I'm sorry. Call me paranoid, but I don't feel comfortable giving out the serial number.

Hey!! C'mon we're all friends here, right?

Whilst you're digging that serial number out, could you just post your credit card details please, preferably the one with the most amount of room left on it, that would be lovely thank you... ;)

The high end mini comes with a Superdrive. Don't hold your breath for a G5 in a mini. I'll expect it to have an Intel processor before that happens, unfortunately.

If that's so I'll wait for the second revision of whatever comes after the G4 on a Mini... Mini hasn´t been around for a long time yet, but I don´t want to spend on an other G4 knowing there are big changes ahead.
I still own an old Mac I bought five years ago... It already had the G4!!! (400 Mhz) Plus, I am still very please with my actual 1.2 iBook... I am waiting.

Another revise before Intel?

I think they didn't mention the upgrade because it is really just a small speed bump and not a new machine.

With Freescale set to mass produce the 7448 chips in October, I think Apple wanted to keep their powder dry and announce a revise with the 7448 chip and maybe a 9250 Core Graphics card in November(?) in time for Christmas. That machine could ride them out til Intel comes in next June(?).

As has been documented earlier, the 7448 will provide quite a boost with its 1 MB cache and 1.7 mhz clock speed. That's what I'm waiting for at least.

Got a new one

I ordered the high end model from the apple store on wednesday night and had it fedexed and I got the new model on thursday. It does contain a dual layer burner.

I'd like to know this fact!

We can confirm that Phairphan [the original confirmer] is a US based recipient of the updated mini :: as for the other folks we're are yet to know...

Here I am on a Saturday evening eagerly awaiting the "official" word from Apple, sheesh I need to stay out longer!!!!

Yes, that would be very nice to hear if someone has not got a new model this week for instance.

I 3rd this! :)

I just have this mental image of 500,000 1.42ghz mac minis sitting in a warehouse somewhere in the UK.

I am so impatient :(

this is day 13 of 14 day return period..... i have to decide today whether to return my mac mini :(

Financially i should send it back and get the latest spec whenever its released but i really cant be bothered to reformat my drive, telephone apple returns, get it collected, wait for refund, WAIT FOR NEW MAC MINI etc.....

Im in the UK so i reckon itll be alittle longer before we see any 1.5 machines.... but i might be wrong as they must be sourced from the same location and its just a case of stock.

Apathy..... what a wonderful thing....

Its my second mac that im using for donkey work so i really cant bothered to change it. When i brought it it did what i wanted it to do so its just the future resale price that im considering. Id only really benefit from is the dual layer 8 x super drive, but i only do monthly backups on it so 20 mins burning or 5 mins dont matter much, its not a critical.

Have i justified my decision not to send it back :)

However, if they announce today ill be on the phone :D

My advice to you is to wait until the end of the day to make your decision. Based on some of the other rumors posted to several other sites, I am not so sure Apple is in a big hurry to "officially" release the updated mini. In fact, they may never "officially" release it and it could be just a simple matter of them updating the specs on the website after they sell all the older machines. Nobody really knows. This much we do know, Apple has admitted that some users are receiving machines that exceed the current specs. If I was you, I would probably return it, pay the restocking fee, and then just wait until the release the new one.

I am going to wait a few more weeks and then I will be forced (my Windows machine is on its last leg) to make a tough decision on whether to take the chance and buy a Mac, or whether to buy a souped up Windows box for the same money and hope that Vista is everything Microsoft says it is..

Personally, I think that if I ordered a BTO Mac mini, I will most likely get the updated one.. But with my luck......

I can't wait

My wife and I have finally decided to make the big "Switch" to Apple.

We were going to buy the mid-level Mini last week, but are holding out for the revision. We can no longer tolerate the slow, virus prone, crashing Dell Celeron computer we bought three years ago.

For our uses (internet, household budget, pictures of our two boys) the Mini should be fine. Right? Are we making a mistake?

Welcome to the Macintosh World! I'm sure you'll enjoy your mini (whichever one you get [wheter you decide to wait or not])

Sounds like you're one of the switchers the Mini-Mac was brought out for. Check to make sure any peripherals are compatible, including your existing monitor. May be worth checking out the Apple Keyboard as the special function buttons are a little different.

I was looking at the Mini-Mac, it was basically what got me interested in Apple again. I do a lot of video editing for fun, although the Mini-Mac could probably do what I want, I've opted for the entry level iMac G5. Just because :)

No, you aren't making a mistake. You will love the Mac.

The mini is a good entry level computer. Are you planning to use your current monitor. If so the mini makes sense.

Actually, we have a new 17" lcd monitor (not Apple, but still nice), wireless mouse, and wireless keyboard. We will probably look to replace the keyboard first.

Does anyone know when (or if) they will make the update available? Also, when is the next OS scheduled to come out?

Actually everybody (here) is waiting for the improved mac mini to appear in the online store.
No worries about the OS, Tiger came out a few months ago, that will last another few days..

Updates are over [12th October] and that's it!?!

FFS!!!!

What happened to the god damn 1.5 Mac mini??

I wasn't really expecting a PowerBook update, but then again I'm being selfish here as I'm not in the market for a PowerBook/iBook/PowerMac, etc..... or indeed another iPod.

I'm in need of ditching my Windows box and the possible update to 1.5 G4 Mac mini loaded with Airport Express, 64meg video, dual-layer writer, etc., etc., was a bargain waiting to be bagged on my part.

Figured today was going to be the day the "silent" update was confirmed but no show!!!!

Me, petty? Hell yes...

There is nothing wrong with the Mac mini, though I would recommend maxing the memory and taking a hard look at the HD.

I use a 1.5 PB at work (connected to a 23" display) and an original G5 20" iMac at home. Both are great and the Mac mini is very close to the PB.

If you take a long term view the mini will let you get settled into the Mac world and over the next few years you can determine if you need something more powerful - which means that the mini heads to ebay.

One thing I did discover was that I need a lot of HD space and have gone with external drives to take care of this. I've scanned in a mountain of old family pictures that I am cleaning up with PhotoShop Elements 3 (bless that healing tool) and I scan at 1200 dpi to make cleaning up easier. Throw in some movies and HDs can get filled rather fast. It's more than worth it though!

Go look at your options in person at an Apple Store or something like a CompUSA. You'll love the pro Macs, but will find the mini a joy also.

Me too.. I took my chances and bought a top of the line mini BTO today with an additional 1GB of RAM installed. Great news, they dropped the price of RAM to $100 (I paid $90 with my corporate discount)..

I really think I will get the new updated model, and if I don't oh well, at least the RAM was cheaper ;)
