same problem, 2nd iphone 6+ with the issue, going to call them again to get another replacement. hopefully they will have a refurb that doesn't have the disease...

class action lawsuit filed and more coming.

I wanted to avoid the iphone 7 upgrade and wait for big one with 8. but now it feels like I have a ticking time bomb in my pocket and I'm screwed if it goes off.

apple needs to step up and do the right thing here. or I need to get off the apple train. :(

Exactly how I feel! No problems with my 6+...I'll watch the keynote today but still no plans on getting the 7. I want to wait for the (hopefully) total redesign of the 2017 8/8+....but yeah, we'll see if our current 6's can last this long. It's a problem that seems to just pop up out of nowhere...it JUST started with my brothers iPhone last week and was quoted about 300 to fix. (Apple Store in Cherry Hill, NJ was no help...basically turned him away. That to me, is messed up!) I'm not sure how he personally handles the phone...looking at his past iPhones, some looks like they went through a war...I think I am a LOT more careful with mine. Still, these shouldn't be "time bombs" like you said.

This darn flaw happens with no rhyme or reason.

Only thing I can compare this to...which has nothing to do with Apple/phones...was a mass problem with my Canon DLSR. Widespread "Failed communication with Battery" issue, Canon denied it, I needed to fix it and that was 380 bucks! A year later I saw on YouTube the issue - posted by someone who has no association with Canon - was caused by a a tiny screw that comes loose over time and falls out..a fix I could have done in 15-20 minutes. Pathetic!

My 6S just died from the touch disease. Screen became unresponsive to the point that nothing worked. Grey bars coming down over the whole screen. Now the screen doesn't show anything.

Now that this keeps getting more traction and some class action lawsuits have been filed, has anyone had any success getting a replacement out of warranty? My 6 is getting to the point where it is almost unusable.

I need a new battery. I'm curious if anyone knows what would happen if having the battery swapped out at an Apple Store killed the phone? I'm out of warranty and don't have Apple Care. Would they replace the phone?

The Apple Store in Covent Garden, London refused to do anything other than offer to give me a refurb for £249. I took it to a chain for repair shops called iSmash who repaired it by doing the near microscopic resoldering. It cost me £120, so way cheaper than a replacement or a new 2yr contract.

Only bummer is that it's playing up again. I reckon I've got 24-48 hours until it becomes a paperweight again. iSmash have been very good about it and are taking another look at it next week. Just hope it was a poor repair job, rather than the phone being beyond a repairable state. The phone, despite what that goon at the Apple Store suggested, is not bent, the screen is not damaged and it is a well liked after and cosmetically pretty dam flawless phone. It has expierenced no more than wears and tear.

Fingers crossed!

Theoretically in the Uk, consumer rights can force Apple to do the right thing years after end of warranty

Apple tried that one on me, but in a defensive mode - they said that as I bought the phone from a carrier (in this case EE) they - EE - had an obligation to give me a new phone. EE almost laughed out loud when I put that to them. I looked up the relevant Consumer Rights act, and it's something of a grey area to say the least. I went back to the same Genius Manager in th store and told him what EE said and he just shrugged his shoulders.

Nice

You need to keep going. Tell the store manager that you’re going to write to each, (address the letter to him at his store), and tell them that they have blamed each other and that you have no option but to go to the small claims court.

Happened to my 6 this morning. Listening to music, heard music stop, and when I looked at the phone the screen was flickering gray and went black. Plugging into my Macbook Pro or an outlet does no good. It is not recognized and will not power on. It's a paperweight now.

I'm not getting the grey bar across the top. I'll get the unresponsive screen and rectangular blocks that appear and flicker. Phone hasn't died - yet but I'm sure it won't be much longer.

I was hoping to make it till next years iPhone release but don't really see that happening.

My exact same plan. Am totally screwed now too

2nd repair has failed. Come to the conclusion that only way forward is a replacement. Damn.

I'm in the UK so a class action is not something I can hang my hat on. Neither can I wait with a paperweight for a phone for Apple to admit to anything - if they ever do. Checked to see how much £ Apple would give me form their recycling program. I put my IMEI number in, and guess what? As I'd taken it into the store and they'd recorded Touch Disease against it they offered me £0!

Am tempted to send it in to EE's recycle program and hope it works OK when they assess it

Ah man, I bit the bullet and got a new iPhone 7 (couldn't get old of a 7+ for love nor money) on the upgrade programme. Now it turns out Apple will repair Touch Disease phones for £144.

Anyone know what will happen if the phone in question had a repair attempted by a 3rd party?

Grrrrr

Here in the land of private healthcare, that's called a pre-existing condition. Rule #1: never get something diagnosed, when the treatment for it isn't already lined up.
