In terms of CPU I think Apple were in a strong position 12 months ago and are in an ok position now. Where they are struggling is GPU and for the MacPro that's probably the biggest issue, IMHO of course..
A lot of Mac Pro users now are not GPU-limited but CPU-limited.

So for some use cases Mac with outstanding GPU performance is not a priority.

So long as Apple has priority on any node process improvements then I see Apple keeping to where they are in performance per watt, raw performance, battery life and other metrics that is important in a world we want to lower our carbon foot print, have cool to the touch devices and have near 1 week battery life

Many industries are being hit hard by massive delays because of zero covid shutdowns in China. A worker has to be tested ever few days BEFORE they can even go to work. If a worker mistakenly drives by a covid hot spot they get a flag on their phone as possible infected with covid - go get tested. Government CCP policies are to blame for the shutdowns. Everyone is paying the price for their handling of the pandemic. Will take years to catch up. Time to move on to more reliable trading partners.
Kind of hypocritical that the same people that were complaining about China being too lax with COVID when it first appeared are the same ones criticizing them now saying they're too strict.

Intel Mac owner here, I am waiting on M2 and skipped over M1. So there are dozens of us out here. The M2 won't be groundbreaking like the M1. So what?

Also still waiting on the Mac Pro release. Gotta see the whole lineup before making a huge decision like this.
Yeah, I'm kind of anxious for them to release the M2 Pro/Max variant of the MBP's. I know it's not going to be a huge jump from the M1, but I'm still rocking my Mid 2012 cMBP, and I skipped the M1 stuff just in case there were any big issues with the first go at a big redesign. I like to use my stuff for as long as humanly possible (which may be evident by me still using a MBP from 2012), so I don't want to buy an M1 machine now when it's already been available for a year and lose that year of having it in support. If I have to wait until next spring, it would be cool if they did get it on the 3nm process, but either way I'll make the jump when it launches.

When you hate a govt/country people will look for holes to poke at.

At least their govt gave a damn about their people not to allow them to test their IQ at more than 1 million deaths.

India, has half that and yet 4-5x more people than the country with the leading cause of death

Well, this is depressing.

If the M2 Max comes out in March, and still isn’t 3nm, that would be even more depressing.

We need more than a different color lipstick on the pig to be a new model. There needs to be a significant increase in the single core mode speeds which will could also increase the multi-processor speeds.

I don't really see anyone crying out for that. Sure, single core speed will continue increasing, but I don't see that driving a tonne of sales.

That makes sense based on the fact that we have no hint that any M2 Pro/Max/Ultra chips are ready. But it's a serious blow to anyone wanting an updated M2 Mac Mini or iMac which seemed like low-hanging fruit that Apple could have delivered much sooner.
I am waiting for the M2 Mac Mini since the M2 MacBook Air released 😭

Seems that M2 pro/max will be 3nm die
Since all the rumors said that 3nm will not ready until November-December, now this being an Spring 2023...its clear Apple wants SoC under 3nm die

Honestly considering the M2 was not as impressive as expected, they should wait for a die shrink. There’s no rush, they’re already way out ahead. Silicon of all things is not their problem.

I understand the chips beyond M2 (pro max and ultra).

What I don’t understand is M2 chips on iMac,
Mac Mini et al. It’s been 18 months on those.

Those will be long in the tooth Q1, coming up on 2 years old.

I’m surprised the M2 hasn’t moved out to other machines besides the 2 that it was introduced on first.

I am not an engineer, but why not just wait until the die is shrunk and call it “M3”?

Right on cue, after Tim Cook literally said so, and another source confirmed...Gurman chimes in with his "news".

How many news articles that picked up that information did you see? How many MacRumors posts discussed it? Gurman is the first news source (that I know) to highlight it so the information has now moved into the mainstream. 242 posts (as of this one) demonstrate that it has now become a common understanding thanks to Gurman.

Lmao, what? Gurman is NEVER the first. That is the entire point of my post. Gurman waits until things are all but assured by multiple actual sources, and then weighs in to codify what everyone already knows. Literally anyone could do Gurman's job by simply reading headlines everyday.

The last time Gurman was the first person to provide news on Apple was when he worked for 9to5mac. As soon as he was hired by Bloomberg, whatever source was dripping info to him dried up completely. Since then he's purely a researcher and commentator. He is not a source at all. He is simply, "I have read all the same things you have and now present my most logical conclusions".

The cheapest Studio is at least CAD $500 more expensive than a decently specced XPS desktop + Studio One 6 Crossgrde license
and significantly quieter with no doubt much faster RAM and ssd's.

Depends where your priorities are really.

Wow so Tim Cook broke his promise. In WWDC20, he promised that the Mac transition to Apple Silicon would be **COMPLETE** WITHIN 2 YEARS. So this means that the new Mac Pro should have been released by June 2022 at the latest.

Ok, even if we give the benefit of doubt to Timmy and interpret his 2 year promise as starting when the first AS Macs were released in Nov 2020, we should still have the new Mac Pro by Nov 2022 at the latest.

Very unApple for Timmy to overpromise and underdeliver. Apple needs to and has always planned product launches way in advance. If those stupid heads in Apple Park can't churn out the new Mac Pro soon enough, then Timmy shouldn't have promised the 2 year deadline (he could have said 3 years instead; no one is going to blame him if the transition is complete in just over 2 years and he promised 3 years). Really shows how unorganized this transition is.

I would not be surprised that China's zero tolerance policy on COVID is the reaso they haven't reported more than 1 million COVID deaths.

An amazing feat considering their more than 1.45 billion.

India has a nearly 530 thousand deaths at more than 1.42 billion people.
Whatever the CCP reports China's death numbers to be, you can be confident that it is higher. Covid was a monster that was unleashed on the world.
