

I too get the "Package File Size Mismatch"....maybe it will work for me later...:(

Same error as above that you guys are getting. I didn't even know about this installer.app, it is pretty cool though.

Also have there been firmware updates that cause problems with this applicataion being installed since it is not official apple, like if an update comes out via itunes should I check the forums to see if there are problems or do things seem to be ok with this.

Me too. Its on version 1.0.1, which hopefully means they're working on updates pretty rapidly. Perhaps 1.0.2 will address the package size.

I said package.

"Package file size mismatch" error

And me. Looks like they forgot to update the file size when releasing 1.0.1. Hopefully it will be fixed soon!

EDIT: It works now!

I haven't had nearly as many problems as you all. Maybe my experience might help?

When I signed up with Navizon, I selected "both" (WiFi and Phone) from the drop down menu. Then I checked my location. It was close, but off by a half mile. My iPhone wasn't even connected WiFi at the time, so I went back to my Navizon and changed to Phone (excluding WiFi). I tried again and perfect. Spot on. I don't pretend to know why it was off before or even if what I did helped.

I have been around LA today and it worked all but once. The one time it didn't, I got the 'location not identified' message. And once it froze and I had to reboot.

It looks like it is going to be updated, due to the file mismatch. I have seen that several times when updating on Installer.app. Once they fix that issue, the update installs. HTH. YMMV.

They fixed the file size and Navizon is now 1.0.1

Does it take 7 minutes?

I downloaded the actual Navizon.app from their website, is there anyway to get that onto the phone easily or is it best to wait until the filesize mismatch is fixed?
