Why not? Do you really think people care what your bag looks like?

Some of you people have way too much time on your hands.

I don't think it's appropriate for business to walk into a meeting with a 'hippy looking' messenger bag, can you do it yes, will it attract business or give the impression I want .... no.

Nor do I want to be running around after hours with a 'briefcase' ...

I don't want to switch bags, as stated I'm curious as to what works for some people as an everyday bag, suitable to carry a 13" ...

Could it be you who has too much time on your hands to lurk around here and pick apart peoples posts and comments? But thanks for your insight!

I've got a Tucano Finatex Small bag. I like how it's quite thin but still has decent amounts of space. With the laptop and accessories you could still maybe cram a book or two in it. Normally I'm used to carrying nothing but keys, wallet and iphone w/ in-ear headphones in my pockets so I wanted a laptop bag that wasn't meant for carrying tons of stuff.

i used to use Booq bags for my old ibook and my last MBP. i really liked their quality.

but then i moved to manhattan portage which i still use everyday. it holds up amazingly well and is expandable in case i want to use it as a weekend bag. the one i have doesn't have padding for a laptop, but i don't bang the bag around. if i wanted, i could put my computer in a sleeve and then into the bag. the one i have is discontinued, but it's similar to this

i've ordered flap over brief bag by schlesinger as my latest bag. i like the distressed leather as i feel it gives a business but also casual look. figure i can use this as a weekend bag as well. from everyone i know that's used this brand they're unbelievably durable and will last years and years.

How about something like this:

Been with me through five continents worth of adventures. Perfect fit for a 15" MBP in a hard case plus looks even better without bloodstains. :)

I will second Jack Spade. For some reason, I have 3 different bags for my MacBook Pro, one from Mountain Equipment Co-op, Victorinox and Jack Spade (Jack Spade is really a normal messenger bag but I use it to carry once in a while). You really can't go wrong. The style/material makes it use for business or just casual.

GQ usually advertises or has Jack Spade in a column, so you might want to read an issue one month.

I didn't know there was a men's brand associated with Kate Spade... that's not bad, although too dressed down for my everyday / work use. I definitely would like to check out their other stuff though, and maybe get a casual bag...

EDIT: Well... that was dangerous... one visit to their website and I ordered a new briefcase. :D

How about this? It's the varick nylon messenger bag from Coach.

Wheres that bag from?

Originally from Eddie Bauer, but they don't sell it anymore. I think it was a limited production run of stuff they used to make in the 30's and 40's. The one I have is the only one I've ever seen, though I have seen it on Heroes used by the Mohinder character.

Shoot, did I contribute to someone buying on impluse? :D I was the same too. I dropped by Holt Renfrew one day and saw one, ended purchasing one online.

I ordered this...

It was discounted from about $350 to about $150, so I couldn't resist. :D

I like to swap briefcases and not use the same one for work everyday, so having another option is really nice.

Some good idea's, many of them are a little slim. I've tried the slimmer Mac Cases but they bulge to easily the moment you throw something else in there ....

Right now I carry 'everywhere' the following:

- 13" MacBook Air
- Power adapter, (sometimes)
- Canon SD 780 IS Camera
- Spare battery
- iPhone
- Wallet
- 8 x 11 legal pad
- Keys
- 3G Internet Stick
- USB drive/SD card or two
- Pen
- mini Leatherman Tool

So I need something that has some width but isn't much larger than a 13" MBA/MBP is circumference so that it's still medium in size.

I'll use the bag for going to work, meetings, socially/visiting friends, working outside on my deck, travel, up at our cottage, on the boat etc etc ...

That's why I don't want an 'all business' looking bag or a strictly casual looking bag ... I'm not interested in switching bags back and forth ... that's what the ladies do, lol ...

It's hard to find a small, yet wide/deep enough 'all purpose' bag for men

I look forward to hearing more ideas or seeing what you're using!

Nice one! I'm really liking the brief! Loving the checkered pattern and I'm assuming it's canvas with a leather trim? I haven't checked the website recently or even know how old that bag is but that would be something I'd buy because it can match/fit really well with my style (preppy - ties/shirts/v-necks) and would work well in downtown.

Nothing wrong with options! For a dude, I have one too many bags (I don't know why) and they're all for the same purpose! :D

that would be a good example of what I'm not looking for!

I have one like that from Banana Republic but it's canvas/nylon with a leather trim. They also have one similar to mine but in all leather (you lucky American Bastards!). Check out the BR site and take a look for yourself.

I'll admit that I glossed over most of the replies so I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but – the 'Considerable Embarrassment' from Crumpler is the best everyday messenger-style manbag you can get.

It's outstanding.
