I like the rounded edges shape as it is now, do not think the flat design would be nice to the wrist. Also why the hard-on for a round design. This is a digital gadget, round won’t work and you lose real estate. For this Pro, $999 lackluster.
My thought exactly. I want to squeeze in all the info that I can. I wish that the middle complication has to be so big. I would like to be able to have 3 smaller ones in the center.

thank god, flat sides on a watch would make it look like some geeky gadget, it's already hard enough to sell it as a stylish accessory as it is

Slightly bigger means blowing away prior generation watch bands?

The current 45mm S7 Titanium with extended 3 year warranty and sales tax in Arizona is $1,088 vs $633 for the 45mm aluminum with two year warranty and Arizona sales tax.

I would expect the new improved larger model with the same guts as the smaller aluminum model watches to crowd $1,400 out the door.

That is a pretty big slug of cash to be an annual purchase. The Apple Watches do not have a long lifetime as compared to my Rolex with two time zones capability I still have from 1967 and still works (cost about $345 back then and valued over $3,500 now).

The Apple Watch's value will only depreciate, not appreciate like a conventional time piece. And 4G LTE will be obsolete in less than five years so the Cellular capability will vaporize on even next year's models.

I guess the new large model will be a status symbol like a mega yacht saying the wearer has money to burn.....

Can we please stop pretending that a mechanical watch is anything but a fancy bracelet? And stop calling them time pieces, because they're less accurate than my $20 1986 Timex. The 'value' of a Rolex has nothing to do with its accuracy or usefulness as a watch.

1967 was almost the last year a mechanical watch had any real value whatsoever, once the Astron came out in 1969 it was hopelessly obsolete.

You're not wrong about the Apple watch being a disposable purchase, and I don't own one. But comparing it to a Rolex is like comparing a 787 Dreamliner to a horse and buggy.

What IS expected for the S8 “regular”this year?.
Same CPU?, same screen?, thinner maybe?.
My S6 is aging fine, but not sure the battery will be good for another year. But buying essentially the same “watch” again, 2 years later, is not attractive.
But I will renew my 13Pro for a “revolutionary camera” only… just because of my upgrade plan.
S6 rebranded
I like to update my watch every year. That is much easier to do with the regular model versus getting the SS model. I have a minimalist case for my series 7 that I wear and it has kept my watch looking great these past 10 months.
Exactly. These electronics age way faster than mechanical ones. Imho it is a waste of money to buy the more expensive one if you plan upgrading short term. The Apple Gold Edition buyers were just idiots buying it.

Can’t wait until all the competitors copy Apple’s flat design just like they do now.

Wow! That’s over 48mm and what I will be looking for in the S9. I hope it doesn’t go the way of the Dodo like the Mini looks to be going.

I wear a Series 4. Given the lack of significant chip or display upgrades since then I'll just continue with it and enjoy the software upgrades. Apple need to do something very eye-opening for me to take my old friend off my wrist.

If you want a cheap-looking, reflective face that is more prone to damage, then yeah. Otherwise, a domed crystal is always better.
except it’s neither domed nor a crystal in the cheaper iterations.

weird you say cheap though. none of my rolexes have domed crystals.

I want 4 things...

I want longer battery life.
Bring back the more neutral colors (sliver and black/space gray).
The features to just work better.
and LONGER BATTERY LIFE.

Also I wish Apple would get on board with being more ECO friendly with the Watch. Sell versions without bands at a slight discount (BYOWB). I’ve had 4 generations of AW now and have more than a dozen bands already. It would save them on packaging/shipping/waste costs and could improve availability.

I agree on all counts.

You’re absolutely right, you can’t compare a Rolex to an Apple Watch.
My 1986 Submariner, which cost me $721 at the PX, has survived 2 wars, countless dives, HALO jumps and still runs and looks brand new.
I’d be afraid to subject my AW7 to anything tougher than 18 holes at the country club..

If the pro sports model as rumored before is a titanium case, then I'm out. I always buy the cheapest AW (The Nike version). It serves me well but I would not mind a more rugged and larger option I rather not spend the extra money because usually I upgrade every 3 to 4 years and feel like wasting money investing too much on a "disposable" watch.

Coming from mechanical watches in the past (Omega Seamaster) this is where I don't mind spending the money on a device I can pass to my kids etc and will last almost forever if you take care of it.

I love Apple products, but this does go to show how utterly ridiculous the mindset behind their purchases have become for many ppl. I can't imagine 99% of the population would ever consider an 'annual purchase' of a regular watch at even a 'regular' price of $50-100, let alone a watch that (as you point out) will only dwindle in value and functionality over time costing from $500 to $1000+

As I have said here numerous times, flat sides (and square corners) will never happen on the Apple Watch for OBVIOUS reasons to anyone who has ever owned a watch of any kind.

Damn thing wouldn’t go two hours without a ding. The idiotic rumors about it are just plain weird.
Most Apple rumors seem to be “Apple did this in the past on one product so I predict they are doing this again in the near future on this other product”.

The rumor mill made similar claims when everything had curved edges, so naturally they just copy/pasted when the watch is expected to get a redesign whether it makes sense or not.

They better do away with the Edition models if they adopt a Pro model. If I have to pay $1200 for the Pro Edition model I’m going to be annoyed. I already have a titanium chassis on this Edition I have. Please don’t make this any more convoluted than it needs to be.
Prepare to eat that 1200 in here it will cost that much. No way it will be less than 1000.

7% larger in area is 1-2 mms. Dont have time to crunch numbers but that is not a big difference in size. Is it getting a lot thicker?

I see others crunched the numbers and thankfully my intuition was close.

The upcoming high-end variant of the Apple Watch Series 8 will feature the device's first redesign in years and a new titanium casing, but will not feature the long-rumored squared-off look, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

apple-watch-series-7-mystery.png

In the latest edition of his "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said that this year's high-end Apple Watch model will be "a good bit bigger" than the current Apple Watch models, so much so that "it might only appeal to a subset of customers." The device is expected to feature a display that is seven percent larger.

Gurman reaffirmed rumors that the high-end Apple Watch will feature the first new design since the launch of the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018. It will apparently not be circular, and contrary to reports of a squared-off design, "it also won't have those rumored flat sides." Instead, Gurman described the new design as being "an evolution of the current rectangular shape."

He added that it will have a casing made of "a more durable formulation of titanium to make it extra rugged." The device is also expected to feature longer battery life that could last multiple days on a single charge via a new Low Power Mode, according to Gurman.

The only new health feature expected for the Apple Watch Series 8 is still a body-temperature sensor, with blood-pressure monitoring not expected to arrive until 2025, and blood-glucose monitoring not set to be ready until "nearer to the end of the decade."

Gurman added that "the upcoming Apple Watch release is shaping up to be one of the company's more exciting product launches this year."

Good. A watch is a watch with nice design. I don’t need a mini iPhone or iPad in my wrist with square edges. People what this so bad because it’s different.

Coming from a Series 5, this will be a huge upgrade. I hope they don’t change the sizes of the Stainless ones. They’re perfect at 40mm.
