You have a source for this?
Apple has been communicating this at least as far back as 2017.
You use your iPhone as a computer way too much. :p
Yes, not only Apple, but all computer vendors that sell laptops are saying they sell more laptops than desktops. And, it’s not surprising especially since laptops first started outselling desktops WAY back in 2005.
And Gartner estimates that this mobile percentage will continue to increase over time.

It’s not controversial information. And, once someone realizes that this is the case, it makes it FAR easier to understand why Apple would appear to focus more on their mobile offerings (including the first M1 system to ship being a mobile offering). It LOOKS like they’re focusing more on mobile, because they are. Everyone is. Including, finally, Intel and AMD.

Cautiously optimistic as I want to upgrade my base 14" to a 16" MacBook Pro Max. All the M2's have been big duds so far, hoping the Pro and Max verisions are better. The good news is that the M1 Pro's and Pro Max's will continue seeing discounts, so we all win regardless.

Single core will probably be the same as the other M2s, because thats how the M1s were, but I think the multicore improvements will be decently more than the regular M2s. The MBP's fans will also help maintain the performance.

It’s the cheapest Mac, and very consumer oriented, don’t hold your breath for more ports. If you need more, they clearly want you to buy the Studio.
And frankly, knowing Apple, I’m surprised there’s still ethernet, USB A and audio jack.

Or they add 2 ports and increase the price by $150-200 improving their margins.

Judging by the new MacBook Air and base model iPads they don't care much at all about keeping even their entry models reasonably priced.

Your scenario is likely. However the real question is about ports. Now that Studio exists to fill the midrange very well with a bunch of very fast and flexible ports, personally I do not see Apple continuing to make two different port configurations for the future Minis that comprise Apple's low end. So, what ports does the M2 Mini get? My guess (because we now have Studio) is not the full complement that Intel Mini has.

An ancillary question is: how many displays does Apple allow an M2 Mini to drive?
I'd expect an M2 Mini to drive the same number of displays as the M2 Air and M2 13" MBP: Two.

An M2 Pro Mini should be able to drive one more display than the M2 Mini (for a total of three), the same as the M1 Pro MBP. Thus if Apple produces such a device, I think it would need one more TB port than the M2 Mini.

The reliance on this guy's ever changing "predictions" is something else.

Predictions are based upon the information available at that time. Apple changes its plans (Covid lockdowns, supply or engineering issues, etc.) the prediction hopefully changes as well. Given all that uncertainty an 86% accuracy rate is remarkable.

To be fair to Gurman, he has been very accurate and rarely misses.

I agree. Also, I never buy the freshly redesigned Apple stuff. That’s how you get the butterfly keyboard that breaks with breadcrumbs, the LCD flex that breaks with regular usage and stuff like that.

That’s precisely why I am excited for this announcement. Because I plan on buying one to finally upgrade my Mid 2012 cMBP (That still works amazingly well for its age). I wanted to wait one generation in case there where any big issues found.

Since we’re a society obsessed with convenience and mobility that would be fact. Still convenience and mobility doesn’t solve everyone’s computer needs. ;)

Hoping to hear more from Ross Young and Apple about a better display. I want some 27-32”, 5-8k with 120Hz pro motion plz. Gimme some DisplayPort 2.1 over Thunderbolt 4 + DSC or whatever it takes to make it happen.

Wonder when the new Mac Pro will actually be available for purchase. Also it will be very nice if Apple launches a 27" iMac.

I would imagine Spring, or at least Before WWDC?

I would bet the rumoured 27" miniLED ~$3000 display will become available at the same time? :)

I wonder if any future iMac (big? Pro? something?) will be shipped sometime AFTER the Mac Pro???

It makes sense for there to be rumours around a M2 Mac Mini and even a M2 Pro Mac Mini to replace the last Intel MM…

It makes sense that there are rumours around the 14” and 16” MBP getting the spec bump to M2 Pro and M2 Max…

What doesn’t make sense is how there are no rumours about the 24” M2 iMac… it hasn’t been updated since April 2021… so very much overdue the M2 spec bump at least…

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we saw all three happen in Novemeber.

I’m way more interested in some more credible Mac Pro rumours rather than the standard M2 Extreme that’s doing the rounds…

For instance there seems to be a general consensus that the MP will be released next year in M2 Ultra and M2 Extreme versions… There also seems to be reasonable speculation that the Mac Studio will get the M2 Max and M2 Ultra upgrade next year, near to it‘s 12 month anniversary… some folks think these two things would happen at the same time… but that is not very Apple, these feel like two seperate events so that one doesn’t detract from the other…

It sure would be nice to know what we can expect the silicon MP to deliver…

As far back as April, the iMac was rumored to have M3 instead of M2….

That‘s not to say an M2 version isn’t possible, just that it hasn’t been rumored.

As far back as April, the iMac was destined to have M3 instead of M2….

The rumours have been consistent, but that does not remotely answer WHY Apple might leave it rot on the vine for a generation.

The answer is probably: the iMac is low volume and Apple is amortizing that single iMac model over a longer period of time to improve margins... but I don't particularly CARE!

People always blamed Intel for Apple not shipping new hardware, but the reality is APPLE is the primary reason Apple leaves hardware and software rotting on the vine.

I’m starting to get old enough that if I just blink my eyes it will already be a year later and I can buy an M3 Ultra MacBook Studio.

I mean, an Ultra in a new product called MacBook Studio might sound crazy, but on TSMC 3nm there just might be enough TDP to do it. Might have to make it slightly thicker for the heat sink? Might be limited to just a single large size. Maybe they’ll throw a Mini LED or OLED display in it too, maybe make it 17” in nearly the same sized body as the 16.2” by using really tiny bezels. Turn the notch into Dynamic Island with Face ID. I can only dream!

I'm sure the Mac mini will have a M2 chipset...I'm ready to toss my Mac mini (3.6 i3) pure hot garbage now. These M chipsets seem to be holding up!
Even if the M1 seems a bit old now, its more then fast enough for most casual users. That old test of launching 20 application at once use to bring an intel laptop/desktop to its knees, along came the M1, no problem with that. M2 Mac mini would suffice people that just want something inexpensive but a bit better.

It’s amazing how neglected the iMac is…
Now that I've thought about it a little longer, this statement becomes even more ridiculous. There is not a single screw untouched in the 24" iMac. Sure, they've changed the cpu down to the instruction set and system architecture. No big deal, really! They also changed the size and placement of the largest ever Apple logo. VW Hippie bus style. The bezels are not only thinner, but controversially white. For the first time ever an iMac has an external power brick. Unbelievable! And it comes with a colorful braided data-transferring power cable with a magnetic plug. Overkill. One might think, at least the standardized USB-C ports must've stayed the same, but no. Now they are color matched to the iMac. That's right the iMac now comes in seven colors. Heck, six of them are even dual-colored. Including the Apple stickers. Everybody cries about the large-screen iMac. But wait, offering only one-screen-size-fits-all is another dramatic marketing shift. I could identify none but one always neglected aspect of the iMac and that's its forever unchanged starting price of $1,299. But then again, with inflation those numbers don't mean anything anymore.

I really don't understand all that people whining about underwhelming updates. What do they expect? Radically new hardware and software every other year? I'm on a mid 2015 MBP that won't run Ventura and will soon be obsolete, so the upcoming M2 MBP is the device for me to look at. Hence, I'm happy it's coming, however incremental de update might be compared to the M1 MBP. For me it will be a huge leap forward.
