It will still scratch and will more scratch easily then titanium, as its a naturally weaker element. It's mainly an aesthetic preference though as both are incredibly resistant to scratches regardless.

The experience from the Series 5 would say this is not true.

Titanium is has a longer lifespan than stainless steel, but when new, the variant of stainless steel used by Apple is harder than Titanium.

Further in both cases it is the DLC coating which provides the real scratch resistance. Regular titanium Apple watches scratch very easily.

I love the SS Space Black because of the shiny black oled display blends almost seamlessly with the shiny black body, creating an a unibody look that illuminates. I love it. Pretty disappointed to lose that. I’m going to have to check the new ones out in person.

I wear my watch, properly wear it. I rarely take it off when doing manual jobs - DIY, Gardening etc, I’ve had every model of Apple Watch - 1 to 4; always Aluminium and was always disappointed with the wear and tear on both the body and the glass.
I bought Stainless Steel Space Black 4 when I got a particularly deep scratch on my Aluminium 4 after only one week.
Almost 2 years later and my SS has 1 micro-scratch that you really have to look for - it’s incredible how new it looks.

Yep, that’s the benefit of the DLC (diamond like coating). I too moved from aluminum to SBSS for the same reasons.

As I understamd it, the SBTi has the same DLC and thus should be of similar durability.

Is it real dlc coated?

Indeed it is. There’s plenty of durability test(s) on the DLC on the stainless/titanium models and it’s literally impervious. Someone even took a Metal shaving pad and tried to scratch it and couldn’t. If you’re someone that’s concerned about scratches or any type of inadvertent damage, plenty of members will support how durable the DLC really is.

I am on my fourth SBSS model so can also vouch for the scratch resistance of he SBSS. Is this true for the titanium too?

What do you mean by fit? Are you talking about how the color blends?

Yes whether the Space Black Link bracelet would blend well with the Graphite SS watch? I know it is a lighter shade of black than the actual SBSS watch (I currently wear SBSS with the SB Link Bracelet).

I didn’t own the first GEN titanium version, but I did participate quite a bit in that thread and the DLC Was reportedly just as durable as a space black stainless with the DLC.

That we’ll have to wait for when the watch comes out unfortunately but I can tell you with the Space Black titanium watch the link band looks really good.

Any thoughts on which of these two to buy?

I want low maintenance but I also like a dark finish. The Space Black Stainless Steel was perfect for me.

I'm concerned the Graphite might be too light a gray? Or will it look similar to the SB Titanium?

Also is the Black titanium as durable as the Graphite SS? or is it more likely to scuff because of the brushed finish?

great question... I had wanted the titanium but after viewing the graphite I went for that.. I currently own the series 4 SS Space Black and hoping Graphite is lighter as I went with the orangeish sport band for contrast.

I have way too many Apple bands but wanted Nike Anthracite/Black Sport Band with the holes but can't buy only with Nike Aluminum :(

I wanted Coastal Grey Sport Band and Titanium as it looked nice in store.

I beat my watches up at work and this SS is scratch free after 2 years but if color isn't much different than black I'll return for titanium. The extra $100 isn't bad but double the cost of AppleCare+ is ridiculous.

Steel will scratch easily though?
not in Black it doesn't only in the high polished silver does it show micro scratches. The dark SS has a Diamond Hard Coating which makes it scratch free and believe me I work in a warehouse unloading trucks and my wrist takes a beating.
2 years later I don't have a mark I cam see under magnifying glass on case or glass face :).

I don't see any difference between Space Black (S6) and Graphite (S6) and not much difference between S5 and S6 colors either, just save the money and go for the graphite :)

Unfortunately Apples web site leaves us in the blind as their pictures stink and always have IMO. Above looks like exact same cases :)

I just hope the SS graphite looks a lot like Space Grey from before because it needs to look good with the space grey link bracelet

I viewed on Apple web site somewhere they had the link band with same color same name so I hope so as I wanted one

I had the black SS for a year and the black ti for a year and both flawless. I like the feel of the ti better.
thats why I wanted it as I heard it was as good as far as scratch resistance and it shows almost 7 grams lighter... plus something new.... then they showed the Graphite SS which looked Greyer and boom I hit the buy button

Okay so I cancelled my order for the Titanium Black DLC and ordered the Graphite Stainless Steel DLC. My main reason was I prefer the gloss finish versus the matte which looks too close to the aluminum.

Unfortunately it added 2-3 weeks to my order.
