Larger is definitely welcome. It's pretty small compared to a lot of watches on the market, especially for men.

Apple Watch at it’s lowest price point is a premium watch. The new, if any, variants need to be pushed to all its line.

Forgive me.. but all we got is that it’s a little bigger, not much of a design change and potentially more battery. And mentions feature expected at the end of the decade?

Then the article ends with a comment "the upcoming Apple Watch release is shaping up to be one of the company's more exciting product launches this year."

Did I miss something?
I agree with the dissonance but I think Gurman got got by Apple (ie made a deal). His leaks used to be on point and now they're just wishy washy and boring.

With the A16 chip being limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and a new Apple Watch design limited to a $1000 model, Apple sure is segmenting features hard. I guess everyone is trying to cope with this new economy!

Oh Please. Not a “Pro” watch. 🤦‍♂️ Is that really necessary? Must Apple “Pro” everything? A Pro laptop. Okay. A Pro Phone was pushing it. But a Pro watch? Come on. This is getting silly. I thought it was suppose to be a more “rugged” apple watch. What happened to that rumor?
I still think it’s more about limiting upgrades to the regular $399 AW from now on and then putting most of them in the much pricier AW Pro.

AW will then follow the same “trickle down” upgrade strategy that we see on iPhone, with the standard AW getting a few upgrades and less premium materials, and the AW Pro getting many upgrades and premium materials and aesthetics (probably exclusive Watch faces too).

I’m expecting AW Pro to start in the $499-$999 range.

the rumours all seem rather odd.

Are we getting a “pro” model or a more rugged model?

I don’t get why those who want a more rugged model for wear during sports or work would want to be paying more or wanting a bigger screen.

To me pro means either fancier materials for those wearing it to an office or party or extra features.
Look, Apple are doing their best, ok?! All they have to work with is a bunch of vague qualifiers like Pro, Max, Edition… and they have to use them really carefully to convince people to spend more money than they otherwise would. The very future of the company depends upon it.

Well, this news is rather embarrassing.
What I expect the most from the Apple Watch Series 8 would be a "flat" design, so that it matches what we can find today on Apple's devices (MacBook Pro, iPad Pro...). Something more brut, more industrial.

Maybe I should consider to go for the Series 7, finally?

…The Apple Watches do not have a long lifetime as compared to my Rolex with two time zones capability I still have from 1967 and still works (cost about $345 back then and valued over $3,500 now).

I guess the new large model will be a status symbol like a mega yacht saying the wearer has money to burn.....

I wonder how long till we see a true redesign rather than just a bigger screen or edges being flattened? I only upgrade when the device gets slow, nothing groundbreaking compelling an upgrade.

There are several reasons why we'll never see a more squared off or "flat" AW, or even a completely circular one (most of them already available for purchase):

Any AW design that could be mistaken for a competitor's model is a major loss for Apple.

You're waiting in vain if you think AW will ever deviate drastically from the original design:

I think the curved display watch has a viewing angle from the sides so they are making it, but I like the flat display!

No hope for the gorgeous ceramic watches. One can dream. Apple really messed up with that ceramic line up and not having their own Colorware AirPods.

If it has blood glucose reader, I'll upgrade from my S7 immediately, even if it's $1k. 7% bigger screen and a different material for the case? Meh. At the end of the day, you have a screen, a crown, and a button. I don't see how much you can redesign it, other than maybe going round, which I cannot see happening.

I could see the design being something akin to the design of the new MacBooks.
Flat for the screen and curved on the back for better comfort.

We already had some leaks saying that there will be a flat display, but now this one says there won’t be flat sides. This seems like a good compromise.

Hey! Glad I got my S6 for $399 then! The last great truly affordable flagship Apple Watch with professional looking colors (i.e. space grey and silver).

👎

umm, I'm quite certain the S8 will start at $399 also... with new features.
