For real? You put all your remotes into a case? :D
All of my remotes don't have motion controls. Once my 2 year old figures out that you can play games with the Apple TV I'm sure she'll be all over it. Should the remote go flying, a case may help save it and or anything it crashes into.

Good point...haven't thought about that yet. But most surely it will fly across the room once it's being used and though will not be in the case :(

I do believe the touch portion is glass, in this case grip and protection is a legitimate concern seeing that Apple would love to sell as many extra remotes as possible. Keep in mind until the apple remote app is updated this is all you can use. I will be getting the new ATV but I won't be buying this case as I choose to wait for $2-3 dollar knock-offs on eBay.

So support for Apple remote is mandatory and devs can add additional support for third party controller, correct? I don't think adding support for Apple TV remote should be a big deal for most games but yeah it may be impossible to add full controls on Apple remote for more complex games. Apple should have come out with a proper gaming controller.

Why must everything with an Apple logo on it get wrapped up in cases, protectors and bubble wrap? People need to baby their things less and enjoy them more.

Up next. Bubble wrap for the Apple Pencil!
I do share the sentiment about putting everything in cases but I have a tile floor in my family room. One drop of that remote onto the floor will crack the touchpad the same way it happened to my magic trackpad. A bumper case would be best...and it should be all but free.

For those who are saying it is stupid; I didn't know it, but the front is made of GLASS!

Sorry bad idea to make a remote out of glass. But it is basically a trackpad. Someone dropped one.

For those that didn't catch the event by Apple introducing the new remote and how it's made of glass, you too can read about your purchase/future purchase right here on Apple's website - http://www.apple.com/tv/specs/ - like a good consumer! :)

It confuses me what type of life some of you have that need to put everything in a case. How often are you all dropping ****?

Ok well that doesn't look very good/ :/

Right now I'm noticing the remote is kind of ... touchy? Easy to press that button when you don't mean to.

With the remotes priced at $79.00, this case seems like a decent idea. I guess OtterBox will probably be launching a Defender case for this, and LifeProof might be working on a waterproof case.

Griffin today debuted its first accessory for the Apple TV, introducing a new case designed for the Siri Remote. The Survivor Play for Siri Remote aims to add protection to keep it safe from scratches and dings when dropped and it adds a non-slip grip to make it easier to hold when playing motion-based games that require a lot of movement.

The Survivor Play, which is made of a soft, textured silicone, fits around the back of the Siri Remote and is similar to the wide variety Wii Remote skins that make the Nintendo controller easier to hold during gameplay. According to Griffin, the Survivor Play was designed primarily with gameplay in mind, adding extra thick grips to make it more comfortable to hold. The case also adds cushioning and protection for the edges and the corners of the Siri Remote, the places most likely to be damaged should the remote be dropped or flung across the room during a heated gameplay session. Because it wraps around the back, the Survivor Play leaves the Siri Remote buttons, touchscreen, microphones, and Lightning port easily accessible.

When it launches later this fall, the Griffin Survivor Play for the Siri Remote will be priced at $19.99.

TV remote made of glass. $79 to replace. They really are determined to make me not buy one of these.

Plastic wrap ALL THE THINGS!

It's ridiculous. I really don't get why the need to put a case on everything.

Well with apple, you know since they like making hand held items out of glass and all, cases now has to be at least considered.

Hey, I found this thread while searching for a good case for the AppleTV remote. It's funny that so many people think it's a bad idea. I would have thought so too, until I bought an AppleTV, and now I totally need one.

I don't need it to protect the thing; I need to so I can use it! That remote is tiny, and very slippery. I have clumsy hands, so I am constantly dropping it. This is particularly true because you need to keep a light grip on it or you'll end up accidentally clicking or swiping something because of the touch panel.

Like I said, I keep dropping it, and it's so small and slippery that half the time it slips in between the cracks in my sectional sofa, so I have to take the sofa apart to get it back, which is a PIA!

So this remote is a nice piece of minimal and magical design that actually FAILS on usability, especially if you have clumsy hands.

The other FAIL is that it is symmetrical, so you can't easily tell if you're holding it backwards or not. It feels the same both ways. I use this in a darkened room, so it's hard to tell by looking at it. I ended up putting a silicon bumper under the front edge, on the bottom, so I can tell by feel that I'm holding it the right way. Unfortunately I don't think a case will change this.
