Performance still lags when doing simple things like App searching but crashes are far less than previous 16.x beta releases. Battery life also seems to be slowly improving. Looking to be heading in the correct direction as of Aug 21.
He didn’t say that’s it they are done fixing bugs. He wrote they have finished development. Meaning no new features right now. Just bug fixes.

Beta 6 still has the auto-locking bug so, yeah, not great!! There is a lot more fine tuning needed. I am guessing there will be a day 1 update

Public Beta 4 runs mostly as smooth as iOS 15.6 for me. If Apple fine-tune it a bit more before the public release - it is a bonus, but the latest beta is already very solid, imo.
I’ve had no issues on my iPhone. The only issue on my iPad Pro is sometimes I’ll lose all my Safari tabs. That happened when I updated to the latest beta.

Noob question : what’s the point in releasing betas if it is finished anyway ? 🤔
They’re always several bills ahead internally.
For example, Mark said they were working on Beta three before Beta 1 even launched.
Craig said basically the same thing during an interview right after WWDC, saying that features people were asking for would be available in future builds.
We’ll probably get beta 7 next week, and then a week of nothing, and then the GM on September 7.

In the past Apple has released a product accompanied with a beta version of the OS they found stable enough to ship with. However that doesn’t mean that beta is close to a RC to the public. Something like this could mean the current OS’s in beta cycle since WWDC 2022 are not finished earlier at all and could be released a few weeks later.

Apple engineers wrapped up development of the initial version of iOS 16 last week, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. This likely means that Apple has no major new features or changes planned for the remaining iOS 16 betas and will instead focus on bug fixes in the final weeks before the software update is publicly released.
Nope.
Not all betas get released.
Its likely they are way ahead compared to their latest beta “release”

Of for joy, for joy. What wonderfully delightful bugs will be released in September. Apple’s betas are alphas, and retail releases are betas under the yearly new OS program. 🤪

The iOS 16.0 update, which Apple engineers finished work on this past week, is due to launch in September alongside watchOS 9. Those updates will correspond with the new hardware. The macOS Ventura and iPadOS upgrades, on the other hand, are now scheduled for October (after Stage Manager-related delays to the iPad software) to match the new hardware lineup.
I have to wonder at what point does the legal team start looking Grumman’s direction for leaks? Remember this from last year?

By the time the public release comes around, dev beta testers will already be checking out 16.01 or 16.1. They need to solidify 16.0 on the new iPhones.

Why do i have the feeling Gurman is "allowed" to leak a few things now and then and build hype ?

I
There is a big widget for it, it shows over the battery icon and still shows in the Control Center - it can now be seen from virtually anywhere.

The widget on the lock screen only shows a kind of progress bar of the battery, you can’t see a percent. Unless you use the other battery widget, which is actually awfully designed, it’s really bad.

If Gurman is right, then the next "beta drops" will be the Release Candidate versions. Mind you, I am NOT going to install iOS 16.0 on my iPhone 12 until they release the first bug fix release.

Ok but then why not release the RC now so we can test it the next 3 weeks instead of beta 7 beta 8….?
Because more bugs will be discovered in beta 7… 8. RC is pretty much a final version. Apple just can’t release the final version to the developers and public right away.
