Innovation is creating something new, first of its kind.

As I said, you don't get to redefine the word innovation. You're limiting the definition to make your point which is silly. There is nothing in the definition of innovation that requires creating something that is first of its kind.

Here's Merriam-Webster's explanation of the term's proper meaning and usage.

Innovation, for its part, can refer to something new or to a change made to an existing product, idea, or field. One might say that the first telephone was an invention, the first cellular telephone either an invention or an innovation, and the first smartphone an innovation.

I'm not redefining the word. You're trying really hard to nitpick about a technical definition and ignoring the spirit of my argument.

In any case, we're clearly not going to agree, and that's ok. I think that Apple has gone downhill since Tim Cook took over, and I think they have become more of a follower in the industry than a leader. That's essentially what my arguments boil down to. And you, you think we all need to use the word "innovate" with precision.

Amen. I was banging my head against the wall on that one for a while after getting a Homepod Mini. Apple didn't make this easy to figure out.

I've got my Homepod Mini in the kitchen and would often have the same confusion. I would ask my phone something and then hear the Homepod in the kitchen responding and vice-versa. If you give the Homepod a name/setting in the Home app, you can say things like "Hey Siri, play music in the kitchen." It's not perfect but it does work most of the time.
Our Living Room one seems to think she's the only one. I can be into the Bedroom and say something, but the LR will respond. How does even hear me when I'm not shouting?

A new high-end HomePod and other news in thes speaker department sounds interesting. I missed this article obviously.
But intuition told me to not buy any of the Mini's in the late 2022.

So I'm looking forward to see if there’s any truth to these rumors in 2023?

The worst part about this is that it’s a fairly new problem. I have had multiple original HomePods since release, and currently have 6 plus some minis. Until fairly recently I was really impressed with how, the vast majority of the time, the correct HomePod would respond. However recently it’s like a comedy of errors as they respond at different times (and sometimes to each other).

I'm very curious as well! I think a homepod mini is still a good buy when they have those good sales (I saw a refurbished one for 60) or buying second hand. Mine have been perfect bathroom speakers and let's me use faster smart lights with thread.

Apple is reportedly considering an update to the HomePod mini as it plans a larger push into the Home devices market, which includes releasing an updated version of the full-sized HomePod in the early months of 2023, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman reports that Apple is considering updating the HomePod mini, which was announced in October 2020. Gurman doesn't shed any details on what a possible update could include but states it's unlikely to be anything "super-impressive."

As has been previously reported, Apple is planning to resurrect the original full-sized HomePod after discontinuing it in March 2021. The updated version of the HomePod is rumored to feature an updated S8 processor and possibly a new multi-touch display on top.

Gurman says the new full-sized HomePod is on track for a launch in early 2023, lining up with a timeline set forth by Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Other than an updated HomePod mini and a new full-sized HomePod, Gurman has previously reported that Apple is working on several new products for the Home. The most ambitious project under development is reportedly a HomePod product that combines a speaker, Apple TV functions, and a FaceTime camera into one device.

Additionally, Apple is working on a device focused on use in the kitchen that combines an iPad and a speaker connected to a robotic arm. Gurman expects at least one of these two Home products to launch towards the end of 2023 or in early 2024.

Make it a whole home hub with WiFi, Zigbee and all that. I mean, I *had* to move to Eero for Rang extension, but I would happily use Home Pods for this purpose.

oh, also, a public WiFi channel and a private home-control WiFi channel. (Yes, I have these on my AT&T router.)
