I just hope it's around the same price point as the SS model and still looks classy and not specifically sporty. I've always bought the SS model just for the durability, and would buy this if it were priced right.

Forgive me.. but all we got is that it’s a little bigger, not much of a design change and potentially more battery. And mentions feature expected at the end of the decade?

Then the article ends with a comment "the upcoming Apple Watch release is shaping up to be one of the company's more exciting product launches this year."

Did I miss something?
Wanted to write the same. It says a lot about the current Tim Cook Apple.

My S6 is aging fine, but not sure the battery will be good for another year. But buying essentially the same “watch” again, 2 years later, is not attractive.
I feel like this has to be said in every single thread about a new Apple product, but…
When Apple releases a new product, it’s usually not aimed at the customers of the direct predecessor.
If you have a series 6 or seven, there’s no reason for you to upgrade to a series 8.
If you have an iPhone 13, you’re not gonna be getting much by upgrading from an iPhone 14.
If you have an M1 MacBook Air, the M2 MacBook Air probably isn’t that interesting to you.
And the list goes on.
With How small year over year upgrades, not just from Apple, but from all tech companies of phones, tablets, watches, and computers are currently and are going to be, especially in the future, There’s almost no reason to even think about upgrading annually.
Think of these devices as becoming more like appliances, like a fridge or a microwave.
New refrigerators and new microwaves come out every single year.
Not many people are upgrading their refrigerators or their microwaves on a yearly basis.
Phones, tablets, watches, and computers are headed in that direction. That’s just what’s happening.
Think the upgrades Every single year are getting boring and disappointing? it’s just getting started.
Soon we might go three years with the same CPU, six years with the same design.
The upgrades are just gonna continue getting smaller and smaller

Slightly bigger means blowing away prior generation watch bands?

The current 45mm S7 Titanium with extended 3 year warranty and sales tax in Arizona is $1,088 vs $633 for the 45mm aluminum with two year warranty and Arizona sales tax.

I would expect the new improved larger model with the same guts as the smaller aluminum model watches to crowd $1,400 out the door.

That is a pretty big slug of cash to be an annual purchase. The Apple Watches do not have a long lifetime as compared to my Rolex with two time zones capability I still have from 1967 and still works (cost about $345 back then and valued over $3,500 now).

The Apple Watch's value will only depreciate, not appreciate like a conventional time piece. And 4G LTE will be obsolete in less than five years so the Cellular capability will vaporize on even next year's models.

I guess the new large model will be a status symbol like a mega yacht saying the wearer has money to burn.....
LTE isn’t going anywhere for a long, long time. There’s still people on 3G, despite the carriers best efforts. And that’s not even talking about the scarcity of 5G anywhere but large population centers. An LTE watch will connect for at least a decade, probably two.

This is a typical Apple Marketing 101 talk. Every year a new product release shapes up the be one of the company’s more exciting product launches. Nothing new here 😔

The only real improvement I want is better glass for the screen. Sapphire glass is pretty much standard even on very moderately priced watches, but the Apple Watch still uses a much softer glass which scratches easily. Not really ideal for something you wear on your wrist.

If truly for extreme sports and such, I think the rumored satellite communication feature would be the big, new selling point. To be able to send out an SOS with GPS location via text, or to the same free service that Personal Locator Beacons use, would be the only thing that could get me to drop that kind of money on a smart watch.

Titanium body with sapphire glass, multi-day battery life, slightly larger screen (for easier viewing while racing), Garmin-like running metrics with all the current AW smartwatch and connectivity features for the price of a Garmin Epix sounds like a win to me 👍

I understand that “pro” simply means the more expensive or higher-end model in Apple terms, but I thought that’s what the “edition” was?

I hope they find a better term. A “Pro” Apple Watch/user outside of a rugged outdoor watch doesn’t seem sensible to me.
Going by the M1 naming convention “Pro” means second from the bottom.

Seems pretty meh. Then again Gurman loves to hype up any and everything apple does.

I’d love to see the sapphire glass not sit flush with the edge of the casing (like the current Apple watches).

It should sit slightly below the titanium casing to prevent accidental bumps.

If it's $1,000 plus, 'I got this S8 watch, and your grandfather...'

As I have said here numerous times, flat sides (and square corners) will never happen on the Apple Watch for OBVIOUS reasons to anyone who has ever owned a watch of any kind.

Damn thing wouldn’t go two hours without a ding. The idiotic rumors about it are just plain weird.
EXACTLY this, and why I'd never buy such a device. It would get chipped and nicked in the space of an hour, especially an aluminium model

I’d add a single button for start and stop too. :)

This sucks if you have to pay for this "Pro" chassis to get a larger display. I've always bought the Sport aluminum watches and they've always held up well for me I don't need to overpay.

I've stuck with my Series 5, cuz it still works fine and the changes havent wowed me in S6/S7.

I hope even if there is a Pro, that the "regular" ones still get some sort of upgrade.

No, don't think you did. It's saying that everything Apple releases this year is going to be as exciting as watching paint dry.
