Playing with the contrast between past and present, the inside of the accessory is printed with 'Hodiernum'—a Latin word that means 'belonging to the present day.'"
English has a fancy way of saying this too! Behold: Today’s

Hmm. It’s suddenly not so pretentious anymore and gives a somewhat… foolish… impression.

If you weren't a fan of Apple's Smart Case that comes with the AirPods Max, high-end luxury brand Gucci is here for you with its own case for the headphones priced at $980.

Gucci's "Ophidia case for AirPods Max" is an online exclusive that brings "vintage and contemporary together through its archive-inspired design elements. Playing with the contrast between past and present, the inside of the accessory is printed with 'Hodiernum'—a Latin word that means 'belonging to the present day.'"

Gucci says the case is made from environmentally friendly materials, features a shoulder strap, brown leather details, and a snap button to secure the AirPods Max in place. Like many AirPods Max accessories, Gucci's case exposes the AirPods Max's canopy allowing for easy carrying.

AirPods Max is priced at $550, meaning Gucci's case is nearly double the cost of the product it is designed for. Gucci does offer another case for standard headphones that costs $920, but it isn't designed for the AirPods Max specifically.

I love this case, I expect I'll be seeing a few of these around downtown Shanghai too ? ?

You can't buy happiness... I mean money can put a smile in your face and relieve a lot of stress, but cannot buy happiness.

If you have to buy it, it's not a real feeling.
Tell me the pleasure I get from paying for and the peace of having medical insurance are not a real feelings.

Unfortunately most of the suicide incidents take place in the underprivileged poorer communities
That doesn't negate the point. If money bought happiness, the people who had it would be happy, and every psychologist in the world would simply prescribe it as a wonder-fix.

They don't, because it's not.

It’s actually pretty cool buying things most can’t afford! Just remember, there are people that think you are stupid for buying an iPhone!

How is this any worse than this?
Hermès products are, at least, more minimalistic and aligned with Apple’s aesthetic. And they are premium stuff made mostly by hand.

This Gucci thing, on the other hand… others have said it before but it bears repeating: I wouldn’t use it even if they paid me to. And I’m not even talking about using it in public; I wouldn’t use it in private, either. That’s how ugly that thing is.

You see, there are Veblen goods, and then there are tacky Veblen goods. Not all of them are created equally… And then there’s true affordable luxury, like Ulisses gloves, which put even Hermès products to shame at a fraction of the cost. Those who know, just know, and don’t need to flaunt it.

And my point is this. Ugly or not is completely subjective. I happen to agree this is atrocious looking, but there are many people who like Gucci designs. This is for them, not us. Saying it's tacky or ugly or aesthetically aligned to Apple is your opinion. I don't happen to think many of the Hermes bands are minimalistic, some of them wrap around your wrist twice. But that's just my opinion. My reply was more to people that are laughing about the cost, and my point stands.

I have to say as hideous as I think this case is, I’m sure it’ll be popular with the niche of consumer that like Gucci. It’s recognisable with its pattern and people will get enjoyment out of the assumption others are impressed by the accessory I am sure. At £549 it does pale in comparison to the Hermès straps you can buy in the Apple Store, especially the £849 brown leather one. On the whole I think these Hermès straps are quite underwhelming personally and I think you can get much nicer handcrafted Watch straps from independent watch band specialists. Like Gucci though it’s all about the brand and a huge part of the personal enjoyment comes from the wearer knowing it’s designer. Whatever floats your boat I say
