I really don’t understand Apple’s obsession with AR headset.
even VR headset (for gaming) is a niche product already on decline, and Google glass were a total failure.

No matter what any of you may think about whether this product would be a dead-on-arrival thing or as revolutionary as the iPhone, there’s one thing that’s actually certain for all of us.

None of us don’t really know the true picture of what Apple has in store for us; they’re just very secretive (The rumored price is still just a prediction/rumor, not final). Whether Apple actually has a trick up their sleeve or not, wait until what happens at WWDC, and we’ll determine what happens next from there.

I don’t understand Apple‘s obsession with cell phones.
The Motorola rocker, also known as the iTunes phone, was a total and complete disaster and touchscreens are just a fad.
Also, no one, not even Apple, is topping those three dogs, Motorola, RIM and Nokia.
20 years from now, we’ll be laughing that Apple even tried from our 2027 BlackBerry G7 156X’s with their even smaller physical qwertykeyboards.

Never said it will be a flop product but the market is niche and the starting price will be overly expensive. All the products you mentioned the prices were alot lowered and affordable.
iPad was rumored to debut with price tag of 1000-1500$$. Every one was shocked when Steve introduced the iPad starting at 500. No on knows what the price of Apple AR is going to be, let alone talk about affordability or DOA.

Like the cred you have when you pretended to be an architect and then got owned and then said you were an industrial engineer and then got owned again.

Yesterday, in response to your assertion above, I posted:

"What?

Where did I claim to be an architect? Or an industrial engineer?

Be specific."

A day later you have yet to back up your assertion. Will you be retracting it? Or should I seek help from a moderator?

You are conflating different things, because the Mac is a well-established platform with over 40 years of history and hundreds of millions of units sold.

Reality has 0 years of history and 0 units sold.

Expecting developers to pay for a completely unproven SDK in a field that's known for very low sales numbers (PS VR2 pulled in just 300,000 units despite being a fantastic product) is just silly.
Agree with you - to the extent that Apple will be asking developers to pay for a VR kit only. But it has been clear for quite a while that Apple's true aim is AR, not VR. It is AR that Tim Cook himself thinks will be as big or bigger than the iPhone. Alas, the tech/miniaturization is still not there yet for a stylish pair of AR glasses (unless the rumors are wrong and Apple comes out with AR glasses that let the iPhone do the heavy lifting CPU wise). So even with ARKit available for a couple years already, developers don't really have anything physical to try their AR ideas on. If Apple lets its developers buy a headset that lets them try out their AR ideas as well as the less important VR ones, then I think they will buy it in droves.

Again, the motivation for developers would be to get started on AR applications, not VR ones.

Saw this today

Reported by CNBC, the new AR survey by Piper Sandler got feedback from 5,600 teens. 29% of the teens identified as already owning VR hardware but just 4% of them said they use it daily. And only 14% of them said they use their VR device weekly.

Probably referring to me where they think I 'got owned'........ kids thinking they know it all when in fact it is not that hard to transfer design skills across from architecture, product, graphic design etc.
Doing that actually gives additional insight into the possibilities of AR and what it can achieve. But if people want to be negative and think they 'win' on macrumors then that's nice for them.

I prefer to win in real life and AR ;)

Tim has had his reality dial turned way up if he thinks anybody will buy this. He's gone full distortion field.

lol completely irrelevant comparison..
comparing change from bulky traditional cell phones to a pocketable, multi functional device that has 10s of -must have- uses for -every- human ..to a headset that will cost multiple 1000 dollars, needs to be worn over eyes/head so it can display some information and graphics..
how many people (beside tech geeks) even want something like that? regardless of price?

Latest posting from Gurman: Apple's rumored 15" MacBook Air will not be a physical device, but rather a virtual laptop accessible through the AR/VR headset.

I have used an Oculus, didn't find it that impressive. Let me know when Apple invents the holodeck.

VR seems fun sometimes, AR still an unknown, but conceptually very interesting.

So I’m looking forward to see what Apple’s product in this space is going to offer.

iPad I imported the original model from the US (it wasn’t initially available in Australia), I bought the first Apple Watch (despite its serious shortcomings), because they both appeared to be the start of something great. But right now I’m not expecting I’ll buy this new product, but let’s see! If I can imagine some cool use case I want to use it for I may change my mind!

The most embarrassing thing for this year’s WWDC is how Metal 3 was announced a year before and only ONE SINGLE GAME was released since last year with Metal 3 support… a single game. One. 1!

Can’t wait to see what new techs nobody will use at this year’s WWDC. I’m going to guess the Apple XR or whatever they’ll call it. They’ll push it like crazy like the Apple Watch to justify its existence.

While the game was announced earlier. Ventura dev preview was given to devs 10 months ago at WWDC 2022. The first public releases was 13.0 was Oct 24th,2022. Cadcam Resident Evil was played Oct 28th.

So it's been 5 months only for anyone that wanted to try it out. See #499 whats coming
