Just picked up a refurb 2010 15" 2.4 i5 for under $1300. $1377 overnight shipped to be exact. They have some of the higher model high res left too.

Anyone thats still pissy over the 2011 models might look at the refurbs for a great deal.

The refurb MBP I bought 6 months ago dropped $280 today. Pretty good prices, the only thing I feel I am missing is Thunderbolt, although it really won't be very useful until a few months from now when devices are released that use it.

I could care less about Thunderbolt. Its going to be a while before there are devices out there that take advantage of it. When they do come out Im sure they will be overpriced as well.

Personally I think the refurbs are a better deal than the new models. Unless you absolutely need Sandy Bridge, and my guess is that even the people that say they NEED it really dont.

New GFX processor... Damn you apple making me want the $2000+ models!

Thats what I mean. For the high end user, its probably a nice bump in specs and technology for 2011. For the base model buyer, last years is the better deal IMO.

Thoughts?

Not impressed by these updates for the 2011 base 15" MacBook Pro (holding out for redesign/SSD...first laptop). I'll sell it when the time comes. Few questions...

1. Would it be wise to purchase a base 2010 refurbished MacBook Pro?
2. Can I sell it for the same price later or does the refurbish status mess with that?
3. Do refurbish Mac look and work exactly like new computers?

Here's the specs from the Canadian Store...($280 cheaper after this update :))

Very good deals... wanting a high res base i5... hope that pops up. Isn't there some sort of refurb tracker that will send updates? If so I need one of those =)

Refurb 15" April 2010

I want a refurbished April 2010 15" MBP. The site is listing them as 16% off, but I think they should be ~32% off in the next few hours. 32% off on a 15" would be sweet.

How about this:

Refurbished MacBook Pro 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Originally released mid 2009
15.4-inch LED-backlit glossy widescreen display
4GB memory
500GB hard drive
8x SuperDrive (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
SD Card Slot
Built-in 7-hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
Illuminated keyboard

$1,439.00

Save $860.00
37% off

Ummm...WOW.

I still think the newer models are worth going for just for the increased processor speeds.

However, for those users who do not need a top end quad core machine, then yes, last years models are perfectly adequate.

is it just me or did the base price go back up to normal refurb'd prices??

It did that to me too, but showed the correct discounted price in my cart. The site is probably slammed right now.

2.4 i5 15" > 2011 MBP 13". After all, at $1260 its a bargain.

Hell yes it is. Yesterday the same refurb computer was 1529. BTW I ordered mine a couple hours ago and just got the shipment notification. I'll have it tomorrow :)

The items they have in stock are changing all the time. This morning a nice machine that was listed for $1729 went up to $1999.

So they prices seem to be changing all the time.

WTF. Price gouging!!!!
Hehehehe

The same link took me to the differently priced machine.

The problem is that it is hard to tell if some small specs are different.

I cannot recall, for example, if backlit keyboards and SD card slots were in ALL the 2010 15" MBP or not, and the descriptions don't all list that.

so many options. what to do what to do..

Look at what you have today, at your wallet, then click.

Im positive all the MBPs had backlit keyboards and SD card slots in 2010. Pretty sure they did in 2009 too.

I hope you get the right one when it's shipped to you. I think apple's servers are really taking a hit today. Took me 3 tries to put in an order in my shopping cart.

Damn, the refurb pricing is really nice. Just suggest it to a buddy for him to check out. 15" for $1319 in Canada never happens.

No kidding. I do not remember discounts this large last year. I remember like $100 off or something.
