Ah, at least you guys admits that regular watches get scratched. And everyone knows that ceramics are super resilient to scratches, even Apple’s.

The core issue here is you guys are whining because the DLC was’t as strong as you would’ve liked. Congrats on being the guinea pigs. You found out that a microscopic layer of coating isn’t the equivalent of an otter box for your watch. Wow, you had to be real gullible to fall for that one.

I’d suggest you stick to buying uncoated metal or ceramics like everyone else in the real watch world does.

‘A microscopic layer of coating’? There’s really not that many complaints on the DLC and you yourself do not understand the coating process for the DLC in general, So why are you making it sound like you have more knowledge than others do on this subject? Because I suspect you don’t.

If it really bugs you and is in the return window either return or exchange. However you’re bound to get another ding eventually. DLC is tough but not impervious, a mere knock on a wall should not have dinged it that much. Looks like contact with another piece of metal.

Thats true but in fact i only dinged the wall behind our sofa.. super careful with my watch, even putting a case on it while working out 😭 yes you are right other dings might and will happen. However i expected more durability when touching a wall (wirh not that much force involved)

I got my first ding on mine completely up and down one corner somehow. Probably a table/counter. Super disappointing coming from my old SS 4 to a pristine SS 6. Mine looks slightly more superficial, though? Hard to tell with how close up your picture is.

Sorry for you mate! Can you post a picture of it? I put some sharpie on the damage and touched it with my finger - way better than before. Its not the biggest scratch but it is definitely there. But then it‘s a watch and it will collect even more scratches over time.. however the dlc dissappoints me compared to my older sbss series 2 from years ago

I have the Graphite with ML. If I really look hard, I could find a few minor scratches in the oleophobic coating. I really have to look hard. Nothing I can feel. I have moved away from worrying. It is a watch. It will scratch at some point!

the ML is the best band for me, and the one my dermatologist recommends. If I travel, I will use the sports loop. However, other than travel, I am using the ML exclusively.

I used to be way more anxious about the possibility of scratches. Now I just enjoy the watch.

I dropped the watch, for the first time, a few days ago. No scratches or dents. I don’t know whether the DLC coating contributed to the watch resiliency.

So far mine is doing fine. Despite occasional contacts with walls or door frames (even a door handle) there‘s no visible damage. Satisfied with Graphite‘s DLC. Its predecessor (SBSS) looked as new after 2 years - hope to achieve the same with the Graphite one.

So how are these holding up now that everyone has had them awhile? Any scratching from day to day use or is the DLC working out pretty well?
I just got mine yesterday with a ML so time will tell how well it stands up against my S5 SB SS.

Don’t use Milanese band it scratches the back and sapphire screen of ss freakin $800 watch now I’m returning wasting 50 for a Verizon restock fee and feel like an idiot bc my series 4 44mm was mint condition sport case and band and worked great. To me it was a foolish decision to upgrade for limited improvements

My understanding is the new SS graphite is NOT a DLC? I.e. like the 4 SB was?

Sorry just looking at these new series 6's SS. Maybe I missed this?

I have a 4 SB, and it look new, zero signs of wear. However, I never used a steel bracelet either. I have been wearing watches daily for decades, so unlike most people who are wearing a wrist device for the first time, I'm conditioned to avoid banging my wrist into things, how to take off and put down a watch, etc. Any SS watch will scratch: even good grade 316L has a surface hardness of around 200 V's. That's fairly soft.

Is there any way of buffing out these scratches on a DLC coated watch?
No, it's a high gloss, so if you rubbed it hard enough to effect the scratch, the finish would be damaged. It takes a lot to scratch a DLC.

Thanks a lot for making me check the back of my SS (milanese); now I feel disgusting and will clean my watch way more often. 😂

But why are you upset about the back of your watch?

I can get upset with the best of them when it comes to nerdy details, but this is a watch; and it's worn like a regular watch. The wear and tear of a device at your wrist like that is a lot; even ignoring the few times we manage to straight up hit something it will get brushed against all kinds of surfaces, and it will also slowly get sandblasted. And the back having the milanese loop against it… hmmm… well… it's at most a minor detail that has no impact on functionality, and is always hidden unless you specifically don't use your watch, turn it over, and look for things to get upset about… so… why?
