I ordered the base i5 15" refurb with Hi res/Antiglare for $1399 before tax. Really glad to save the money over the new models; I don't need the extra CPU power nor would I notice it.

My biggest thing was the antiglare screen. If the 13" would have offered this, I would have bought the new model.

I sat at my screen debating on this VERY model. Then it went away lol. Guess that will give me time to debate it again before hopefully more stock pops up. Dammit.

The price for this one keeps fluctuating between $1,019 and $1,269. It just dropped to $1,019 again so I pounced. It's actually listed between models in the 1250-1300 range...

but apple store is the only place to get refurbed stuff right?
if buy new one from B&H or Amazon, no tax, would price be similar?

Bummer. I actually posted the same info in another similar thread, and somebody else replied with the same response that they had tried to order it but it sold. I guess I got lucky.

FYI for anybody wondering, I called a local apple store (in Minneapolis) to see what there discounts were for Brand New (not refurbished) 2010 models and they are only offering $100 off. It sounded like there was some confusion on finding the price initially, so this may not be entirely accurate or it may be updated later, but that is what the store told me as of now.

When new models come out, all the clearance systems get thrown into the refub bin, which is odd, but that is why you only see refurbed. That is only on the Apple store.

If you check out other places, you will see that they have dropped their prices dramatically on the older models and in some cases with no taxes, free printers, RAM, bags, etc. it might be a better deal than the refurbed.

I was kind of thinking the same thing, but I believe if it's sold through Apple, through Amazon, I think there's still tax. I don't believe I've seen refurbs on Amazon from a reseller (which would mean no tax)

i dont see significant price drop of older model on B&H or amazon yet.
i don't mind refurbished, but since can only get refurbished off apple.com, I have to pay tax, that will almost be the same if I get the 2011 refresh from a place like amazon where I don't have to pay tax, oh but wait, Amazon doesnt have student discount?

no student discount. Basically only amazon "discount" plus no tax

I am thinking of last year's basic 13 for $929 on refurb store.
I only do photoshop.

I am debating of whether to wait for all of the used MBP's to show up on ebay and Craigslist or buying refurbished.... Ugghhh!

I went for the refurbished. There's no restocking fee anymore so if you don't like it you're only out shipping costs back to Apple. It may be harder to return an ebay purchase and nearly impossible to return one from craigslist.

If mine isn't perfect, back it will go for a refund or exchange. :)

Grrrrr.... I am in a toss up between used and refurbished. I can probably get them used for $100 cheaper + NO tax from ebay or Craigslist. I struggle with the decision!!!!!!!

That looks the same as the one I bought earlier today, except that mine costed $30 more at $1,049. I live in Canada, and the Canadian dollar is currently worth more than the American dollar, so that doesn't make any sense. Is this the one you bought? For me it shows savings of $500 (32%) --> http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FC375LL/A?mco=MjEwNzUwNjg

It's definitely the same computer. I just calculated the dollar conversion, and the computer is actually $50 cheaper when purchased from the US store than from the Canadian store ($1,019 US = $1,002 Cdn)! I called apple to ask if I could just return the computer and pay the American price, and they said I couldn't do that unless I had an american shipping address. With the $50 I could save I can buy a new Wrapsol case

I have friends in the states but it's probably not worthwhile for me to have it shipped to them, and then shipped to me. I may save like $20 in the process but it may end up taking longer. I just can't believe that the computers cost $50 more in Canada :/

Update (for those who care to know) I spoke with apple, and long story short they ended up giving me refunding me the $50 difference! They didn't even validate the the exchange rates. I think it makes a big difference as to who you speak with over the phone - the first rep tried to explain that each individual refurbished model is priced seperately (lol), and the second rep was very understanding of my situation. I really love apple right now, I don't ever remember feeiling this satisfied with a major purchase!

This morning, I tried to get the refurb computer the OP purchased, that is the 15" 2.4GHz i5 antiglare w/ NVIDIA 330M (256 MB). But it was out of stock within minutes. It was definitely the best value.

So instead, I purchased the 2.8 GHz C2D antiglare w/ NVIDIA 9600 (512 mb RAM). It was about 100 dollars more than the 2.4 i5, which I don't understand since it's a computer from 2009.

I would imagine both computers would perform about equally, and since I got the extra VRAM, I'm very satisfied. I saved about 600 dollars from buying new.

I could not see spending that much on a two year old machine with an outdated processor. Congrats though, it's still a nice laptop and that screen is great. I wish I had jumped on the high res this morning when I had the chance.
