Grove Introduces Bamboo Backs for MacBooks

Grove makes a number of bamboo cases for iPhones and iPads. Now the company is introducing super-thin (.035") bamboo plates that attach to the back of unibody MacBooks of nearly any shape and size (11", 13", 15", 17").

Grove also offers laser cutouts of a wide variety of shapes that are placed directly behind the glowing Apple logo, allowing users to personalize their laptops even further. The company will even do custom engravings for orders of 10 or more, allowing companies to have their own logos etched.

I've seen these in person, and my initial impressions are all favorable. I saw one applied and removed and it pops off flawlessly. They really are thin, and they look really nice once installed. I also got to see a few of the logos in person and they are all wonderful.

The Bamboo Backs are made by Grove in-house in Portland, Oregon. They'll sell for $29 and ship in 1-2 weeks.

It looks kind of odd to me, but I guess it's OK if it matches your other furniture.

But won't it be annoying when pandas keep chewing on your MacBook? Since I work in an office full of monkeys I had to stop using my MacBook Pro with the yellow banana-scented cover.

Why are more and more Macrumors posts sounding like blatant advertisements? Arn, are these paid placements, or have you been otherwise compensated for the inclusion of such material on the site?

I started to get the same feeling when I saw those power button cufflinks a while back. Due to the convenient Macrumors logo on the cutting board in one of the pics, I would say Macrumors is definitely being compensated in some way.

What doesn't look right to me is the gap around the edge. It makes the wood look like a cheap decal. I think it would look classier if the wood was edge-to-edge across the entire aluminum cover.

It only bothers me if it's unsaid. Arn's run a great site for many years now, I've been on here a decade at least, he deserves compensation. But it should be stated.

It's been said many times, there are no undisclosed paid posts on this site. The only difference is people seem to get offended when they don't personally find the product interesting. People didn't complain about FIFA 2012 coming to Mac or the Disney Toys integrating with iPad, because apparently they found those posts personally interesting.

You where happy enough to comment about how you'd love Shadow of the Beast in an upcoming Amiga Emulator for iOS, when that news story could also be seen as much as an advertisement as this one.
