I guess after last year with the MBP and M1s, they were due for an off year? I mean what did we get this year? Spec bumps, price hikes and dynamic island. Oh, and a Macbook Air with a base model that is worse than the M1? Don't get me wrong, I love my 14Pro, and the APP2 are really great, but not the strongest year all around IMHO.
I’d also add buggy hardware and software releases have made this an off year for me personally.

No new Macs for the holidays. But TBH I think Macs aren't holiday gifts as much as phones and iPads are. And those have already been released in time.

Still, I have been holding out hope for something to replace my aging 27" iMac. Will have to wait a little longer, I guess.

Nope. It will take a while to ramp up 3nm volume and Apple will be reserving it for the next iPhone. The next MacBook Air will be the first to get the M3.
iphones always get the ramp up of their SoC begining with May-June. And lets not forget only the pro line will get the 3nm
Mac are more important now from SoC stand point

Who cares about Macs? Im actually a PC person and use mostly windows 11 even though I have a iPhone 13 and a iPad 9.
12% of the market share does...and you will do care when your win11 pc will draw 1000W 5 years from now
Maybe with Dex and Ready for, there is no market for Chromebooks now

You are being disingenuous. "Windows PCs/Devices" is not a single vendor. Mac sales are substantial, making Apple Macs the fourth largest personal computer brand sold. Fourth largest is not niche.

Similarly you are being disingenuous with iOS versus Android. Android is just a free OS, with devices not sold by a single vendor but by dozens of vendors. All iOS devices are sold by Apple.
Agree and i still "amazed" how people even in 2022 doesnt get that
Even in car industry i often hear how good VAG sales are compared to Mercedes....and i always tell them, Mercedes is one vendor and VAG represents Seat+Skoda+VW+Audi etc

Back in 2013 Apple relocated the manufacturing of their least volume Mac, the Mac Pro, to the US.

Apple encountered so many problems such as

- lack of sufficient skilled labor
- lack of sufficient quantities of locally sourced parts
- etc

In other words Apple had to virtually start from scratch to get things done.

They went to the extent of placing their manufacturing/assembly plant in Texas to keep cost low.
I remember. But isn’t this due to a long term issue with manufacturing tech jobs long having left many regions in the USA?

I don’t want to get too political as I know your midterms are coming up, but it’s seems crazy to me that countries like the USA (and mine the uk, which invented the Industrial Revolution) have ceded so many jobs and industries to abroad, which they invented.

I don’t get it. I’m waiting for a M2 Mini. I have a 27” iMac I want to replace. As there is no new 27” iMac I want a ASD + Mini as a replacement. I don’t need a Mini Studio because I’m not doing stuff that’s very demanding BUT I don’t want to buy a Mac that’s 2 years old now (M1 Mini). I can’t be the only one doing this. The “normal” Mini with a larger screen is an obvious replacement choice for former 27” iMac owners.

I get it - the Mini was a niche product… until they killed the 27” iMac. Why do they kill one popular product and then stop updating its replacement?

I thought they released the M2 chip in the MacBook Air too soon. People who wanted the new chips immediately bought them and have no need to buy a new computer. These things should be on a 3 year upgrade cycle, enough time to create excitement for the next one.
Countless people are, at any given time, on their “3 year upgrade“ cycle. Apple knows most customers are not upgrading yearly. So one person‘s year 1 is another’s year 3. That’s why a 3 year release cycle for Apple wouldn’t work. In other words, we’re not all buying on the same schedule.

Apple should be selling the latest chips not 3 year old ones

Macs don’t need refreshing every year anyway.I’d say every 18 months minimum.
The high end Mac Mini hasn't been updated since 2018.

The low end one has - but the GPU is pretty weak and would be a substantial downgrade compared the 2018 Intel model... which is which is why they still sell the Intel Mac Mini.

Seems like now would be a really bad time to buy a new Intel Mac... so I'm still using a 2012 model while I wait for something better. *sigh*

If everything comes true...Apple will have a massive event with Mac Pro, the mac mini(maybe M2 iMac too) and Macbook pros + the Apple VR/AR presentation

Why is it so hard to update the regular IMac with M2? Where’s the problem?
I have a 2012 iMac 27" and I want a iMac 27" M2.

My guess is that the iMac 27" did not sell well.

Another possibility is supply chain constraints that makes it more profitable to have the current mix of Macs.

You are going into semantics here, it’s a niche by volume and overall market share. It’s a reason why Apple gladly does not call itself a monopoly.

Isn't Apple's Mac business just single digit %-wise relative to worldwide annual shipments of desktops/laptops?

In other news: Apple is Not Planning to Release their VR Goggles, an Apple Car or reverse wireless charging on any of their remaining products this year. LOL
Apple Car started in 2018... that's 4 years ago.

Wonder if it will come out before I die.

Actually I think Macs are not as niche as they appear. In the market segment where they sell, which is the high end by unit price, they may well be the dominant player.
