@OP it’s great to hear that AASP managed to get a replacement tray for you. I’d have advised against using the OEM tray as you wouldn’t know if it can keep the water out for the IP68 rating

As an update to this, I decided to try a local AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider). They were able to order a replacement tray for me and they were puzzled that the Apple rep over Chat said the entire device would have to be replaced. They (the AASP) told me that was the one thing they could not do.

They said the tray would come in a few days and it is a genuine Apple part. They're not charging me anything, either.
Lucky you, I decided to keep mine after calling the apple store, the guy was like “really?” So I felt bad lol

also, is not that noticeable until you put it facing the light.

It is just a small line, the other marks are just my finger prints

Was that like that right out of the box? I don't see how they could miss it.

I showed to my friends and they couldn’t really see it until I turned up the flashlight. So I guess they could have missed it. It was like that right out of the box. I still feel tempted to go to the apple store, but accepting that nothing is perfect might help me with my OCD lol

Picked up my replacement SIM tray today. They actually had me check it for scratches before I left the store. Guess they are used to dealing with Apple perfectionists, lol.

To make sure that you are satisfied and don't have to make another trip 😜

Did you order a dual sim china sim tray? I think it won't work but why not try to insert a sim in the second slot just to try and see if anything happens.

No, that one that I ordered was a single SIM tray. It still hasn't arrived yet and I no longer need it, anyway.

Hi Duncan,

I have a similar issue to yours. SIM card tray is scratched and I’m sure I didn’t put it there. I really don’t wanna play phone roulette so wanted to see about getting a replacement tray. Apple support told me they can’t find the part and advised that I go to the store. I don’t really wanna show up complaining about a little scratch. I have a couple questions. 1. How did you find an authorized service provider? Would that just be an Apple store? Did you try taking yours to the apple store? Also, does the replacement SIM tray have your device imei etched into it like the original does? Thanks in advance.

The AASP just happened to be in my neighborhood when I moved here 1 1/2 years ago. They specialize in Mac repair, but are an Apple authorized shop, accept AppleCare+ and warranty work and use genuine Apple parts.

I looked at their monitor when they were ordering the replacement SIM tray, and they were hooked into Apple's inventory system (or their inventory system for AASPs), so the SIM tray is a part that can be ordered and should be able to be ordered by an Apple Store too, of course.

Bad news is that the replacement SIM tray has no IMEI etched into it. I asked the guy at the shop if that would cause a problem if I ever had to send the phone into Apple, and he said it shouldn't. I suggested that I should hang on to the old SIM tray just in case, and he shrugged and said it might be a good idea.

I suggest you go to an Apple Store and I would be surprised if they couldn't order a replacement tray.

As for embarrassment that you're coming in for a scratch, just keep in mind that this is a very expensive phone and for that much money you deserve it unscratched.

Thanks a lot for the info. Really helpful. I’ve scheduled an appointment at my local Bestbuy as they appear to be an authorized service provider too. I’ll report back here with my experience for posterity.

So did you ever get this taken care of?
