I am gaming in Windows 10 with the RX 5700 XT. Since I got the GPU replaced with a newer batch it has been stable – was giving med sudden black screens and computer restarts before. But sure; when I had a GTX 1070 from Nvidia things ran well too.

One may also wonder why both the Xbox and the Playstation of the current generation and the soon coming new generation is using AMD GPUs, if they are as horrible as you say?
What kind of issues were you having with the 5700 XT? Can you post your system specs? My Sapphire 5700 XT Nitro+ is absolute trash; it crashes to a black screen all the time.

MacPro5,1 (6-core @ 3.33 GHz) with RX 5700 XT. Had no ”black screens” crashes in macOS, but it happened relatively often in Windows 10. Since AMD was listing in their driver release notes as a known issue that some users might see black screens, I thought it was a driver issue all the time.

After about six months of hoping the next driver update would fix the problems I returned the RX 5700 XT to the reseller who were able to reproduce the problem, so they gave me a replacement card.

Haven't had any problems with sudden black screens in Windows 10 since then, but I did in fact get a ”sudden shutdown” in Big Sur 11.2.1 just the other day when I was using Pixelmator Pro. I immediately suspected the graphics card, but since this is the first time it happens (been using Big Sur more or less daily since 11.0 on this machine) and since Big Sur isn't officially supported by Apple on this Mac Pro I don't know what to make of it – maybe it was due to the GPU or maybe something else. Didn't get any crash log, so who knows? 🤷‍♂️

If you're seeing sudden black screens like that (in Windows 10?) I'll definitely return the card. Maybe see if you can reproduce the problem by running the benchmark Unigine Valley – using that the problem was pretty easily triggered for me within 1-10 minutes or so.

Thank you! I'm having black screens all over the place; with and without my 5700 XT, but more often with the 5700 XT. I'm running a Hackintosh though, but it's a solid build. I'm getting black screens in Windows as well, in fact more often when running games (typically either before or after a game during menu screens). However, I don't rely on the card for gaming as I also need it for work with Adobe Premiere and After Effects, so getting the 5700 XT was kind of like a 2-for-1 for seeing how I could use it for some fun as well.

I've got the Sapphire 5700 XT Nitro+... which one did you have?

I have (and had) the Gigabyte RX 5700 XT Gaming OC.

My impression is this problem is due to something on AMD’s side, so it can affect different partner manufacturers. Gigabyte, Sapphire, Asus etc. Probably all of them?

I think the 5000 series GPUs as a whole have been terrible. Looking at forums, there are a TON of people with the same problems. I'd agree; it's an AMD issue. I wish it wasn't because this is my first AMD GPU in around 11 years; I've gone from the GT 320M, GT 750M, GTX 660, GTX 960, 970, 980 and 1080; all have been perfect. I can't believe how terrible AMD has been.

There are a lot of reports, yes. The reseller also said they've had customers return several, but things work fine after they gave out replacements. So it's definitely not something all 5000 series GPUs out there suffer from.

Try to get yours replaced – it's still within warranty I guess?
