No LTE. No Siri. No text messaging. No email replies. Poor music implementation. Inferior audio quality. Limited app integration (e.g., airline QR codes). Limited availability of Garmin Pay vs Apple Pay. No unlocking Macs. No unlocking phones when wearing masks.

Don't get me wrong, the Epix is a great sports watch (and better looking that an AW IMHO). And I rely on Garmin to train for and run multiple marathons each year. But the AW smartwatch capabilities are extensive, which is why so many runners I know continue to wear both.
For sure, the Apple Watch is effectively a miniature iPhone, but I’ve not yet been in situations where I’ve missed this connectivity.

The Epix does offer notifications when your phone is near, which I do like getting while at work, but I’m not using Garmin Pay or on-watch music, as I prefer to run listening to my own self doubting inner voice.

Wouldn’t steel be the most “rugged” choice? I thought titanium was like super-aluminium - really, really high strength to weight ratio, but still not as strong as steel for the same volume (but lighter)?

For the same thickness and volume titanium is equal in strength to steel but 45% lighter.

Forgive me.. but all we got is that it’s a little bigger, not much of a design change and potentially more battery. And mentions feature expected at the end of the decade?

Then the article ends with a comment "the upcoming Apple Watch release is shaping up to be one of the company's more exciting product launches this year."

Did I miss something?

They made it LARGER! The innovation is what you missed! /s

Yeah, I wear my watch 23.5/7. Changing from soft to sharp edges would be Ive-level design stupidity.

the vast majority of famous men's watches, including almost all from Rolex, Omega and more have mostly "flat" sides. they have a hint of a taper at the very bottom edge and I've never felt one iota of difference wearing them from any other watch including my Apple Watches. If Apple were to do a "flat" side you can see from the claimed render they account for a smooth transition at the bottom of the edge, I'm certain you wouldn't feel it. The well rounded edges of the Apple Watch are actually fairly unusual.

I went with Epix, two weeks of battery life. Apple is not able to give us even two days. SMH

I still have AW6 SS that's collecting dust right now.

Apple Watch LTE is limited to dozen countries. Siri sucks. Text messaging/email replies suck on AW. Poor music integration? Spotify is working just fine. Inferior audio quality? Please expand. Garmin Pay exists and it's available even in my ****** country unlike AW LTE. Airline QR codes, every airline is still printing boarding passes and you for sure have your phone with you when traveling. Unlocking Macs. We have fingerprint reader for unlocking. Masks are hopefully thing of the past.

Charging AW every single day or every second day sucks. Apple cannot solve that battery riddle. Epix is more than reputable alternative.

Sounds like you probably shouldn’t buy another Apple Watch!

Hey! Glad I got my S6 for $399 then! The last great truly affordable flagship Apple Watch with professional looking colors (i.e. space grey and silver).

Currently, I'm getting quite tired of primitive Garmin software and opaque product support, and an Apple bona-fide sports watch with even half the battery life would severely tempt me when I replace my Android phone later this year.

I want a serious, down-to-earth alternative with the Apple software and integration.

However, the status symbol/luxury fluff of the kind purported here is just ridiculous, as is the proposed conspicuous consumption price tag. Things like the use of titanium in a limited life item and the like when far better sports watches function quite relaibly with other, more mundane materials means I'll probably avoid Apple's watches as Real Housewives of Wherever fashion accessories. Another Ive bauble.

I don’t care about the design. A blood pressure and blood glucose monitor would be the true game changer and will save millions of lifes.
And yet, Apple is just as much, if not more, concerned with 'fashion accessory' status than actual technical excellence, it seems.

I want the Apple OS and integration in a work-a-day package, with a multi-day battery so all those health sensors can be worn for day-in/day-out health tracking and data accumulation.

If Apple wants to call it "The Really-Ugly, Non-Creatives' Edition" and even brand it as 'a watch for the grubby proles', that's OK with me, too.

I don't need a Ferrari when a Dino actually fills my real-life, technical needs.

I enjoy reading a post by someone who knows who they are. Thank YOU rubaxter! Status symbol/luxury stuff is not for you. I applaud your candor! I encourage those of you who disdain the elitism of Apple’s products to leave the platform. It’s the reverse of “gentrification” when the lower socio-economic classes huddle together and pollute the neighborhood as it were. Cheap “Everyman” egalitarian electronic devices are available everywhere. Marx and Engels and Mao editions abound in China! And Jonny Ive doesn’t matter any more. We who prefer to show off our affluence and superior lifestyles are just fine with Apple products!

While I agree flat sides will suck, I do think that it's sad apple watch has essentially not changed in look for 7 years except for size. is that how boring watches are?

You guys can do whatever you want, but for me personally, After this AW fails me I’m not gonna buy another. I’m tired with Apple Watches. I want a watch that can last longer on its battery, say around 2 to 4 years of battery life. I have to plug everything in (iPhone, tablet, and AW) as it is every day. It’s just getting ridiculous. 🤪

The Apple Watch's value will only depreciate, not appreciate like a conventional time piece. And 4G LTE will be obsolete in less than five years so the Cellular capability will vaporize on even next year's models.

I guess the new large model will be a status symbol like a mega yacht saying the wearer has money to burn.....
Well, yeah, I mean as much as I’m not a fan of Apple’s “luxury” brand exclusionary pricing/marketing: Apple was kind of steering into “everybody got this” territory before the X came out. It used to be that iPhone was a status symbol, and Mac to some extent…

Now, the baseline iPhone and soon to be aluminum watches are “everyone’s got ‘em”, and Apple needs something to give people good feelings for spending bookoos of monies. The iPhone Pro was the new bar back when the X came out at $999, and Samsung and others followed soon after. Now, it’ll be the “Pro” watch.

It’s been maybe since the X that I’ve been breaking my neck to peep a cellphone 😂

So maybe this Pro Watch will be the next big thing 🤷‍♂️ Better go stretch my neck… do some yoga poses… or something.

Oh Please. Not a “Pro” watch. 🤦‍♂️ Is that really necessary? Must Apple “Pro” everything? A Pro laptop. Okay. A Pro Phone was pushing it. But a Pro watch? Come on. This is getting silly. I thought it was suppose to be a more “rugged” apple watch. What happened to that rumor?

Really? Without proof, your statement is complete willful absurdity.
In the horological circles is well known that regular Quartz watches (not the highly accurate Quartz watches) are about +-1 second accurate per day, while a mechanical watch, that has been certified as “chronometer” is only accurate -2+6 seconds (many are more accurate). So, yes, quartz are more accurate than mechanical in average.
The reasons and arguments over which is “better” are all over the internet. Personally I wear an Apple Watch on my right wrist, as a gadget and any of my mechanical/automatic watches (mostly leather or rubber straps, only 3 or 4 on a metal bracelet) on the left most days of the week.
There are even articles that evaluate the cost of precious metal in a watch ve it’s actual price and there value is not on the precious metal by itself.
