I could not see spending that much on a two year old machine with an outdated processor. Congrats though, it's still a nice laptop and that screen is great. I wish I had jumped on the high res this morning when I had the chance.

The core 2 duo is outdated, but it's still very capable. yeah, I didn't get the High-Res either, but I currently have the standard matte 1440x900 resolution and I really like it. I always hook up to an external monitor anyway if I need multiple windows.

Like someone else mentioned, I would of loved a 13 inch antiglare, that was the deal breaker for me. I just can't stand the gloss. Several years back, when I had a 2.16 C2D macbook pro, it was a free option: gloss or matte finish. That made a lot more sense.

Absolutely, the c2d is still very capable. I really had no issues with my 2010 13" except for the resolution. Had they upped the resolution along with the processor I would have been all over it again.

For me, I would worry about longevity of the c2d over time now. I'm sure there will come a time in the next couple years when it isn't supported by certain apps or softwares. I can see the i5 and i7 duals being somewhat relevant still in a few years. I don't see that with the c2d. But again, I'm not knockin your purchase at all. You got a great machine at a great price as did all of us that purchased today (well except maybe for those poor SOBs that bought the 2011 13", they will be upgrading again next year lol)

Sold Out...

Damn, the refurb pricing is really nice. Just suggest it to a buddy for him to check out. 15" for $1319 in Canada never happens.

That base model is sold out. Any chance it will come back?

If not, I'm getting the $1489 one (500GB hard drive instead of the 320GB). I'm ordering it tomorrow morning. Is the hard drive upsize worth $170 more?

Thank you!

not only HD, better processor and i think video card...up to you.

I appreciate your response!

Any chance someone can confirm these differences?

Also, wouldn't it be harder to sell a slightly more expensive Mac down the road? Does being a refurb effect the sale price?

Any thoughts, again please chime in :)

I could care less about Thunderbolt. Its going to be a while before there are devices out there that take advantage of it. When they do come out Im sure they will be overpriced as well.

Not a video editor I guess. I've already ordered Thunderbolt compatible RAID drives...but then again I edit a multicam HD show for a global news network on a weekly basis, so I guess it has a use somewhere!

Nice. I'll rephrase, it's going to be a while before there are devices for the average consumer. I'm sure for video editing and anything that moves large amounts of data at one time that port will be extremely nice. For my use, I can wait on my USB 2.0 ports to move my data :D

From the prices it appears you are looking at the core 2 duo model from 2009. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the refurbs right now. But it's still a two year old computer.

I don't think being refurb affects the resale. I don't think it's harder to sell a higher spec'd model, but don't expect to get the extra money you pay when you resell it. It really depends on the buyer though. The high res screen will definitely get you a few more dollars in resale value. Still pissed I missed out on one... Oh well. Can't complain at all with the deals we are getting.

all these early refurbs will go like hot cakes

Really glad I ordered this morning. My wife tried to get me to wait until tonight, I would have missed out for sure. I'll bet they will have the occasional base refurb come available, but they are probably gone from mass quantities.

The 2009 2.8 GHz core 2 duo is priced $1479 while the 2010 2.53 GHz i5 is $1489 in the Canadian store :D

I think I'm right. I'll go with the i5 (better CPU). We'll see what they have tomorrow morning

Gotcha... Didn't notice you were in Canada. Honestly I would order now if you can. There might not be any left by morning. They are moving pretty fast at 30% off.

Updated my location :p

Anyways, I need to wait till morning as my actual CC is with my dad. He needs to get it from his federal office locker. Sad thing is that I know my number but not the special 3 digit number on the back so my order didn't go through...

The life of a university student with immigrant parents...gotta love 'em ;)

That looks the same as the one I bought earlier today, except that mine costed $30 more at $1,049. I live in Canada, and the Canadian dollar is currently worth more than the American dollar, so that doesn't make any sense. Is this the one you bought? For me it shows savings of $500 (32%) --> http://store.apple.com/ca/product/FC375LL/A?mco=MjEwNzUwNjg

Yep, that's the exact same one I got. Here's the link to the U.S. store (still at $1019): http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC375LL/A?mco=MTgwOTc3MzM

To Buy Or To Wait

On the line with Apple. Refurbished base model is still out of stock but the turnaround is frequent so the rep told me to wait up to a week for the $1319 Canadian model that "Sneaks" mentioned on this thread. First come, first served :(

He said that if I buy the slightly more expensive Mac (+$170) and send it back, I might be hit with a restocking fee. I thought that ended but he was a US rep so I'm not to sure.

Should I pick up the larger hard drive model before everything is sold out? Can I still exchange within 14 days?

Thanks you so much! I appreciate it! :)

If you don't care about the glossy screen, this one is a very good value and I would say to grab one now, before its too late.

I wouldn't wait too long. I wouldn't be surprised to see prices go back up a little bit. I think the refurb i models are selling a lot better than the refurb c2d models did last year.

That's the model I mentioned was $170 more then the base model. I'm ordering this minute. Hope the base model shows up so I can switch my order.

They shipped mine yesterday within three hours if me ordering it. I wouldn't count on being able to change your order.

Mine is suppose to be here by 4:30 today. Can fedex be any slower today?? Lol

I just made my order and waiting for the email confirmation :)

I went with this model...

Really hope it's worth the extra $170 for the extra hard drive space and for future proofing my Mac. Do you think so?

Thanks for help guys! :D

I usually can't justify buying the higher model when they are new, but as a refurb it's not that unreasonable. If that was my only option I would have done the same.

I would say that the i5 is definitely worth it over the C2D if you can swing it. Much better, actually, even at a slower clock.

It looks like the quad i7s are really fast, though.

I'm glad I didn't have to make the choice myself.

Goodbye company-owned 2006 Mac Pro tower. Hello company-owned 15" i7 MBP (highres, antiglare). Ships on Monday.

Very excited. Two weeks ago, there were actual negatives to switching from a 2.66 quad-core Mac Pro to a laptop.

Yesterday dissolved the last of those problems (thunderbolt for mass storage, and i7 4-core for speed)

In theory, I lose some RAM capacity, but I am going from 6 to 8 in truth, so it's all good.

What's better than buying a new laptop? Having your company do it for you! Congrats!

My refurb is supposed to arrive today but hasn't yet--its driving me crazy. Will I get a true repaired refurb in a brown box, a refurb that was a previous return but otherwise fine, or an unopened "new" mbp of the previous generation?

I suppose I'll see soon enough. As long as it works and there are no scratches or dents I'll be happy.
