just use a backpack, everything else is just a glorified murse...not that there's anything wrong with that.

although i must say i'm kinda partial to the aluminum briefcase idea

I use this Booq Vyper Exo M and love it. You can also fit the Vyper M3 sleeve in this bag/case.

Durable, stylish, elegant yet very manly and an attention getter. Goes equally well dressed up and dressed down.

Only downside is a $1K pricetag.

One of the eyecandy, I mean doctors at my new job has one of these. ;)

I'm rockin' the earth colored Damier Geant Petit Messenger Bag myself.

I've had this bag for awhile and really enjoy it. It has enough room for a laptop, charger, some folders, and a bunch of little gadgets without being bulky.

I have and love the STM Small Alley bag

I've had the same bag for about three years now, and I absolutely love it. It's very comfortable, surprisingly roomy, and offers a good amount of protection for your notebook. I routinely cram my MacBook, 2 or more textbooks, power cord, etc. into it. Highly recommended!

I recently purchased this case for my uMBP 15 and it is perfect. The flap covers several inside pockets and there are additional pockets inside the zippered portion. It also features an attached shoulder strap. I would highly recommend this case.

I'm not sure whether they are available in Canada as I haven't been back in ages but these are a couple of bags you may like on the UK Apple Store, which is where I unfortunately live. I'm sure you could find them over there.

Otherwise, if you haven't already, the Canadian apple store website would be a good place to start.

Hope this helps

wow i really like the first one, but i can't seem to find it here in the states.

I use to use a LV Odessa computer bag daily in taiga grizzli brown leather. I paid about $1700, but LV likes to increase prices and I think it's up to $2200 now. They recently updated the design and fixed some of the issues. I fly twice a week and got paranoid that someone would steal the bag (and contents) from the overhead bin because I got so many comments and complements about it. I think the color is different than what most business travelers use so it stands out. It looks sophisticated yet a bit more casual, especially in the brown.

The Odessa was replaced as my daily use bag by a Tumi Formula T Coupe Slim in black (~$450, but discontinued), which just barely fits the 13" MBP, small notebook, slim Sony P&S camera, iPhone, wallet. There is larger version which would fit the 15" MBP and more natural leather color as well. You can get one on eBay occasionally since the entire Formula T line was discontinued. Mine looks almost new after over a year of use and 90+ flights.

When I don't carry the computer, on more casual occasions, I use a LV Andrei bag to carry the camera / camcorder, maps, small umbrella, etc. I can't stand any of the monogram patterns, but some people love them. The leather versions are more expensive but get less attention, which is what I like. A smaller Apple tablet device would fit nicely...

While very expensive for what they are, I find that the resale value for LV is much better than for used Tumi bags. I've been able to sell my used LV for close to what I paid even after a few years of use.

I've also been looking at the Porsche Design White collection, but it's not exactly casual looking.

I would recommend looking into Fossil bags (fossil.com). They have stuff that I think would be perfect. Not too dressy, not too casual. I got the black leather blaze messenger (I think it is a discontinued model) and it is great. Doesn't look like a laptop bag at all, nice pebbled leather that gets better with age. it is one of those bags that look like could have have gone anywhere with you. durable too

Quick note

Someone here mentioned SFBags aka Waterfield. Their stuff is great. It is impeccably made, solid and well designed. Great customer service too.

Top zip bags I think are best ... the flaps on the messenger bags sort of get in the way and add bulk I think.

The flap on a bag also protects your contents from water when it's raining than a zipper. Since the primary use will be to carry your MBP in a non waterproof case, I'd give this a second thought.

I just received my brenthaven Pro 15/!7 backpack for my new 15 umbp, i gotta say im quite impressed, the build quality is top notch, the laptop compartment is top notch, and my vyper m3 sleeve fits in it like a glove, there is ALOT of room for stuff, i haven't filled it up yet, but ill let you be the judge according to the pics, also, in the vids on brenthaven they place their laptops in their bags and drop them from certain heights, and apparently the laptops are 100% protected (zero impact) well i tried it, obviously it was inside the vyper m3 sleeve then i placed it in the backpack and dropped it from nearly 4 feet (average drop) and then i checked it out and there was no dents, booted right up. bag retails for 179.99 US but i got it roughly for 78$. Worth every penny.

It is pretty big, i am a husky guy and it looks big on me. but hey you can drop ur precious goods and nothing will happen, worth the tradeoff imo.

Anyone here using a Tom Bihn Ristretto or Cafe Bag to carry their MBA or 13" notebooks plus a few books, wallet, phone, camera etc?

I'm trying to get an idea if that bag allows enough space to carry extra's ... it looks pretty narrow.

I have one of these for my 15 inch unibody. I've had it for about three years, i bought it for my old PC because i needed a bag quick and it was only thing they had in the local computer store. I used to carry around A4 pads, books, a hard drive, large headphones and a mouse on my way to uni and fitted it all pretty well. With an InCase sleeve on it is just the right thickness for the new unibody macs, fastent the lap-strap and the thick cushion of air protects your laptop from bumps. Its pretty cheap too...

I geuss the only downside is that its not much of a looker...

I have a Large Cafe bag and a 13" MacBook (plastic) in the TB soft shell...with that in there I can fit a spiral notebook and a notepad, plus some junk in the front pocket. Not a lot of stuff, but you could probably fit two smallish books and a wallet and a phone without issue...camera depends on the size.

I think the Tom Bihn sounds a little narrow .... that's the problem with a lot of 13" bags, they fit a MBP or MBA and power adapter maybe a phone, wallet, thin notebook and that's it.

I'd like an inch or two extra for example when I want to bring a camera or something else.

I'd like a small bag or backpack not much bigger in circumference than the notebook itself, but wide enough to carry the notebook, adapter and a few extra essentials so a little extra room would be nice.

Any suggestions? I'm thinking a backpack perhaps because it's less "purse" looking ...

Why don't you look at the Imago? I got mine last week and it's great.
