Uh, yea. I can't wait to see the silicone "cases" that come out for the Pencil. Perhaps they roll on and come in colors. Maybe some will have built in massaging ribs to keep your fingers feeling nice.
I think it's about stopping it damaging other things when you hit them with it or throw it at them.
I think it's a good idea, but it spoils the look somewhat.
The dimensions between the new remote and the existing on is:

Will the remote be available to purchase separately? If you have buddies with out an iPhone and they wanted to play....
No you haven't. When they release one with a wrist strap... then you will have seen it all....
I try to have few buddies that have no iPhone.
Actually, I don't think its too bad. I have an iPhone and when I get the ATV will have the remote, so I can use my iPhone and lend the remote to a friend. Should be okay.
I bought a cheap Chinese silicon sleeve for my Apple TV remote ($2 I think), not to protect the remote (who cares) but to protect my nice wooden nightstand from the sharp edges of the metal remote. Those things are a hazard to fine woodwork.
But $20 is insane for a remote case.
Unless you're planning on getting irate over a game of Asphalt and chucking your remote across the room, I can't possibly imagine a use for this thing...

Probably because the touch surface is made of glass which means if the remote hits the floor.

It's ridiculous. I really don't get why the need to put a case on everything.
