I had the same issue - out of the box it wouldn't boot until I'd done an SMC resetFor example the first time I plugged it in and hit the power button it wouldn't turn on

I think there are issues behind the scenes with Navi. If you go outside of the Mac world, the 5700 series has had a lot of complaints leveled against it, where some cards work just fine, others are just a mess. Also, AMD didn't really fill out a product stack with the 5000 series, they are moving on to 6000 before the year is up. That tells me Navi was rushed out and RDNA2 cards might be better.
I had no issues with my own 5700XT that I had, but I've heard a lot of stories about others not being so lucky. Maybe it's an issue with the way the card manages thermals, as there can be GPU hotspots over 90C. Maybe the design was too aggressive, or AMD push the GPUs to their limits in order to be more competitive with NVIDIA.
Wondering why the iMacs with the issue deserve a front page post. But the Mac Pro also riddled with these issues doesn’t. And doesn’t even get a mention.
As far as I know the Mac Pro does not have this issue at all. (but maybe it does with the WX5700; can you provide some links?)
My MacPro has been super solid; although I opted for the base 580x since I wanted to wait for Big Navi. Been running Folding @ home 24/7 maximum CPU usage, while also doing everything else like editing, compressions, etc etc. Even with folding running it still hammers through stuff with no issues.
About the only "add on" thing I did was install TG Pro since my belief is that Apple's fan management is too conservative; with the settings I have in place with TG Pro it keeps everything much cooler and also mostly noiseless.
Mac Pro appears to have myriad issues with the WX5700. One current theory being that they revolve around DSC.As far as I know the Mac Pro does not have this issue at all. (but maybe it does with the WX5700; can you provide some links?)

What issues? I've had my 16" MBP since early February and I use it extensively as I edit in FCP X weekly. Not a single problem.
Glitches no, just a yellow line, always there.

My only suggestion for now would be to try to run geekbench and cinebench and see if you get similar scores to your machine’s caliber compared from the already posted ones to clear out a faulty machine. Besides that, hopefully upcoming software updates could fix some of those.I just bought another Mac for my stable of machines I use in my video business. I now have this machine: View attachment 1662801
The 5500xt also has issues. I'm experiencing dropped frames when running iMovie or OBS and even when the recording from the Quicktime app. The screen, when just showing the desktop, you can see the icons studder as they bounce in the dock. So disappointed in Apple these days. Any recommendations on how to pressure Apple to make good on these issues? If only a couple of us complain there will be only marginal movement on Apple's part, but if we all step up, things will go much more rapidly. I use my machine in a professional manner and I'm just completely losing faith in Apple's ability to create what used to be terrific machines. I don't want to be a beta tester for their experiments. The new in house processors, Apple Silicon, will create machines that are a nightmare I'm sure.
I believe it's the people behind the people behind the phone. I spent 2 hours ont he phone and all the person on the other end could do was follow a book of "tries", to include erase the hard drive and reinstall the system. That was going to take about 45 more minutes we ended the conversation and I called back when the reinstall (as I suspected) didn't help. Waiting to talk to them again for the next step. I'm playing the game to get to my end (I want a system that works properly), but I'm already getting to my wit's end. You are right to infer the service Apple provides is short of nothing.Update on post #137
So the helpfull people from the Apple store (Online) don't believe there is anything wrong with the Imac
and they refuse replacement. They don't even bother to let UPS pick mine up to examine it.
This last week i've spend more time with the "specialists" on the phone than with my own family.
Thats the service you get nowadays from a company that earns billions but doesn't even take time to help their consumers.Or maybe its just the people behind the phone....![]()
